St. Jakob 806m, Bukovica 714m (circular tour via Studenčice)

So as not to get bored at home along with the weather, I head out on an MTB tour that climbs to Jakob via Studenčice (at Preska after the fire station, left into the valley). Further, at the end of the valley this time right (option also left on gravel via Mamovec farm), which leads across Studenčice. The road is asphalt and not too steep (some sections). The morning was still quite cold, so gloves and cap were quite useful. On the ridge all was calm with light wind, hikers nowhere due to changeable weather. At Tehovec settlement, I hop on foot to nearby Bukovec, where due to young beeches the view isn't great. A bit further at the saddle under Jakob I spot a huge bird in the distance. Wings enormous, but not like an eagle. At the ends they were curved at an angle and quite narrow pointed. Then much closer I spot Šoja sitting on the stump by the sign. I ride to Jakob from where a 10 km descent to Dolnice followed. The tour can be done in reverse too, but the descent is much shorter there. I did the tour in 1h55min, avg. speed 17.1 km/h and traveled a total of 31 km. Now I feel reborn.nasmehvelik nasmeh

I don't know our hills that well, those areas, no, I prefer higher mountains; these hillocks I'll visit in old age when I hobble.
Thanks for the pics.

That can happen pretty quickly, and you'll be glad if you crawl up these. Speaking from own experience. For a while low hillocks were fine.nasmeh

Let's hope and think good, otherwise these hillocks are not just for pensioners. They offer more than one can imagine. From collecting pathless paths, sometimes climbing steep rocks (Polh. Grmada, pathless to Vel. Babnik from Omejca), diversity of animal and plant life, lots of circular connecting paths, inns and mt. huts, even skiing possibility in winter up to 550 m alt.
Today's tour was especially nice, green and calm, which was noticeable also by encounters with animals.

Today only to Mala Ojstrica, snow starts above 1600-1700 m.
Some went to the top despite snow, I was firmly convinced it wasn't worth continuing as I can visit Ojstrica next year snowless; anyway people aren't eternal, mountains are.

Cloudy morning just right for MTB tour to Jakob.
Past Preska into the valley for Studenčice, at the end of the valley at the gates left towards farm Pr´ Mamovc to the west ridge of Jakob at 701 m. Today climbs somehow hard, but just before the saddle I notice riding on half-flat rear tirezmeden. Good that the buddy behind had a pump and we fixed the problemnasmeh. Then together over Toško čelo to Ljubljana. No frost for biking, paths mostly dry.
Snow all gone, just patches in shady spots as reminder of poor rainy winter and even for March drought forecast. Lp!

Today, a tour repeated so many times, but it always enchants and is one of the nicer MTB tours around Ljubljana.
I rode Jakoba circularly over Toško čelo to Katarino, followed by a rest (lying on the bench), and descent on the S singletrack to the west ridge above Mamovc to Presko.
Today up there it blew a bit stronger from the north and pleasantly cooled, in the valley muggy and stuffy. Cumulus clouds were quite high, so I only saw the outline of the sun at the top. No picsnasmeh

They say it's even muggier in the heat if you don't move, so I went biking.
Not too early in the morning I still rode in the cool through the valley behind Studenčice, turned left over weekend houses to Mamovc to the ridge. There around the road over Brezovica to Jakoba.
At the top stuffiness eased and lying in the shade on the bench it was nicely breezynasmeh. Only descent over Toško čelo to Ljubljana basin awaitedjezen. Daytime MTB tours in this heat not suitable.
On the ridge near Mamovcu1
Still the last hour for MTB2
At the top it was less hot3

For today's late afternoon tour to Jakoba, for a change I choose the path over Studenčice.
First nicely into the solitary valley, higher up no living souls, beautiful calm of nature tipping into autumn. Up at the farm I chat with the older farmwife, who says there will be a harsh winter this year because there were unusually many wasps during mowing in summer. I also rode on slippery larch needles that had fallen on the asphalt road, which also heralds a harsh winter. I met some cyclists only on the descent from Toško čelo, in short, a solitary and nice tour in the setting sunnasmeh.
