Today we paragliders visited Styrian Rinka. We started at 5 from Konc via Žmavčarji and bivouac under Skuta to the top of Styrian Rinka. We arrived at 8.15 and flew towards Jermanova vrata.

Wonderful! Bravo! To be a bird above the mountains for a moment...

Nice weather was promised for today, of course escape from the foggy cold valley is inevitable. Around 7 I park at the end, the road is wavy like the sea during a storm. I head to the Žmavčarji slopes. Nothing new, the path is trodden, there are lots of visitors. Around the bivouac I make a detour to the left, cross the marked path and on to Mala Rinka a bit my own way, all to avoid snow which barely exists anyway. From Mala Rinka to Štajerska Rinka a few meters on snow, higher to Križ, especially Kranjska Rinka, but in low shoes and without winter gear I didn't want to go. Weather was fantastic, hot, accordingly quite a few visitors, not all locals I returned the same way. On arrival in the valley the peaks started wrapping in dark gray clouds.

The path over Žmavčarje is also very pleasant for me and I enjoy it. I see you photographed the fixed ropes. Only the middle one is still usable, the lower and upper ones are completely destroyed and would represent a big danger in partly snowy conditions if a hiker relies on them. I fear they won't ever renew them. Since you took no pics to the north, I'll add some.

Thanks, Dejan - from Mala Rinka. I like the first one too. You say that from the green hillock (right) towards Mrzla gora it's very eroded?

I was there 2 years ago. You go more or less along NE side and to have something remain in your hand you don't need much. There was enough soil there, in wet it would probably be mud. Maybe better now, anyway I prefer to ascend that part rather than descend. Maybe next year

Tone, those cables would be best to remove altogether. It's not a secured path anyway. Nice that Grega makes us jealous. We push leaves. But I don't begrudge it to him. Does anyone remember when it was so dry in KSA at the end of November?

Now it will be rather bad (2 weeks), from the 13th onwards till the end of the year it looks like nice weather.

Those mattresses have been in the cave as long as the new wooden bivouac is at this spot.

Lijaneja, in the new bivouac there were benches on which you could sleep and have a roof over your head. Some called it architectural achievement, others a botch. For me the found state reminded of a camp, just looked a bit better. If bivouacs by basic function are for emergency shelter and overnight, if you go climbing or longer tour, would urgently need at least blankets. I filled my backpack and brought to bivouac what seemed essential to me. When I came next time, nothing was there anymore. You can imagine how much it pissed me off.

Exactly like that. And everyone was talking about how wonderful the bivouac is. But in reality the old one offered visitors much more.

The old one had much fewer visitors, and as for unwanted visitors, there probably weren't any at all. I mean that the (new) bivouac itself is not to blame for the blankets disappearing, but the "flowerbed" of people that it attracts as an attractive bivouac.

About this bivouac it was written everywhere, even TV and radio were "full of it". Oh and wow, architectural marvel, award-winning design, etc. etc. Many visited it just out of curiosity, without climbing any peak along the way, some surely went up there for a "party". They built a similar, if not identical bivouac on Kanin too, the story there is even sadder. The only good thing about these new "fancy schmancy full cool" bivouacs is that they figured it out in time what and how and then built a copy of number two at Na Jezerih, otherwise there would still be a full modern and fairly useless bivouac

It's true what you wrote, and as turbo said, the bivouac was heavily advertised in the media everywhere. A lot has changed in a few years with the internet age, some for the worse, some for the better. The mountain world is undoubtedly paying its toll! But this too will pass someday.

turbo, if I remember correctly, today's bivouac under Skuta was supposed to replace the old bivouac II. Anyway, now both are new. Little one, kindness is an orphan
