Access to starting point:
We drive to Mojstrana, then follow the signs for Vrata Valley. We continue on the toll road, which is closed to public traffic in winter, following it to the large parking lot located a few minutes before Aljažev dom v Vratih.
Route description:
From the parking lot we continue along the gravel road closed to public traffic, passing Šlajmerjev dom and quickly reaching Aljažev dom v Vratih.
We bypass Aljažev dom on the right and continue straight towards Triglav, Sovatna, Luknja... (right Škrlatica, bivouac at Rušje...). We continue on the rougher gravel road past the winter shelter to a marked junction at the famous peg (monument to fallen partisan mountaineers).
We continue straight again (left Tominškova pot), a gentle path leads us with fine views of Triglav and Triglav North Face. After a few minutes we enter a beech forest where the path over Sovatna branches right; we go straight towards Luknja and Triglav - path over Prag. A short ascent on the track follows, then markers lead left to a path approaching the bed of Triglavska Bistrica. Here the path passes a memorial to mountain victims and soon reaches the next marked junction.
Left across the stream continues the path over Prag; we go straight on a path that gradually steepens more noticeably. The path to Luknja ascends moderately for a while, higher it becomes steeper and more panoramic. Higher still, the path goes through a belt of scrub and sparse woods where a trail branches right to the nearby bivouac; we continue on the broader path out of the woods shortly after. The path steepens a bit more, gradually leading to screes below Luknja. The scree path is quite slippery, but at the foot of the walls wire ropes help (easy when dry, mainly useful on descent). We ascend steeply beside the wall briefly, then the path veers slightly right and higher leads to the junction on Luknja, offering a fine view of the mountains above Zadnjica.
Start - Aljažev dom 0:05, Aljažev dom - Bistrica spring 0:55, Bistrica spring - Luknja 1:35.
Description and photos refer to conditions in 2017 (August).

Along the route: Aljažev dom v Vratih (1001m), Spomenik padlim partizanom gornikom (1020m), V Plazičih (1040m), Izvir Bistrice (1160m)

Discussion about the trip Aljažev dom v Vratih - Luknja

Over the passing weekend there were probably quite a few of you in the hills. I'm wondering if the path from Vrata to Luknja in these months (October, November) is still bathed in sun or already cooler. I'd go to catch the warm autumn rays and admire the colors.

Was towards Luknja today, but turned back on snow because I had no crampons. It sinks in some places, holds elsewhere. The whole path is in shade if you go early. Snow starts a bit higher than the Prag junction. Next time I'll go from the other side or wait for it to be dry.

Today 17.6.2012 went to Luknja from Vrata valley. I must say that those who marked the path certainly did not pay excessive attention to the summit section to the saddle. They should change this and redirect the path from the scree to the right bank when viewed from the direction of Vrata upwards, because it is extremely unsuitable for ascending. Downhill it is ideal, but in the opposite direction completely wrong, even if it has been like that for centuries, those who marked it chose the wrongly easier variant.

Hey, this August I plan to hike in these areas and I'm wondering if there is (or how demanding it is) a path from Luknja along the ridge to Begunjski vrh, or to Dom Valentina Staniča. I've searched quite a bit but haven't found the mentioned path. It's somehow marked on Geopedija, but I haven't found anything more than that. Can someone tell me more about it if they've already hiked it. Thanks and best regards

If you haven't been there yet, go via the threshold instead, you'll shorten the path a lot and won't get lost. The path you're probably thinking of isn't the ridge one but runs under the wall; the ridge one would be over the summit of Triglav. The trail marked with dashes on Geopedija is used by alpinists for approaching the wall and is unmarked.

Thanks for the reply, although I'm actually looking for a path from Pogačnikov dom to Valentina Staniča because the tour will first go from Vrata via Škrlatica to Pogačnikov dom. Then continue via Luknja to Dom Valentina Staniča (without going down to the valley first) and from there back down to the valley (I found the path from Pog. dom to Luknja, but not from Luknja to V.S.). I thought there was a path without needing climbing with fixed ropes etc. Well, I'll change the route a bit

Weather in Vrata held to the forecast on Sunday. Start at seven from the parking lot and already after a few minutes on snow ... but unfortunately only on a huge slide from Stenar Snow starts quite a bit higher up. Great for walking and in two hours we are at Luknja. From there we go to check how much snow remains under Gamsovec. We reached the snow patch a few tens of meters above 2000. The last 100-150 meters of elevation is fresh May rotten snow. Two marmots whistle in greeting and signal it's time to leave. To Luknja one short interruption, under Luknja however as you manage ... A few snapshots in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z4WwGvBNgg Panorama from below Gamsovec with fantastic view of Triglav. On first visit to the website a panorama of some inn or test panorama may appear. Click "test" or "skip" and the Triglav view will show. http://pan0.net/upano.php?id=4901

Went to Luknja, the last third of the path is covered with snow, especially right below the summit it takes quite some effort if you don't have crampons For the descent... skiing in boots is also fun

I really don't understand what's nice to see in Luknja. And I understand even less and approve of the hordes of tourists heading to Luknja. Some even in flip-flops, some in sneakers. And at 11 or even better at 12!!!! The path is NOT in good condition, in both directions. The scree is quite demanding and unpredictable!!! Safe steps to all

@rs-sport: The path is in good condition... towards the top there are a few meters of wire rope that helps you reach Luknja or on descent. With appropriate footwear and experience the path does not pose (major) difficulties. To the top via Plemenice without issues, the same applies via Doliča.

In the mountains there is always something beautiful. It depends on how you look at it. The mountains must pull you in... joy of the mountains. Joy of hiking, joy of nature. No one can force you and it won't stick if it's not for you. Maybe you can be a little convinced that it can be nice. Believe that you can love the mountains like skiing, like a ball, like a bike, like work you enjoy doing. But be even more careful in the mountains.
