Crni Lug - Veliki Risnjak (Horvatova staza)

Access to starting point:
From the old road Zagreb - Reka / Rijeka we drive to Delnice, from where we continue driving towards the settlement Crni Lug. After approximately 12 km we arrive at the mentioned settlement, then follow the signs for the Administration of Risnjak National Park, where we park in a designated parking area.

Route description:
Before the administrative building of Risnjak National Park stands a tourist cottage, where we go left and follow the signs for Horvatova staza. On a well-marked and maintained footpath, we ascend to a crossing above Leska (928 m), reaching it via a fairly gentle path.
From the crossing, we continue in the direction of Horvatova staza and proceed along a slightly steeper path, which ascends through the forest. The path ahead continuously leads through the forest, and the path is well marked. At an altitude of 1107 m, we reach Vučja jama, a 145-meter-deep sinkhole. We continue ascending through the forest, and the path leads us over Smrekovec (1199 m).
A pleasant footpath eventually brings us to an old cottage and Moravčeva staza. Here, Horvatova staza ends, and a more demanding section of the path to Šloserov dom begins.
From the hut, we follow the signs for Veliki Risnjak, reaching it after approximately 20 minutes of ascent along a marked path.
