Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Maribor, then continue driving on the highway towards the border crossing Šentilj and further on the Austrian highway towards Graz. We leave the mentioned highway at the exit for the settlement Lipnica / Leibnitz. When we exit the highway at the roundabout, we continue in the direction of the settlement Lipnica / Leibnitz, and further we drive south of the village Gralla, which is today already some kind of peripheral part of Lipnica. Further, the road leads us past an industrial or trading zone, and at the roundabout by the Hofer store we continue "straight" on the second exit in the direction of the settlement Lonč / Deutschlandsberg. Further, we drive on the main road for some time, then after the village Graschach we turn right in the direction of the settlement Lonč / Deutschlandsberg. In the roundabout right next to the settlement Lonč / Deutschlandsberg, we continue "straight" in the direction of the alpine pass Weinebene. From here, the road starts to ascend more steeply, and we follow it for approximately 15 km, then turn left towards the settlement Glashütten. A short descent follows, and we arrive at the center of the village, where we park in the parking lot by the Church of the Name of Mary.
Route description:
From the starting point, we return along the road by which we arrived at the starting point to the first bend, then head onto the marked path in the direction of the hut Grünangerhütte and the summit Großer Speikkogel. Already after a few dozen steps of ascent, we reach a macadam road, which we cross, then continue past the beehives. A light descent follows and we return to the macadam road, then for some time continue directly alongside the road, later gradually moving away from it in a moderate descent. Lower down, we cross two streams over two successive small bridges, followed by a gentle traversing ascent to a cart track, which we follow briefly to the left, then quickly go right onto the marked path that continues along a fence, the latter above the pasture Mottl.
Some more light descent follows, lower down we also cross the stream Höllgraben, shortly after reaching the stream Schwarze Sulm, where there is a dilapidated and dangerous bridge, so we go right and begin to ascend along the stream upstream. Higher up, we return to the macadam road along which we walked at first, cross the stream over the bridge on it, and on the other side of the bridge go right and continue the ascent on a poorer and fairly steep macadam road. Later, we bypass a masonry structure on the right side, shortly after going left from the ever-worsening road onto the marked footpath, which temporarily ascends more steeply. When a few minutes higher we reach two successive roads, we merely cross the first, follow the second to the left and walk along it for some time. We leave the road at the spot where the markers lead us slightly right into the forest, where we immediately cross yet another road, and the path slowly turns leftward, quickly bringing us to the hut Grünangerhütte.
Past the hut, we continue right and continue the ascent on the marked footpath. After a few minutes of ascent through sparse forest, we arrive at a small junction, where we continue straight in the direction of the path over Steinmandl. A little further, we cross a pasture fence, behind it continuing a few minutes of ascent through the forest. When we leave the forest, we cross a forest road, immediately above the road the path forks.
Before crossing the pasture fence, we go right, where the marked path towards the summit Steinmandl continues (straight unmarked path to the nearby Loskogel). Some steep ascent along the edge of the forest follows, then the path levels out and transitions to the indistinct ridge of the summit Steinmandl, where an unmarked path joins us from the right, leading over the pasture Bärentalalm.
From here, a shorter moderate ascent follows and amid fine views we reach an interesting summit with small towers.
From the summit, a gentle descent follows, then we gradually begin to ascend along the fence, ahead of us seeing the summit Hühnerstütze. The path further leads past the branch-off for Zwergenstein, the path somewhat further turning left and beginning to cross the slopes of the summit Hühnerstütze to the left. A longer gentle ascent follows, and amid ever finer views we reach a junction on the indistinct saddle between the summits Seespitz and Hühnerstütze.
Here we continue straight or slightly left in the direction of the summit Großer Speikkogel (sharply right Hühnerstütze, pass Weinebene and also our starting point) and continue gently ascending, the path bringing us to the western slopes of the summit Seespitz.
For a few minutes we cross somewhat steeper slopes of the mentioned summit, then reach the saddle Seespitzsattel, where the path past the cross Schäferkreuz joins us from the right.
Again we continue in the direction of the highest summit of the range, and begin traversing ascent on the slopes of the summit Kleiner Speikkogel, after a few minutes of traversing ascent reaching the main ridge, which we reach at the saddle between the two highest summits of Golica.
Here we go right (left Kleiner Speikkogel) and in a few minutes ascend to the summit, on which a cross stands, somewhat further also two radars.
Starting point - Grünangerhütte 1:40, Grünangerhütte - Steinmandl 0:45, Steinmandl - Großer Speikkogel 1:30.
