Žaga - Planina Baban - Kanin Hut

Hello, my acquaintance, an experienced mountaineer and lover of pathless terrain in the alpine world, has asked me to obtain information about the mentioned tour. Any information about this path will be useful to him and he thanks everyone in advance.

You have several options how to do this tour. From pl. Baban you can go towards the Kanin hut:
- over Sedlo Med Baban and part of Alta Via Resiana path, then to the hut from Vrh Laške Planje or Kanin summit,
- over or past Veliki Babanski Skedanj,
- under Skedanj and past pl. Gozdec to the hut. Maybe I forgot some option. It's probably best to say which approach you'd take, then it'll be easier to write about the chosen option

The second option is the best.
Even better is to drive by car to station B and from there to Babanjski Skedenj and then to the old hut and down or to the new one and down the ski slope.
From Žaga I recommend visiting Baba more, which from pl. Baban is anyway half pathless. The screes are generally passable everywhere, provided it's clear and you have time.
Description can be found in the book Manj znane poti by Habjan or in Gore nad Sočo by Stritar, where you can get lots of new ideas.
In summer walking is very strenuous due to high grass and nettles. Best time is right after snow melts or in autumn.

How long to walk from station B to the ski area itself? Is the road to the mentioned station passable for passenger car?

Usually the road is OK. Unfortunately no data on current condition.

We went last year. It was possible to drive on the road. I remember they brought loads of sand to the road to fill the potholes.

Today I watched 'chamois' for more than an hour via webcam near the upper gondola station, they were going into the station interior or some space and out. I counted 7 in total and they couldn't go anywhere. The eighth soon pooped and went somewhere to the right above the station, the seven were hanging around a bit in front of the building and more inside and maybe hoped to start the cable car and go down to the valley. It was really interesting to watch them. They really are ibex, if I look a bit closer at the horns it fits.
