Bijela - Canyon of Mostarska Bijela

Access to starting point:
From Mostar we drive by the river Neretva towards Jablanica, Konjic and Sarajevo. After approximately 20 km and just before or just after the bridge (aqueduct) we go right and we drive for about a kilometer to the starting point, which is at the bridge over the river Mostarska Bijela.

Route description:
From the parking lot, we go on a macadam path which is on the right or western side of the valley. The path after about 15 minutes crosses the river. If it is hot we can get water here, because we can't get any in the next two hours. On the macadam path we continue on the eastern side of the valley, the road becomes steeper to the turn-off for Lupoglav (LPG), where we don't turn right, but we follow the path. Soon the path turns and starts slightly descending, so that it reaches the valley of Mostarska Bijela. There we follow the road and at two turn-offs we rather stick to the western path. When after a good hour of walking, we get to a motorhome (and cairn) or a few meters before, we go right in the direction towards the forest. At this spot the blazes also begin, which then help us through entire path. From this spot further, the path runs mainly in the forest (shade), meanwhile we get to scenic huge rock shelters and a family cemetery.
When we get to the stream (Mostarska Bijela), at first we don't cross it, but we follow the sign (Ulaz u Pećinu), and later we finally cross on the right bank of the stream and after a minute or two we are in front of the entrance into the canyon. We change into shoes, which can get wet and we go into the canyon. The most demanding is the last part, where we climb a smaller waterfall on the right side of the stream (our left) and we are already before the final magnificent waterfall.
