Vrh nad Peski 7. 1. 2019.
Start at planina Kuhinja, continuation through Lužnica valley to the summit. From the lake in Lužnica onwards, winter equipment is recommended, towards the summit mandatory. Despite the thick morning fog, a beautiful day developed in the afternoon, disturbed only by a moderate northerly wind on the summit.

Yesterday wonderful day for visiting Krn Mountains. From planina Kuhinja, past the lake in Lužnica to Prag and then to Vrh nad Peski. Met some families and some individual hikers. Path without peculiarities. The last minutes below the summit require caution in places, because it is quite steeply cut off. On the summit wonderful views far around, also to both Krn lakes in the valley - the largest - Krn Lake and the lake in Lužnica. On Krn like an anthill. We soaked up the sun and beauties. To the starting point good two and a half hours' drive, but worth it. nasmeh
Morning above the Kuhinja highland.1
You won't forget this view.2
Both parking lots very crowded, most heading towards Krn via the direct path.3
Past the first highland.4
And past the second highland. Lots of cattle on pasture, path well manured.5
Trough with water on Leskovca highland.6
Personal signposts.7
We go through the scree.8
Matajur and Kolovrat, a bit higher the sea has also appeared.9
Karst section with wire ropes that we didn't need.10
Entry into the high mountains.11
Whiteness in the middle - that's where we're heading.12
This is what we were waiting for - beautiful lake in Lužnica.13
From the other side too.14
And further on the scree path, in the scorching sun, through the Peski glacial valley.15
Little flowers, as expected.16
View back - very beautiful area.17
Junction just below Prag saddle.18
Signpost at the saddle and behind Vrh nad Peski.19
From Prag very nice views, right ridge Vrh nad Peski.20
And once again.21
Only here does the unmarked section of the path begin.22
Vrh nad Peski from the other side - pure whiteness, greyness...23
Fortunately there's a small grassy saddle in between for the eyes to rest...24
... and suddenly wonderful views. Wow!25
Last meters below the summit.26
Happy and satisfied at the summit. Krn within reach.27
The one and only group photo at the summit.28
This is the view around, Krn Lake below too.29
Mini Aljaž Tower and views to the other side. Lake in Lužnica also visible.30
On the way back we descended to the lake in Lužnica. It was very cold.31
Last views of the lake.32
On the return we only then saw this feature - Rdeči rob. Wonderful!33
Afternoon farewell to Krn Mountains.34
Conclusion of the tour at the parking lot. We will return to these areas.35

Sun rays have already well illuminated the top of Krn when we started at empty parking at planina Kuhinja. Over Leskovec and directly over the avalanche chute to the saddle between Maselnik and Stador, where sun shines on us in the cirque. Snow is still firm enough and to Lužnica we follow firm tracks of rare predecessors. Above the lake we turned right to the notch between Škofiča and Mali Peski. There behind the other story began so snowshoes came into action, for access to the summit itself in the SE ridge area again good snow conditions. Could see about 6-7 ski tourers on Preg and Batognica, one approached the summit via gully in the west ridge area. Descended through Lužnica valley already in real heat, at parking it showed 21°C, snow on Krnska plošč is melting fast.

Peski towards the pyramid during the First World War. Picture from then. Doesn't belong under current conditions but history is.

23.9. 2021. We didn't go to Summit above Peski. To the monument below the summit. From planina Polog over planina Lašča. Continuation past Kunterjev Palec and under Škofič all the way to the monument. Descended via Prehodci to the starting point. The tour isn't short. 23 km walking and 1650 elevation gain. Morning was nice. No clouds. Later around 12 o'clock they covered the peaks. As a curiosity on descent we saw a viper for the first time this year, which quickly withdrew into a hole. And quite some chamois visible under Lipnik. That's the name of the peak ahead from Lašča.
