Access to starting point:
Leave the Primorska motorway at the Kastelec/Socerb exit. Cross the Slovenian-Italian border at the Socerb border crossing and descend along the road over the karst edge. Past the villages of Dolina and Kroglje, we arrive at Boljunec / Bagnoli della Rosandra, where we park in front of the France Prešeren Cultural Centre.
Route description:
From the center of Boljunec, we set off on foot along a narrow street towards Gornji Konec / Bagnoli Superiore and after approx. 800 meters we reach the Mario Premuda mountain hut. From there we follow the good markings and head along the valley of the Glinščica River past the remains of a Roman aqueduct. The first goal is the small church of St. Mary on the Rocks, from where we can climb a steep path behind the church to the Comicijev turn viewpoint, where a beautiful view opens up of Trieste and the Gulf of Trieste. On the other side we can observe the route of the former Kozina-Trieste railway line, along which we will return to the starting point. We return along the same path to the church and continue along the valley past the Supet waterfall to the border village of Botač (there is also a stamp on the Slovenian side here). From the village of Botač we ascend along a narrow forest path to the route of the former railway line, which we reach right behind the tunnel. We continue the path in the direction of Trieste, pass through two tunnels and then turn left onto a narrow forest path and on the way to the hut we also stop at the Zabrežec / Mocco viewpoint. Then we follow the direction signs and return to the hut.

Discussion about the trip Boljunec / Bagnoli della Rosandra - Val Rosandra

You can reach the former railway track also from the Slovenian side. At the Krvavi Potok border crossing go to Mihele village, where shortly before the little church turn left onto the forest road which brings you in a few hundred meters to the former Trieste-Kozina railway track. From there right past Draga we get there.

I warmly recommend visiting Boljunec, which is the starting point for countless paths in the Glinščica valley, and there are also some options for a bit of climbing. The "main" path is perfect for young families with children. In summer, you can cool off pleasantly in the Glinščica or spend the day on its bank. Definitely stop at the village inn in Botač. Grandma cooks divine spoon dishes and treat yourself to a glass of refošk, you won't regret it. I visit the valley often, it's so beautiful and peaceful.

Yesterday walked the mentioned path, the inn in Botač is closed due to "water infiltration". To me the nearby ferrata Bruno Biondi seems more interesting. From the lower parking lot in the village Jezero it's only a few minutes to the entrance to the ferrata, where the path runs transversely across the wall. This way we can nicely combine a circular walk through the valley and climbing.

From Portorož to border crossing Škofije. Then on the motorway to the "Grandi Motori" exit. Then by road to Boljunec.

This route of the former Kozina-Trst railway is actually a cycling path accessible from Kozina. If we go along the old road from Kozina a bit further towards Koper, the path branches off from the main road. After crossing the border in the middle of the forest, we join the route.
In September 2008 I went from Kozina along it to Trst. Just before Trst the path runs out and you have to explore the suburbs to get to the center (currently I don't remember how I found it). Trst itself is very modest with paths (compared to Lj we have nothing to complain about ). With the Opčina tram (takes two bikes per ride) I then rode to Opčina, from there to the border or Orlek on our side (path marked up to here), from there to the suburbs of Sežana and then to Lipica, then again across the border to Bazovica and Pesek (Pese), from there back to Kozina (it's closer to cross the border again than through Divača on Slovenian territory).
Nice trip!

Am I right in understanding that this is the described circular trail?

Can we park at koča M. Premuda and then return to it in a loop? We gain almost 2 km (because of children), right? We would probably go at the end of October, if the weather is nice. Thanks.

It won't work. The large parking lot for all visitors is in the village Boljunec, where the start of the footpath to Dolina Glinščice is also located...

We also had trouble with parking; with small children every meter of walking counts and walking through the village drags on. We solved the inconvenience by unloading the children from the car at the Premuda hut, then the husband drove the car to the Glinščica visitors center where there is parking, and caught up with us. http://www.mojstr.si/2017/11/z-dezja-pod-kap-in-na-sonce.html

Drive across the border crossing Kozina (Krvavi potok) to the village of Draga on the Italian side. Park in the center of the village and walk along the route of the former railway to the tunnel and immediately behind it descend to the village of Botac. From there, continue along the nicely laid-out footpath along the side of the gorge past the waterfall and chapel all the way to Boljunec. You can return to the starting point along the same route or along the route of the former railway. Of course, there are even more options for walking. You can't get lost. Access from the Slovenian side is much longer and not so interesting and less visited. But on the Slovenian side, the best starting point is the village of Beka. If you choose a starting point at any location on the Slovenian side, reckon that the gorge visit will take at least two or more hours. The climbing areas are right above the asphalt road Bazovica - Jezero - Boljunec...

Climbing areas are everywhere. Some sectors are above the mentioned road (there are also via ferratas there), some are above the railway, some right above Boljunec, some in the bottom of the valley. You have choices for a lifetime, just be careful because not all sectors are perfectly equipped.

thanks sezaba1 for info, from the described starting point first stop at that semicircular viewpoint, then descend along the path?

|
| sezana114. 10. 2021 20:03:22 |
Yes, possible. The semicircular starting point (viewpoint) is in the place Jezero, I recommended the path from the village Draga, which is before the village Jezero. From the village Draga you can go to the village Jezero along the edge of the canyon and enjoy the beautiful views and then descend along the path to the village Botac and from there continue as I described in the previous description. You will not get lost at all, especially at weekends, as there is a huge number of visitors from our side, and locals almost without exception speak Slovenian...

Travelers from Slovenia can enter Italy without quarantine obligation provided they simultaneously meet the following conditions: 1. Completed digital registration – dPLF (Digital Passenger Locator Form) https://app.euplf.eu/#/ (always, even in transit), which must be shown in electronic or printed form; 2. One of the valid so-called Green COVID-19 certificates issued by the competent health authority 3. Negative COVID-19 test (molecular PCR test not older than 48 hours, or rapid antigen test not older than 24 hours) from the time of sample collection, for all passengers over 6 years old.

Hi, please provide information on what the path from Sv. Marije na Pečeh to Comicijev turn is like... and if the branch to the Zabrežec viewpoint is marked at all, I was on reconnaissance but missed it, on Saturday I'm leading a group... best regards, K

The path is nothing special, a somewhat rugged mountain path that requires a safe and steady step. Similar to those around Gradiška tura, if you know them. To the viewpoint there's a direct path, which I might advise against if you don't know it. You also have one that goes from Gornji konec a bit around, that one is probably marked. Check in some app, unfortunately I can't attach a photo of the path.

Even simpler would be to call one of the local mountaineering clubs and I believe they would be willing to help, maybe even with a guide familiar with this terrain.

Jezero – San Lorenco (375m), where is this starting point for the Glinščica valley, there where the panoramic viewpoint is - semicircular, and before that the church? Thanks for the information

First time I recommend Boljunec and through the village to the valley. Second time Jezero, to Botač, then freely along Prešeren, there are quite a few paths on the other sides of the valley. Jezero, park at the church, I think it's still allowed, haven't been there for a long time: https://www.google.com/maps/place/34018+Jezero,+Trst,+Italija/@45.6270215,13.8712962,17z/data=!4m16!1m9!3m8!1s0x477b41b4494351c9:0xcd2391985a11b114!2s34018+Jezero,+Trst,+Italija!3b1!8m2!3d45.6270215!4d13.8712962!10e5!16s%2Fg%2F11b6ghd1b4!3m5!1s0x477b41b4494351c9:0xcd2391985a11b114!8m2!3d45.6270215!4d13.8712962!16s%2Fg%2F11b6ghd1b4?authuser=0&entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDQyOC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Today start at Mario Premud house, clockwise, so opposite to the description here. There are countless paths, very poorly marked, sometimes you just go by feel. Views super beautiful, no crowds. Parking at the house not allowed, actually not on the whole street. In the village first hour free.

The large parking lot in front of the visitor center and the France Prešeren Theater a bit lower in the village was still free last year; there is also a signpost to the valley or towards Premuda.
