Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway, take the Vodice exit, then continue driving to the first signalized intersection in Vodice, where you continue left in the direction of Cerklje na Gorenjskem and Brnik. When you reach the main roundabout in Spodnji Brnik, continue driving in the direction of Cerklje and the Krvavec ski resort. At the end of the settlement Cerklje na Gorenjskem, leave the main road which continues towards Velesovo and Visoko and continue driving slightly right onto the road in the direction of the Krvavec ski resort. Park on the large well-maintained parking lot by the bottom station of the circular-cabin cable car on Krvavec, where you buy a ticket and take the aforementioned cable car to the upper station, which is located by the mountain hut Dom na Gospincu.
B) From the Jesenice - Ljubljana highway, take the Kranj - east exit, then continue driving towards Brnik, Komenda and Mengeš. Further on, you reach the village Grad, where signs for the settlement Ambrož pod Krvavcem direct you right onto a steep asphalt road (straight ahead to the bottom station of the circular-cabin cable car on Krvavec and Štefanja Gora). When the steepness on the steep road eases somewhat, you will reach an intersection, where you continue left in the direction of the settlement Ambrož pod Krvavcem (straight ahead to the settlements Ravne, Apno and Šenturška Gora). A little further, the road temporarily descends somewhat, then ascends through occasionally quite panoramic slopes. Higher up, you reach Ambrož pod Krvavcem, where you bypass the church of St. Ambrož and the tourist farm Pr Ambružarju on the left side. From the tourist farm onwards, the road enters the forest and ascends through it all the way to the mountain pasture Jezerca, where there is a large well-maintained parking lot. Here the road flattens and turns left; about 500 m further it brings you to an intersection, where you continue slightly left (right to Kriška planina). On the macadam road, you then drive a little further to the upper station of the circular-cabin cable car.
The road from the mountain pasture Jezerca to Dom na Gospincu is now closed to public traffic; this extends the path by approximately 30 minutes.

Route description:
At the upper station of the circular cabin cable car on Krvavec we will notice numerous mountain signposts. We head in the direction of the mountain hut Dom na Krvavcu and Marija Snežna on a poorly visible path that ascends almost straight up the grassy slope. The poorly visible path higher up leads across a pasture fence, behind which it becomes somewhat more traceable. The relatively steep path then brings us to the mountain hut Dom na Krvavcu, which we can already see from the upper cable car station (alternatively possible via a poorer macadam road to here).
From the hut, we continue in the direction of Zvoh along the road that takes us past the chapel and transmitters on Krvavec to the Razor saddle (saddle between the Krvavec peak and Veliki Zvoh), where there is a road junction. We continue straight along the ridge (right to Krvavec peak 5 minutes) to the next junction, where signs for Dolga njiva direct us left (straight to Veliki Zvoh). The path to Dolga njiva then crosses a ski slope and brings us to a slope that is partly overgrown with dwarf pines. The traversing path after some time leaves the Krvavec ski resort area through a wire fence. Further on, the path begins to descend first through dwarf pines, then traverses across some smaller and partly overgrown screes. The path then stops descending and the path from Kokra (via Lojtra) joins us from the left. A few more steps of walking follow and the path brings us to the old shepherd's hut on the mountain pasture Dolga njiva.
From the mentioned hut, we continue along the left side of the pasture on a poorly visible trail that after 5 minutes of further walking brings us to the other, renovated hut. Again, we keep slightly left and the still poorly visible path soon brings us into a belt of dwarf pines, where it becomes more pronounced. This is followed by traversing a short steep scree slope, then a gentle path brings us in a few minutes of pleasant walking across meadows overgrown with dwarf pines to the junction at Škrbina.
Here we continue left in the direction of Kalški greben and Cojzova koča along the path that after just a few more steps brings us to the next junction. We continue slightly left (right to Kalška gora and Cojzova koča) along the path that begins to ascend gently on increasingly panoramic slopes. The pleasant path, which can be very hot in the middle of the day, first leads near a smaller ridge, then gradually turns somewhat more to the left and brings us from the dwarf pines onto wonderful meadows where we will find various types of flowers. The wide slope along which we walk then narrows, and the meadows are gradually replaced by rocks. Higher up, the path brings us to the panoramic main ridge, which we then follow to the summit, which is often full of sheep droppings.

Discussion about the trip Dom na Gospincu - Kalški greben (via Dolga Njiva)

Brane V.-Entering this morning for yesterday's hike. I started already at Kriška planina, where there is a lot of parking under the former hotel. It is true that the road from the sewage treatment plant is bad. Then above the pastures towards the hut on Krvavec and under Zvoh to planina Dolge njive. On this pasture there is the only free flowing water. Horses graze on the pasture-idyll. To Kalški greben is then a very easy hike. For the return I recommend via Koren, Jež ridge and Zvoh.

Yesterday - 23.07.2008 I repeated this tour again, which I did last year, just a bit later. It was very cold, below ten degrees and a nasty wind was blowing. On the way back, I was even caught by a cloud of ice pellets - an interesting weather phenomenon that then floated away like a cloud towards Kamniško sedlo. I returned via Vrh Korena and greben Ježa. Just to add that the cabinets with the logbook need to be rearranged both at the top of Kalški greben and at Vrh Korena. Apparently, the Kamniško planinsko društvo takes care of that.

I'm curious if anyone has been to Kalški greben recently? What's the path like? Thanks

Has anyone been on Kalški greben via Dolge njive from Gospinec in the last few days? How is the path and how is the vegetation at that altitude?

Today I finally went to Kalški greben from Gospinec via Dolge njive. I started at 7:30 AM, which proved smart due to the heat. Nothing special along the path, but on Dolge njive it's really idyllic with beautiful four horses migrating up and down the pasture and not afraid of visitors. Well, it seemed to me that today, midweek, I was the only hiker from Krvavec there and back to the summit and back I met only one older, experienced female hiker who nicely explained a few things, as it was my first time on this path. The views are really "crazy" on this route over the wider and distant surroundings and the Grintovci are like on the palm of your hand. A pleasant breeze blew all the time and the temperature was bearable. Only the dense scrub was really excessive, as I got quite scratched. The camera was working all the time up and down the path and I really wasn't in a hurry to return. My legs got a bit tired on the way back and I gave up the idea of going to Koren and back via Ježa and went the same way back to Krvavec. True, the heat tired me too and due to stops I took an extra hour, but it was still worth it all, I concluded with tasty jota and sausage at Gospinec. Yes, and as I went up with the first gondola, I went down with the last one. Despite not hiking much, today with the summit of Kalški greben I reached my highest elevation yet Next goal is Grintovec.

yogibear - you went a few days too early ... The brush to pl. Dolga njiva was cleared on 10.9. True, it grows incredibly fast!

Nice tour with wonderful views. Fortunately it was partly cloudy today, so there was no heat, which made the tour even more pleasant. The Planina Dolge njive feels like time has stopped there. Really something special.

Three weeks ago I was on Kalški greben. I really liked the trail. It's true that you're in the sun all the time, but with a hat on your head it's great. The horses on Dolga njiva are admirable. At the top, wonderful views, real food for the soul. Enter here

yesterday from planina Jezerca to planina Dolge njive, below the summit of Korena, via planina Koren to Kriška planina and back to Jezerca. Very nice tour, horses with foals and goats grazing, lots of flowers, weather as ordered and pure luck for me

Can someone please tell me what the winter approach to Kalški greben via Dolga njiva is like. Thanks and best regards

I haven't tried it yet, speaking only from hearsay. As far as I've heard: the start is awkward, as you have to walk on the ski slope for a while. On the way from the ski slope to Dolga njiva, crossing steep and avalanche-prone slopes awaits, requiring caution. From Dolga njiva onwards it shouldn't be problematic.

You have two options. One is via Krvavec, as described above, need to be careful a bit because it's avalanche-prone, this route is used by ski tourers, I myself go from Kokra valley via Lojtra, which is quite hard to pass in winter due to snowdrifts or ice. From Dolga njiva onwards no problems, provided there's enough snow, otherwise you fall into scree, as the winter route differs from the summer one.

What are the current conditions on this trail?

I was yesterday from the parking lot past the hut and further across Dolga njiva, the trail is well described except for the section of picture 49, there at two places over a length of approx. 50-100m the trail is very exposed, otherwise just a couple of meters but it is, tip for those who don't want to do those few steps: go around through the bushes and reach the same trail, otherwise nice but since there's no reward in between (hut-refreshment) you need to carry quite a lot of water to get there and back.

Yes, some parts of the path are exposed for some people. I've walked it several times, though the final goal was Kalški greben. I usually use this path for return towards Kriška planina. But the scree is really tough. Best!

Well, the sign is smart - I meant Kalški greben.

Parked at Planina Jezerca, where parking costs 5 eur. If you pay 10 eur, they raise the barrier and you can drive to the ski slope.

Path from ski slope to Dolga njiva is nice but view of abyss below probably not for everyone :-) Best is loop via Koren and back via Dolga njiva, so no need to descend scree. But more time-consuming.

A small reminder for peak baggers that the true summit of Kalški greben is not where the stamp box and large stone cairn are, but the highest point approx. 100 m further along the ridge.

So, if I did the approach from Kalška gora, I probably stepped on the highest point?
|
|
|
|
| Loerst6. 10. 2025 20:13:19 |
Yes, the path from Kalška gora goes over the highest point (or a meter, two aside). The alternative cairn is also placed there, but much smaller than the "pyramid" that formed on the official summit.
