Zbelovo Castle

nasmehZbelovo Castle above the Dravinja River and settlement of Zbelovo - as a mute remnant of events from past centuries it was today the basis for a miniature trail that connects at the bridge over the Dravinja River in Zbelovo settlement also to the Loško-Zbelovo hiking trail done a few days ago. Started at the bridge over the Dravinja River in Podpeč settlement by Dravinja and headed to the goal under the railway ,,velbom,, by the Dravinja River....Years ago with wife, daughter and son due to proximity and easy access quite a popular spot for a short forest walk to the ruins of once quite important castle and probably the most pronounced intermediate point between Žička Charterhouse and Dominican nuns' monastery in Studenice in the past stormy centuries...

Today there was no time to spare mežikanje, but still enough for a short hiking loop to Zbelovo Castle. Ascent done on the steep path and descent on the road back to Dravinja valley...

Late afternoon today to Zbelovo Castle from Podpeč by Dravinja. In recent weeks I've walked it several times and always accompanied by snow and icy sections. Ascent classically on steep variant and for ,,short loop,, descent on road.

After descent I extended along forest road to the start of Penoje settlement on the right side of Dravinja riverbed and this section for the first time. Interesting shortcut to... Loč through forest and also quite pleasant for bike too...

A Saturday-afternoon hiking snapshot together with wife in the nearby area - to Zbelovo Castle in its heyday also called Plankenstein...Source:. For a change first time ascent partly in combination of asphalt road and forest path. Industrious locals pulled it from oblivion a few years ago, as it was heavily overgrown with bushes. Inside there's also a box with logbook, no stamp though.

We chose starting point Podpeč... Zbelovo Castle/Podpeč, 15.12.2012...and thus even shorter walk along Dravinja River, which was medium high due to thaw. Even more elegant start is Zbelovo settlement, where to the proper ascent it's just a good stretch of path by firehouse and bakery across Dravinja. Path still partly snowy but undemanding. Didn't take photos, as snow scenery very similar to already added pics. To all forumers good mood and positive thoughts also for the rest of weekend easy, above all safe step. Once is first time and today hiking on ascent to Zbelovo Castle also extension to 438m high Zbelovsko mountain... Friends from Zbelovo mežikanje reminded me why not extend to the top if I'm already ,,hanging,, around there and describe it. Said and express done - interesting summit worth visit in the connecting section between Konjiška gora and Boč steeply rising above flood-prone Dravinja River. During activity the path led me also by the highest located homestead on Zbelovo mountain and on descent it turned out I know the locals...Friendly chat over a glass or two of local red with locals, freshly baked pastry - was enough for pleasant end of short activity on eastern slopes of Zbelovo mountain. By bike from Poljčane to 438m high Zbelovo mountain. Final approach from northeast side partly by bike and at end along the ridge dropping towards Penoje settlement - hiking. Ridge is distinctly rocky for this altitude and a poor hunter's path leads to it, then descent and continuing from bridge over Dravinja in Zbelovo again hiking once more to over 400m high Zbelovo Castle on steep northern path. Today would be !? best hybrid in triple function - road bike, MTB and hiking boots but it was combination of MTB and Salomons. Path along Dravinja distinctly muddy, higher a bit drier, temperature very pleasant. Yes, steep is this Zbelovo mountain from northern - shady side but in its way interesting and varied enough for this relatively low altitude...

Bike & hiking combination always very ready for Zbelovo Castle. On road of course possible by bike almost to ruins Zbelovo Castle, but steep path in hiking pace much more pleasant. Friends and acquaintances from Zbelovo reminded me why not add some more ,,sunny,, pics on the theme...True, grayness of short December and January daylight prevailed and today correcting. Bike and hiking combination on steep path variant to ruins of Zbelovo Castle in pleasant sunny afternoon. Somewhat extended on forest path above Dravinja to Penoje for more concrete thing. Today should have ,,fallen,, one combination in Sava river valley up and down, not to write exactly mežikanje ,,ajzenponarska,,...but Sunday turned things and activities upside down. So day not fully recreational in ,,franže,, late evening still emergency exit and Zbelovo Castle minimum acceptable...From Podpeč by Dravinja to Zbelovo and up steep path and down in combination forest path & road. This is one short activity but very mežikanje ,,fragrant,, with fresh bakery products wafting from bakery nicely uphill along path. Pleasant, nothing to it...on descent also bought some bakery products and nicely back home to Poljčane...Path slightly wet and pleasant temperature. Also mežikanje small curiosity, railway bridge over Dravinja in Podpeč on penultimate photo a decade and half ago still connected Poljčane and Zgornje Poljčane, thus also path from Poljčane to Boč. After construction of new reinforced concrete bridge it was relocated to Podpeč, where it replaced old dilapidated wooden bridge and started mežikanje second life period. Lp Bruno/bruny

Today towards evening together with better half to ruins of Zbelovo Castle short activity, which was first time done in ,,road,, variant. Besides steep path to castle of course road variant ,,notneeded,, but today still pleasant walk on asphalt steeply up and last part on pleasant forest path to castle, so there was some real hiking ,,feeling,,. For locals and especially weekenders by road this is of course window to the world, but mežikanje (un)enviably steep. About path conditions writing pointless...,except that for mid September somewhat too coooold. Route:Zbelovo Castle by road, 19.09.2013 Regards

Afternoon to the castle ruins in the steep variant from Zbelovo. Yes, above Dravinja some beeches have fallen in the steep slope while the path up was without problems. Dravinja in the valley medium high but in the riverbed. Thaw has not fully arrived here yet and on the path lots of fallen glaze.

Hiked the steep path to the castle ruins from Podpeči via Zbelovo. Path dry, some northwest wind, cloudy and a bit of drizzle from low clouds.
Light was already lacking towards evening...1

The better half said elderberry... of course the right thing is elderberry tea... excellent for draining toxins from the body and good for mežikanje !? all sorts of things. Location, today's more than right, eco... no petrol fumes nearby and plenty of it available. Pleasant with useful... Path wet, the wind was calming down and that was it. Steep up and down from the starting point Podpeč by Dravinja/,,at the willows,,... Lp

Towards evening a combination of bike and steep path to Zbelovo Castle. The year 2014 somehow ,,broke,, from yesterday to today, the daylight has already yielded a few minutes to the dark part and since time was short, the castle above Zbelovo or Dravinja for a few recreational minutes directly from Poljčane. Judging by the entries, interesting places are found as homes of visitors...Ljubljana, Zagreb, Murska Sobota...Maybe some contributions from records on those pages, also two added routes or maybe mežikanje not! Anyway a pleasant spot for basic ,,stretch,, here and there...and that's right...maybe in combination with Boč or Konjiška gora for a good hundred elevation meters on steep path. Thanks to the maintainers of the path who replaced some heavily worn wooden steps with a handrail.

Such a day, mežikanje a quiet rainy day and in these days we ,,made it,, well under Boč and along Dravinja...Circular combination to Zbelovo Castle...Up steep and down road...Starting point of course as usual Podpeč along Dravinja at ,,willows,,. Path wet, partly muddy, light rain. Dravinja in its bed and low water level too. Entry in summit book above and today I was not alone, wife was with me. It was 2.48 km. What to add, definitely pleasant in nasmeh two...path well known and here and there, say once per season the right one. Photographed for current conditions, not today!

Duathlon to Zbelovo Castle, bike and hike...under steep path to Zbelovo with MTB, up hike on steep path, entry in book and descent partly through forest and under first stone house/gurca down road. Of course return by bike and extension under Ljubično, Zgornje and across Spodnje Poljčane home...As usual wind along Dravinja always mežikanje ,,blows in your face,, whichever way you go and today too. Definitely pleasant combination, eco approach...After correction 14.53 km.
Probably wouldn't have mežikanje done the activity but preparing another official route to Zbelovo Castle and was short of four, five autumn pics...

This afternoon to the rocky area of the summit of Zbelovska gora in combination with a bike to the foot of Zbelovska gora and hiking pace to the top. To the top of Zbelovska gora via the western rocky ridge. It's quite pronounced, one of the more interesting ones in the wider area. Quite some complete off-path too. Not many visitors walk this ridge. The ,,cream,, of visits takes the somewhat lower Zbelovo Castle and that's correct too. February glaze did a lot of damage here, quite a few fallen trees. Obviously the proximity of Dravinja, which flows directly along the entire northern foot, added some more damage with its warmth, which spread higher and stressed the trees. Height of Zbelovska gora is 438 meters. Clear and sunny. No wind. Caught some last sun on the ridge. Very pleasant short activity it was...

By bike to Zbelovo settlement, fairly easy flat ride between Dravinja on one side and railway on the other...At start of steep variant left bike and up to castle ,,on foot,,. In good three hundred meters, 130 elevation meters. Quite a real ,,steep haul,, this ascent. Entry in book, some views mainly over Dravinja valley and descent. Path completely dry. Return today in ascent direction and some mini additions further on field roads and paths between settlements Ljubično, Zg. Poljčane and Podbočje for a bit more...Quite pleasant is mežikanje bike and hike combination here and there...

From Podpeč settlement by Dravinja via Zbelovo ascent to Zbelovo Castle. Ascent on Steep Path, which is steep in the true sense. Partly wet and muddy. On return from western Boč area still short hike to Zbelovo Castle. On Steep Path, which is relatively ,,sharp,, - they already mežikanje knew centuries ago where to build castle for safety. Short view of the world along Dravinja river, entry in summit book and descent by road back to Podpeč by Dravinja, which was suitable start - conditions optimal...Strava/Zbelovo Castle on Sunday,19.03.2017 & Pešpoti/Zbelovo Castle,19.03.2017 Lp
