Access to starting point:
We leave the Maribor-Graz-Salzburg motorway (A9) after a few shorter tunnels outside Graz and continue right on the fast road in the direction of Wien-Bruck/Muhr-Peggau.
We leave the fast road at the exit Peggau-Mitte and continue right in the direction of Deutschfeistritz.
After approximately 800 m we turn right again in the direction of Deutschfeistritz.
We arrive in the settlement Deutschfeistritz, we cross the railway track and at the next junction we turn left and then immediately right (sign Tennishalle).
We drive on a narrower street and at the next junction we turn right (sign Tennishalle). We arrive at the parking lot, where we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we go back to the main road in the direction from which we arrived.
At the main road we go right. After approximately 450 m we turn right onto a side road, which at the beginning runs parallel to the main road.
After approximately 1 km we arrive at a fork, where at the bridge over Königgrabenbach we spot the first marking.
We go left over the bridge and then immediately right through the yard of a business building.
After the yard the path takes us into the forest. There follow numerous forks and multiple crossings of the gravel road. At all forks we choose the marked path.
Towards the top of the hill Gamskogel the path becomes steeper and steeper. Near the summit a view of the valley opens up for us, after which we arrive at the top of Gamskogel.
From the top we descend and soon arrive at the natural attraction Bärenhöhle (bear's cave), where a table and benches delight us.
Then follows varied terrain, we walk along the ridge a little up and down, in between a view opens up to one side or the other of the ridge.
A steeper descent follows and some more ridge path. Then we leave the ridge and descend right down to the nearby forest road.
We continue straight along the road to the signpost for Schartnerkogel, where we leave the road and go right uphill on the path.
We reach a road, which we follow only to the point where it begins to descend to the other side of the hill.
At this point we leave the road, go right uphill and after 150 m arrive at the top.
