Access to starting point:
a) Leave the Primorska motorway at the Kastelec exit and follow signs for Podgorje. Through the Podgorje border crossing we arrive in Croatia. Drive through Jelovice to Vodic, where we turn right. Then drive through Dane to the next intersection, where we turn right towards Brest. The road makes a serpentine and we drive along the slope of Žbevnica. When we arrive in Brest, park on the right side by the road at the bocce court.
b) Leave the Primorska motorway at the Črni Kal exit and continue on the old road towards the sea, but drive on it only to the next somewhat larger intersection, where we turn left towards the Sočerga border crossing. On the mentioned road drive past Kubed to Gračišče village, where at the intersection we turn left towards Rakitovca, Movraža and Smokvice. Drive through Smokvica and Movraž to the next intersection, where we turn right towards Rakitovec border crossing. We can also reach here via Zazid. When we arrive in Croatia we reach a wider road coming from Buzeta, continue left towards Brest. The winding road leads us to the village, where at the end we park left by the road at the bocce court.
Route description:
At the starting point, signs direct us onto a wide and initially gentle path into the forest. The path leads past a water intake and soon after a concrete structure, becoming steep. We traverse right and after a few minutes reach a technically undemanding short steep rocky section. The path is well routed over it, just take care not to slip. After the rocky section we arrive at the Žbevnica Mountain Hut. From the hut continue to the track, follow it left. Straight ahead steep path to Žbevnica. The track ascends steeply briefly, then flattens. After about 15 minutes of mostly level walking on the track, markers direct us right onto the meadow and later back into the forest. Straight on towards Kavčič and Stargat. The track narrows and begins steep ascent through mixed forest. Soon the forest thins. After about 15 minutes we finally exit the forest onto the grassy slopes of Muzari. The path ascends to the saddle between unnamed peak and Žbevnica, junction there, continue left towards Špičasti vrh. Right to Žbevnica 5 minutes. Ascend the ridge over unnamed peak, after it the path descends again. Marked path strictly along ridge where trail is barely traceable, track deviates slightly from ridge and is well followable. Path begins to ascend and soon we reach Muzari, from where fine views open in all directions.
