. You know I forgot to ask about horses, didn't see them, missed them though. Otherwise our folks up there said everything re virus is arranged, e.g. every other bed empty in dorms, something like that. Were quite busy this weekend, weekdays probably not. So hit the trail even now nasmeh

Yes, virus measures are in effect and I think actual transmission chance is small. It always exists of course.
Otherwise I don't join such enthusiastic descriptions of visits to Hohe Tauern. For me really pushing through those ton-heavy wobbly blocks was quite arduous and mentally draining. Especially Blockgletscherweg between Arthur von Schmidhaus and Giessenerhütte seemed one of the most annoying paths I've done.

jax, from some descriptions I imagined it all more wobbly and was a bit worried. But near top as mentioned two options, one more scree, other over those rocks. For up we used rocky, for down more scree variant, as advised on path. Well, take those blocks into account, rest all super, really. Snow can cover much anyway.

Normal route on Säuleck not that bad. But if you go Blockgletscherweg, Buderusweg or say along ridge to Hochalmspitze, that you'll remember for sure. Very unpleasant paths.
But I want to go up again sometime and try ferrata. That probably nicer mežikanje

Today we went for views, but it was worse than I'd like, yet satisfactory. big grin

Road to starting point nicely drivable, parking 5 € or weekends 8 €, pay with coins or card.
Path to summit normally passable, lots of water, snow just a sample if you seek it. wink

It was a hot day surrounded by clouds. tongue

Towards our mountains everything was clouded over

I couldn't resist Boštjan's invitation and shortly after half past four we were driving through Karawanks tunnel. Though I'd been on this mountain years ago, little stuck in my mind. Road part elegantly done, no stops or jams. Border and tunnel handled swiftly. From Dosental parking (1450m) started at half past six. So cold I pulled gloves from backpack bottom. Soon warmed up, Boštjan has long legs. smile

First road to wide trail, sun first at Dosner farm 1975m. Flat walk then saw hut and sun over rock step. Mandatory pause with great views. Lake's blue enchants you completely. Few visitors yet, probably stayed overnight, many on way up including cute border girl from Pece area who spoke Slovenian nicely. Feared fog from yesterday's rain on summit arrival, sped up to top. Summit divine. Sweating but photographed surroundings first, then change. Fog stayed put, sky over Slovenia cloudy. Stayed on summit 10:30 to 12, took million pics. wink

At 7:30 the parking lot is still fairly empty.

At the neat rest area I eat my second banana already.

Approach valley from the edge below the hut.

Up to here almost the whole time in pleasant shade.

To Šmidova koča 2272 two hours of moderate walking.

Poor mood upon seeing the mists around its peak.

In the blue the cross on the mountain top even appeared.

Only the hut remained in my memory from the first visit, everything else...

There is extraordinarily little greenery here...

...gray prevails, but fortunately today also some blue.

We decided for path 534 on the northern side of the lake...

In millennia they adorned themselves with lichens.

Fog persistently advances from the east.

It looks like the neighbors don't like each other much.

Along the path only three snow patches spotted

At the sight of the peak I shift into fourth so fog doesn't catch me.

For the first time Hochalm Spitze 3360 appears to me

Here it is already from the mountain top.

Only to the north was the panorama fairly clear.

In the distance to the north, only strangers

The cross with a massive bench was placed a few meters aside and lower from the mountain top.

The view from the cross is better than from the top.

The lake is like on the palm of your hand,..

...and the hut and the path to it as well.

In the direction of descent to the left, a sharp ridge with the peak Grosse Goessspitze 2933m.

There is constant hustle and bustle at the top

...accessible by vehicle - probably Giessener Hütte.

I treated myself to a short break behind the hut.

Sofa behind the house, girls on the benches - at home they haven't grown up to this yet.

Right below the hut there is already sparse vegetation...

...and meanders of unfailing streamlets.

..to the full parking lot a little before four in the afternoon.

The last posts convinced me to peek beyond the borders of home mountains, so today with Janez to Säuleck. Nice tour and beautiful setting! Especially alpine pasture with countless streams like a fairy tale! If chance, I'll return!
