Bergheimat - Scharnik (path 315)

Access to starting point:
Drive to the town of Irschen (Austria). The fastest way to Irschen is via the motorway to Spittal and then the regional road past the towns of Lendorf, Greifenburg and Dellach im Drautal all the way to Irschen. In the town of Irschen, follow the signs for Leppner Alm. The steep road winds along the steep scenic slope past houses, then turns into the forest. The road is macadam in the last part, until after a few kilometers we reach the destination at the parking lot under the hut or guesthouse Bergheimat.

Route description:
From the parking lot, head along the macadam road to the information boards and cross the small bridge. Immediately after the bridge, turn left onto the trail, which steeply ascends past the signposts. After a few minutes, you reach a track where the signpost directs right. After the bend, the signpost directs back onto the trail (direction Scharnik). Follow the trail through the sparse larch forest until it joins the road. Follow the road for a short section until well-visible markings direct right onto the trail. The trail leads to Ochsnerhütte at 1820 m.

The signpost behind the hut indicates the direction to Scharnik marked 315. Along the path, soon notice a larger cross. Then follows a small lake, after which follow the path to Scharnik. The path over grassy terrain transitions to the ridge, which becomes increasingly rocky. In the final part, the ridge becomes steeper. There are some fixed ropes on the path, but the path is nevertheless demanding. At the top, a cross, bench, logbook and stamp for the transversal Vrhovi prijateljstva await. Return is possible in the western direction past the mountain Dachskofel, 2373 m (15 minutes off the path along an easy undulating trail).
