Terza Piccola (2334 m)

We slept in the private hut Piani del Cristo (room with shower 22 € per person). In the morning it was zero outside and the sky without a cloud. We drove down to Sappada, below the place Palu we searched for our road marked 313, higher trail 311. First a nice forest road turns into a still quite good path, then more like marked pathless terrain, which higher transitions into a nice cirque and so to Forcella Terza Piccola. At the col we leave backpacks and after 146 elevation meters with the help of red dots we reach the top of the third triplet. Of course through a crumbly gully, through a narrow chimney and some 15 m long exposed ridgelet (good II.) and on grasses where remains of the last snowfall lay. Again very impressive view on nearby Dolomites and mountains above Sappada. Followed a careful descent back to the col and on south slopes to Digola saddle, from there just the road (313) to the start. Since we stood on all three Terzas we can say Terza Grande is the highest but at the same time the easiest to access, the somewhat lower Terza Media is definitely the hardest, in difficulty Terza Piccola follows right after. Anyway, all three Terzas are truly great peaks worth a visit.

I approached under the summit part of Terza Piccola via Passo della Digola saddle, descent via the cirque under the ridge of Creste di Tolar, reverse therefore as descriptions recommend, and after the tour I was extremely satisfied with the decision. The path from Forcella Terza Piccola to the summit is as it was, or as predecessors traversed it. To the chimney quite scree, walking and scrambling, there option through the opening or bypass on smooth rocks, where a freely hanging rope fixed in a bolt helps. Then still an exposed ridge, admittedly short, and you are already on the grasses, from which to the summit just a few minutes. Since I experience mountains very emotionally since always, here too it was close to a tear flowing on the summit, both from happiness and from the view in the logbook, where I spotted the signature of a mountain colleague who is no longer with us, and his friend. It was really beautiful up there in robes, I really had to force myself to head back to the valley. The descent went splendidly from under my feet and hands, in passing I was at the forcella, from there to the valley the path was so nice and pleasant that it did not bother me at all that it was also quite long. Another day when life was written with a capital letter and the soul is richer for yet another precious memory. nasmeh

After Čisti vrh in chosen company a week before, I literally yearned for Karnic peaks. I had wanted to revisit Piccolo for a long time, of all three Terze it appeals to me the most due to its remoteness from other mountains and thus especially enchanting views. This time I tackled the ramble counter-clockwise, if I come again, I will do the same. The path on both sides of Forcella Terza Piccola is exemplarily marked, also trodden, but above Passo della Digola the path section is a real mess, there caution is especially in place. And on the entire summit part of the path, or direction as you like, since it is terrain quite similar to Martuljek peak. Karst, scree. The rope at the chimney still hangs, I would say the same as four years ago, at least it looks and feels so. On the summit section, ozi markers and bolli rossi help with views, without hand assistance it does not go, perhaps that slab at the chimney really smells like poor II. Views were still quite good, could have been worse, just like at the beginning of the ascent when due to fog I chose the variant for the diligent ones and successfully extricated myself from it of course. Bottom line, including the morning addition, it was well worth the sin. nasmeh
