Access to starting point:
From the road Idrija - Tolmin we drive to Cerkno, where we park on one of the parking lots in the center or on the periphery of the town (best near the church of St. Anne).
Route description:
From the church of St. Anne in Cerkno, past the snack bar Okrepčevalnica pr'Jušku and store Merkur we walk to the street Pot v Strano, where the marked path begins, which leads towards Planina pri Cerknem, Škofje and Ermanovec. We go up the mentioned street, and after a few meters we continue on the right road, which begins to ascend more steeply. The road ends at the last house, and we continue the path on a cart track which ascends diagonally. The blazes then lead us left, and the path brings us to a panoramic grassy slope, from which a nice view opens up on Cerkno and surrounding hills.
We continue further on the cart track, and at the junctions we follow the signs of the mountain path number 5. The moderately steep path slowly distances itself from Cerkno, and with nice views on the surroundings it quickly brings us to an asphalt road, which we only cross. We continue the ascent in the same direction, and further we ascend on a worse cart track road, on which in a few minutes of additional walking we arrive in the village Planina pri Cerknem.
Through the village, in the middle of which stands the church of St. John the Baptist, we walk on a diagonally ascending cart track, which several times crosses the asphalt road, and in doing so we also walk through several courtyards. Above the lower part of the village we arrive at a macadam road, on which in a few minutes we walk to a smaller intersection. Here we continue left upwards, where we quickly arrive at the "last" house in the village.
Above the house we continue on an initially wide cart track, which quickly turns into forest, and we continue on it for a few minutes. A little higher we leave the cart track and continue left on the marked and wide mountain path, which begins to ascend more steeply. A little higher we arrive at a macadam road, where a path branches off to the left to Franja Hospital, and we continue straight and after a short steep ascent we step onto an asphalt road, on which we walk to the next marked junction.
At the junction we continue left (right Ermanovec and Lajše) and continue the path across a short grassy slope into the forest (we continue on the footpath and not on the nearby cart track). Further we ascend along the edge of the forest, and the path leads us right next to the extensive grassy slope of Škofje. Higher the path brings us out of the forest onto a panoramic grassy ridge, where it turns right and continues ascending along an increasingly panoramic ridge. There follows a gentle and very panoramic walk along the grassy ridge (nice view of Kojca and Porezen), then the path enters the forest and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to the summit of Škofje.

Along the route: Planina pri Cerknem (564m)

If you don't want to return the same way, at the viewpoint (picture 56) you can continue on the trodden but unmarked path. The path brings us back to the village Planina, a little below the "last" house in the village.
