From Mangartska planina I go along the marked path towards Mangart saddle, but not far, as I soon turn left onto the slope of Dren. The start of the hunting path is of course hidden, but further on I find the familiar trail that takes me up under little Ruša. To the saddle Čez Stože it's then just a stone's throw. From the saddle I continue on the Italian side to Vraška škrbina, look across and return, then climb to the saddle above Sinji dol, followed by a short ascent over steep grass and scree to the summit of panoramic Vršič. On the summit I sit and enjoy the luxurious views, the idyll disturbed only by an Italian helicopter flying the area from Kanin to Mangart. I descend to Stože saddle and go along the marked path, which belongs to the cross-border paths framework and I marked it back in 2006 to Mangartska planina. The cross-border paths project was of course badly threatened by the former PZS president, so this matter will still be relevant.

Nice tour in a somewhat remote area. But for Vršič summit you described approximate difficulty, I'm interested in the description of the easiest "path" and difficulty to the summits of Mala Ruša and Veliki Grintavec. Since you're an expert, surely you've visited both. Thanks and safe in the mountains.

Again an afternoon tour, because otherwise it just wasn't possible. I bike to Mangrtska planina, then over the border pass Predel to Rabelj. I park near the start of path 511 to Portello - Vraška škrbina. The path is nice and rises steadily, soon I come across a century-old spruce, higher up concrete remains of the former hut. The last part of the path is through a larch grove. Occasional views to foggy mountains. Soon at the škrbina and at saddle Čez Stože. Since it's drizzling just then I don't linger and descend towards Mangrtska planina, en route I come across tasty strawberries which I of course devour eagerly, lower down the already 10-year-old non-degradable plastic rubbish that they dragged up to remediate the landslide area but totally unprofessionally and wrongly. High time for the appropriate institutions with TNP at the helm to take action against this horrific practice in the central area of Triglav National Park. Of course I stop at the planina where I chat with Ana and Tinet, a piece of the best mountain cheese goes into the backpack. I recommend to everyone a visit to the planina and purchase of dairy products, which in such form and so good are available only up there and nowhere else in the world. At the edge of the planina I mount my bike and ride down to Mlinč, then over Predel to Rabelj. Nice interesting combined circular tour, which I strongly recommend.

at the time of installing the info board it was 150 years old with a circumference of 4.7 meters

from the former hut only the info board remains, built 1945, destroyed in snow avalanche in winter 1950/1951

A few days ago I wandered again above Mangrtska planina. I actually like going up there quite often, since something interesting always happens in those parts. I have nothing to add to my original description, just those plastic pipes should finally be removed, because they are a real shame for TNP.

shame, shame, such pipes lie in the avalanche area and next to it for more than 100 metres

True, those pipes are a real shame on this wonderful path. They probably had their purpose back then, now they are just unnecessary junk along the path.

The purpose was indeed water drainage from the landslide area, but it was done in a totally unprofessional way, so no drop flowed through some parts.

Afternoon, 26.1. from Mlinč partly along Mangart road, then edge of Stožje landslide to Stožje pass and Vršič. Back in moonlight through Sinji dol to forest along water channel to Strmec.

After return from the old hut and malci I continue towards Vršič. Through the forest it was quite a torment. Even with snowshoes it was pushing through. At the top of Stoža I swap snowshoes for crampons and ice axe. On the top I take a bit more time for the view, as the sun warmed nicely. I return via the torrent gully which takes me to the road at the dam. This feat took a lot of my strength and skill.

all good things must come to an end, time to go home

Autumn days like today don't let you rest, laze or God forbid complain. So we chose wandering over the peaks above Mangartska planina. From the planina we went on marked path to saddle čez stože crossed to Italian side and after few meters left marked path towards peak Šober / Monte Sciober Grande and at the foot of vršič via scree climbed to saddle between Vršič and V.Grintavec. From saddle first we go right on less visible trail to the neighbor of grintavec, then back down to saddle and do ascent also to Vršič. Descend same path to saddle čez stože, here we don't go on marked path to planina anymore, go straight along border stones through clearing among bushes, follow nice pathlet to below malo ruša where path turns steeply and is well traceable all to planina to our start.

25.7.2024. On paths unknown to us. From Predel border crossing we went in pleasant cool along old border path to the top of Predelska glava (1613m). We were heading to Vršič. We saw this peak last year when we went from Remšedol to both Grintovca. On the continuation of our path, we didn't know how it goes, all the way to the gully Sinji dol. First it was well traceable. Led nasmeh

into steepness, then descends. Some places dense bushes. But we're used to that anyway. At the saddle under Sinji dol there were about eight hikers visible. Later we met and chatted. They went to Grintavec. Then also ascent to Vršič. With navigation help no problems. Descended to our side. To Mangartska planina. From there not much walking to Predel. A bit also on road. Day was as forecast. Nice. And not too hot. All four satisfied with the path and visit to both peaks.

Some kind of apple-flavored beer they had.

Our tour was long, but at the same time wonderful nasmeh

Rabelj-Vraška škrbina-saddle Škrbinica-Vršič-Sinji dol-Stože-Predel-finish on footpath to Rabelj.

Main goal of the tour was ascent to Predelski Vršič, we hesitated a bit at start and chose Rabelj, because we wanted walk through larch grove and admire north faces of Predelski vršiči. For return we said we'd decide when back from Vršič (hoping we wouldn't drag ourselves), since we didn't know the path through Sinji dol either. But we said let's go and see. It went quite easily, just in forest had to watch walking on dry leaves on steep parts, but that caution we were used to already from ascent to Vršič. True, we lost the path for a moment, but soon found it again. When we reached the slide, we just went straight down to Mangartski potok and immediately found marked path that delivers you to road. Then a bit down road, bit up to Predel and bit down to junction to nice footpath that takes you under Predelske glave to Rablj. We figured it might have been a drivable path to Predel once, since we saw several concrete confinements along the path. Path leads just before end over little bridge, where you can admire Rabeljski slap, which is always worth a visit anyway.

We both agreed it was really beautiful circular path, that little road walking wasn't too much, since in these nice autumn days walking there is pure pleasure too.
True, on whole path we met no hiker, only person who spoke to us was border police with Italy who wanted to see documents nasmeh
