Sella Prasnig - Prašnik Saddle

Since the Mrzla voda-Riofreddo valley is closed to car traffic, this time I set off from Strmec-Log pod Mangartom too, by bike over Predel and a bit lower I left the road and went along an "off road" variant that took me directly to Cave del Predil-Rabelj. I continued to the Mrzla voda valley, from there the only companion is Mrzla voda, which higher up is replaced by silence. On the bike I advance quickly and ride a little higher than the junction to Rabeljska škrbina, then the bike can't grind the stones on the path anymorevelik nasmeh and although it wasn't planned, I go on foot to Prašnik saddle. I return the same way, but as usual my tours are almost always fun and interesting, this one is no exceptionmežikanje. When I'm already on the bike "rushing" and trying to avoid the "rainy" clouds that are visibly multiplying, I feel I hit a rock and the consequence, well...flat rear tire, it just happenszavijanje z očmi, a slight problem arose when I realized I didn't have the "service kit" with me, it was lazing at homevelik nasmeh and since the valley is loooong I continue riding to the start...and since everything always sorts out one way or another and I don't stress over such things, the solution came from a friendly local lady who drove me to the car and I was home just before the rainmežikanje...beautiful, lonely and long valley and views of the walls and peaks from the valley wonderfulnasmeh

When the mountains are shrouded in fog, wind starts blowing and snow is approaching, it's the right time to head to the Mrzle vode valley. This romantic valley between Kamniti lovec and Kraljevska špica is unjustly forgotten. Today it was somewhat melancholic, but still truly dreamy. At the beginning of the valley just behind the village there was about 10 cm of snow, in the head of the valley almost 40 cm. The babbling of water soon stopped and I enjoyed the peaceful silence, only hearing the even glide of skis. At the end, the view under the walls surprised me, no icefalls, just some "snot" higher up. I continue up the snowy road towards Prašnik. When I'm pushing up the slope and already slightly out of breath, the phone rings, followed by an arrangement for tomorrow. Just then it starts snowing, first individual flakes, then real snow. How nice. When I reach the flat part, I go left up. I catch some path that's already quite overgrown (alessio, if you decide to clear it, I'll help)mežikanje. This time I don't go to the ridge, but stop under some spruce. Snowflakes are falling, I'm drinking tea and preparing for the descent in between. The snow is soft on a hard base. Skiing is light and enjoyable, also on the road and through the forest. From the head of the valley to the car, lots of gliding steps. I definitely recommend visiting this romantic valley to anyone for whom it's not too much.
You can reach the col even without skis or crampons, onwards to Prašnik much harder1

How I miss the snow, which is balm for my soul, so I'm looking at these pictures to get my fix. I just came back from a walk too, since it's snowed a bit here too, so it's at least a little like winter. Otherwise the temperatures are at least somewhat similar. We'll have to go after the snow like Igorzavijanje z očmi

When it's snowing in the mountains and cold wind is blowing, Zajzera is the best choice. This time it didn't disappoint either, it was completely calm and lightly snowing.

I park at Prati Ojcinger inn, then head across meadows to the road leading under Pellarini hut or to Prašnik saddle.

There I've had a nice forest variant for years that brings me higher back to the road to Prašnik saddle. Snow increases with altitude and of course it's completely untouched. In between I get a callnasmeh, good thing, at least I stop a bit and rest. This time I trampled it, which is great for building fitness, of which there's never enoughnasmeh, you need it in the mountains and elsewhere toomežikanje.

Almost a meter of dry snow on Prašnik saddle. There I turn right, where the marked path to the nice hut goes anyway. I stop a bit, then ski down the forested ridge towards the valley. At first the abundance of powder on the gentle ridge gives some trouble, then it's just enjoyment on fresh snow dusting everything around. Below again some time on the road, then through the forest.

Beer combined with strudel went down well at the friendly Ojcinger inn (now open weekends in winter) highly recommend, the friendly successors of Ojcinger. Otherwise, 3rd degree avalanche danger in the Julians, so be careful.

If it's beautiful anywhere in winter, it's surely here.6
Wow, it has snowed a lot.7
A small disturbance on the snow and it cracks already, but it didn't slide.8
No crunching through the forest.9
Gostišče Prati Ojcinger, very friendly, they offer home-made food.10

Actually, the initial plan was just to visit the Mrzle vode valley, which then extended to the Prašnik saddle.
How many times have we driven past the Mrzla voda village and always promised to check out the Mrzle vode valley someday. Since the valley itself due to its length usually doesn't offer special starting points for tours, maybe reserve a day just for visiting the valley. And maybe further to Prašnik saddle.
So we park at the end of Mrzla voda village and walk through the forest into the valley. The first half offers no views, Kraljevska špica provides shade if we start in the morning.
Somewhere in the middle of the valley wonderful views open up. Visoka polica, Lepa glava, Krniška špica, Divja koza ... Really beautiful and solitary world.
In the head of the valley we snack and decide to continue to Prašnik saddle. The path gets steeper and zigzags to the branch towards Žabniška škrbina. The road rises a bit more, then flattens under Lastovice.
The Prašnik saddle itself is not very panoramic, so it makes sense to climb just a few meters higher towards Kamniti lovec.
To the middle of Mrzle vode valley snow is occasional. From the second half it's continuous snow all the way to Prašnik saddle. Yesterday it held well, so not even gaiters were mandatory.

Today again from Zajzera to Prašnik saddle, quite a few months have passed since the last winter, but everything is as it was, well not quite everything. Snowflakes were falling densely, the mountains fogged up, serenity, silence, but it can be so beautiful like this too.
Montaž is already in the fog1
There is snow on the road, enough for walking, not yet for skiing2

So we caught winter moments, even though it's still autumn. The path was snowy from the very beginning, but it sank a bit more only in the last part of the ascent. There was no track yet or rather there was a trace from a ski tourer which we avoided because that's the rule....only Dora used it. Snow from 10 cm to about 50-60 cm. Weather was varied, first sunny, then everything darkened, it started snowing but only for half an hour, then it cleared completely. Views of nearby and distant mountains inevitably evoke memories, respect and peace.

From Zajzera, from Ojcinger tourism, direction path 615 towards the saddle. Snow 70+, so without skis no sense. Environment fantastic, solitary, only birdsong to hear. Views of the north faces of the Poliska Špiki unparalleled.

To test new snowshoes yesterday I went to the Mrzla voda valley. It succeeded only partially as the new snow is too light, too powdery, consequently sinking with snowshoes only slightly less than without them… With a leaf blower it would definitely be easier mežikanje
But regardless it was a nice day. Initially with low clouds and fogs that later dispersed. The valley is in shade in winter, for sun you have to climb higher… Solitude in this little valley can be expected even in snow-free times, let alone in winter... When higher in the valley the sounds of the Mrzla voda stream fade, the silence is really...deafening… Only here and there a chirp or plane noise accompanied me to the head of the valley…
Up to the big feeding station – some 500 m before the first junction of marked paths – on the path (road) from Riofreddo settlement there are two or more tracks (bike tracks), so it's nicely walkable, even skiable. Higher on path 615/618 (Krniška škrbina/Prašnik) two snowshoers have trodden, but at the next path junction they continued towards Krniška škrbina or Pellarini hut. I continued through 40 cm powder towards Prašnik saddle only to the first viewpoint, sunned a bit in the first sun of the day nasmeh, had a snack and hurried back. Had to go to Trbški Spar too nasmeh
