Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we take the exit Lesce, and then continue driving towards Lake Bohinj. A little after Bohinjska Bistrica, we will get to a smaller crossroad, where a local road branches off to the right towards the village Brod. Here we turn right and drive another good 100 meters to the former parking lot, which is situated before the bridge over the river Sava Bohinjka.
Route description:
From the former parking lot, we first cross the bridge, then walk along the asphalt road to the village Brod. At the beginning of the village, the path from Bohinjska Bistrica joins us from the right, and we continue straight in the direction of Lake Bohinj and Rudnica. A little further ahead, a road branches off to the right towards Srednja vas and Češnjica, and we follow the road which continues through the village slightly to the left, where after a short gentle descent we arrive at the next crossroad.
At the mentioned crossroad, we notice a mountain signpost for Rudnica, which directs us right onto the road which, past the birth house of Dr. Janez Mencinger, brings us to a cart track that leads us into the forest. Through the forest we follow the occasional rare blazes, and the path, with some views of Spodnje Bohinjske gore, brings us to steeper slopes, where Ivanova pot joins us. From the junction we ascend transversely to the right for a short time, then the path turns sharply to the left, where we quickly arrive below the steep cliffs. Behind the cliffs the path slowly turns to the right and gradually becomes less steep. A little further ahead we cross a short panoramic clearing, and the path behind it brings us into the forest, where we arrive at a smaller, somewhat different chapel. Here the path turns slightly to the left and gently ascends to the ridge of Rudnica, where the path from Stara Fužina and the village Studor joins us from the left. We continue straight and along the edge of the forest quickly arrive at the top of Rudnica, from which a nice view opens up onto Zgornja bohinjska dolina and the surrounding mountains.

Discussion about the trip Brod - Rudnica

| Breda28. 12. 2011 |
I was at Rudnica yesterday. The weather was great and I met some hikers too. I started the trail from Bohinjska Bistrica (where the newly opened cycling path begins). There is a signpost for Rudnica (2h), after about 20 to 30 minutes of walking I reached a signpost showing left to Brod, right to Češnjica and Srednja vas. Since there was no sign for Rudnica, I turned to Brod and from there via Ivanova pot to Rudnica. On the way back I went to Srednja vas and then found the path to Bohinjska Bistrica. If you start from Bohinjska Bistrica, at the signpost turn right to Češnjica and Srednja vas, then after about 500 m left to Rudnica.

I highly recommend the short descent from the top to Razglednik, from where a very nice view of Lake Bohinj opens up. The signpost is just about 50m before the top.

Today on Rudnica, nice excursion on the last day of the old year, wonderful weather. The peace was somewhat disturbed by quite powerful bangs of pyrotechnic devices in the valley, and even higher in the mountains, which I find dangerous (triggering avalanches, it has happened before!) and above all unethical, even on the edge of TNP. Anyway, happy new year to all users and administrators of Hribi.net.

With PD Rašica camp visited Rudnica starting from our camp, went past Stara Fužina to Brod. From there quickly to the summit. There snack. After snack descended back to Sava Bohinjka and crossed barefoot. I can boast that while drying my feet I caught a cute, beautiful, small, young white-throated dipper , saved it from others who were afraid of it and put it away from the path. Then back to camp. Weather was great and there were many frogs sekulj, large dragonflies, green grasshoppers, butterflies, dragonflies,... In short lots of little animals .

I'm wondering which path is more used in winter (in snowy conditions): from Brod or from Stara Fužina.

The day before yesterday I was up there, though not quite to the top. Parking is possible at Brod, when you cross the bridge over the river in the village of Savica. I went exactly the opposite way as Majdag, up via Široka polica and down the direct gully. If it's raining or wet, the path is slippery, gravel slides under the shoes, now it was dry and there was good "grip". Nice views of Bohinj from different sides.
