Gaberlhaus - Altes Almhaus (on E6)

Access to starting point:
We leave the A2 highway Klagenfurt am Wörthersee - Graz at the Packsattel exit (from the direction of Graz we take the Mooskirchen exit), and then we follow the road towards the town of Köflach and further towards Judenburg and the Gaberl ski slope. We then ascend to a large parking lot by the Gaberl ski slope, which is on the left side of the road, while the Gaberlhaus cottage is situated on the right side.
Parking for up to 24 hours costs 3 EUR (October 2024).

Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue towards the south, and at the end of the parking lot, the path splits. We continue slightly to the right (slightly to the left along the road path Via Alpina), where we follow the blazes that lead us along a cart track running parallel to the macadam road. A few minutes ahead, we cross a poorer road that leads to holiday cottages and then continue along a gentle cart track. Later, the path descends slightly, and from the right, a path joins us that starts a little lower from the mountain pass Gaberl, on the western side.
We continue straight, and a little further, we briefly leave the forest, and a beautiful view opens up of the nearby Rappoldkogel. The path ahead returns to the forest and turns slightly more to the left, where we cross a wider macadam road leading towards the mountain hut Altes Almhaus.
On the other side of the road, we turn right, then ascend alongside the archery range, and leaving the marked path is prohibited. Higher up, the path levels out, leaves the forest, and brings us to the parking lot and the mountain hut Altes Almhaus.
