Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail

This time to visit this beautiful trail I had to get up a bit earlier velik nasmeh. I drove towards Gemona, Slovenian Humin, and parked in the hamlet Artegna near it. There is a parking for a few cars and right away signs for the start of the trail. The trail runs along the torrent Orvenco, which has been extensively regulated with barriers. And exactly these are responsible for the numerous beautiful waterfalls, which are particularly full-flowing at this time of year nasmeh. The trail ends at the inn Al Tulin, the return follows one of the marked descent variants.

To make use of the dry day among numerous rainy ones, as well as the long drive I didn't return precisely to the starting point. For an additional goal I chose Mali Karman, with ascent along the left slope and path 715, descended along the right ridge on path 714. Followed a visit to the lower ridge with peaks Monte Campeon and Monte Faeit at the head and returned to the starting point in Artegna from the other side. More in the photo story …

Coordinates of the starting point (Artegna): 46.248153, 13.158545
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail I park on the upper edge of Artegna village. There is space for a few cars.1
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Right above the parking there is already a sign for Pot slapov, originally Sentiero delle cascate.2
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail There are also enough markings further on. The path ascends along the Torrente Orvenco river, there are enough alternatives for the return.3
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Most of the waterfalls are the result of torrent regulation.4
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Remnant of the past, purpose unknown to me.5
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail One of the more magnificent waterfalls. Its viewing requires more caution.6
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Here there is only a one-way passage. An enormous amount of water pours into the depths.7
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail These two are tamer, but I still photograph them from farther away :)8
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Barriers that redirect the water's force.9
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail The path briefly rises above the gorge and offers a nice view of the surrounding hills.10
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail This is roughly what most of the path looks like.11
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Another in the series of cascading waterfalls.12
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail There is also quite a bit of broken wood in the gorge, but it does not obstruct progress.13
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail In the steep sections, stairs are even helpful, although the ground isn't particularly muddy anywhere.14
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail There are enough signposts, and quite a few junctions too.15
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Direction …. Tulin waterfall16
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail The fence has seen better days, but the path is passable without problems.17
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail After a few calm sections, wilder waters are up again.18
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Interesting, a brand new sign. Here you need to cross the riverbed, without a bridge of course :)19
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Tulin Waterfall, the only natural one along the entire path. The Waterfall Trail ends above it at the Al Tulin inn.20
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail To make the most of the day and long drive, I don't return to the starting point but continue to Karman.21
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail From the gorge a narrow path steeply shoots up.22
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Borgo Bulons and Mali Karman in the background. Up there I'm going …23
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail First I think of a mining elevator, but the object turned out to be a church bell tower :)24
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail My path is marked 715, the wind will obviously help on the ascent :)25
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Walking on nice forest gravel. Midway I come across a spring arranged back in 1885.26
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail The forest parts, ascending bare slopes.27
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Facing the valley, meaning unknown.28
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Two types of signs appear: classic white-red CAI and these yellow ones.29
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Still far away, far ...30
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Ascending the left slope, returning via the right ridge.31
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Nice, the inscription is even in Slovenian :)32
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail With altitude the views increase too.33
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Mesh base for paraglider launches. It wasn't there on the previous visit.34
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Elio Pischiutti shelter right below the summit, secured with chains for winter conditions.35
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail The hut interior is typically Italian with a hearth, polenta pots and a strong smoky smell.36
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Up to the highest point, some easy ridge walking follows.37
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail This is quite a surprise. Even Veliki Karman has no snow.38
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Il Redentore, chapel on the top of Malega Karmana.39
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Height 1372 m. GPS data confirms it.40
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail View westwards. No snow on southern sides, beyond the edge probably different.41
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail I will descend this ridge. Path narrow with steep slopes on both sides.42
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Much later return along the ridge with Monte Campeon and Monte Faeit summits.43
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail View back …44
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Soon in forest area. Vegetation dormant, no more ticks.45
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail One of many markers. Following GPS track made at home computer.46
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Bird trap, such as I have only observed in these parts.47
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Birds were once hunted for the table, today they are more places for pleasant relaxation.48
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail The hunting technique is depicted on the information board, which also explains when and why they did it.49
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Branch-off to Monte Faeit, today an insignificant and viewless peak.50
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Just below it stands a dilapidated barracks, indicating a different role for the peak.51
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail A little further on, there is a splendid view of the extensive lowland far below.52
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail The descent follows paved paths, probably of military origin as well.53
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail I emerge near the last houses of Artegna village. I'm almost back at the start.54
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail Loop completed...55
Sentiero delle cascate – Waterfalls Trail In total it came to 20 km and 1500 m elevation gain.56

Beautiful. According to some sources Artegna should also have a Slovenian name namely Ratenj:
https://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seznam_slovenskih_zemljepisnih_imen_Furlanije_-_Julijske_krajine

From Faeit there really aren't many views, from nearby Campeon it's much better. It was like this on its summit in March 2018.
