Thanks, Juš. I already started thinking the other day that this would probably be better.

@j., I saw the path drawn on the ttn map, older date. I haven't searched for it yet. When I went to R. Vršič, a cursory glance suggested a possible crossing to the right, but the scree from afar didn't look easily passable. That's how it is with these peaks, sometimes they go, sometimes only partially or not at all.
Congratulations on the completed tripnasmeh.

Thanks, Pastirica. But this passage (if it exists or not) could be quite a challenge. With plenty of time reserve for exploration and at the right moment of course nasmeh. If I checked correctly, it should go right just behind the nice viewpoint that both Palček (pic 7) and I (pic 6) photographed.
According to your map one should turn right at the last bend...1

Yes, about 10 min more uphill, then the path turns left, in front of you is the wall anyway. First, according to the map, it even descends 20 vm, so you could start a bit lower too.

In the afternoon it looked nicest in Gorenjska so I drove to Gozd Martuljek. It's been a long time since I walked there and headed to Rutarski Vršič. Above the stream in the steep forest section there's some fallen trees. After a while the path goes from the top along the ridge towards Kukova Špica, as long as time allows, stopped at one summit, looked around....and slowly back. Below Za Ak heard a deer, to the bivouac and back to GM.

On Saturday with Blue and Nessy I enjoyed the pristine wilderness of Martuljek - past Skočniki we headed to the unpopulated Rutarski Vršič. We descended the other side, to Za Ak, where we refresh well in the ice-cold water, at Ingota we fortify ourselves with excellent sour milk and žganci. Then on the bike path with rollers back to the car.
From Skočniki on the path is still well visible, around the fallen trees detours are made, which you notice if you're at least a bit pathfinder or have a pathfinder dog with you velik nasmeh But I was surprised that on the descent from the top there was also a lot of fallen wood, much more than on my last visit. Detours made here too, cairns help.
Definitely a trip that's real balm for the soul and body nasmeh

Rutarski Vršič - circular from Ingo's planina (Planina Jesenje)

If you head there from the valley and make a circular tour from Martuljek or from Beli Potok, it can already be a day trip, but if you start from Ingota, for such a circular path you spend over 5 hours, of course assuming you know this path (no signs or markings) at least approximately.

Our – shortened version: up from Finžgarjeva kapelica and along the traverse under the rocky edge, down along the PP-VI section to the Za Ak cirque.

The little path in the traverse is a bit overgrown, but still well followable among the brushwood. At the »right turn« from the traverse to the top, when you join the path from Beli Potok, you need to look around a bit more. The descent to the cirque currently has quite some obstacles - lots of fallen trees that sometimes a bit disrupt path orientation, otherwise no other peculiarities, not many rocks either. This more or less shady tour is in summer heat a real balm for soul and body.
when the weather over Martuljek unexpectedly deteriorates, it's not smart to rush onto the ridges1

Today I parked at the railway bridge and went towards Rutarski Vršič. I took the little dog with me, but in the increasingly deep snow it sank too much, so above Skočniki I decided to turn back.

So the day wouldn't go to waste, I changed my goal and on the way down turned towards planina Zaprete, from there towards Glava, circled it and descended to Finžgarjeva kapela, returned to Gozd Martuljek and then jogged back along the cycling path to the bridge.

With some breaks and exploring and searching, the whole thing stretched to 8 hours. I already knew the path to Beli potok from before and there were no peculiarities there. Between the turn-off for Zaprete and all the way to the chapel, orientation was much more demanding, as in the snow-covered forest you could only occasionally make out where the path runs, the terrain is quite varied, forest everywhere and sometimes fallen trees too, and if you go a bit too far from the path, you can stray quite a bit in the wrong direction and cluelessly grope at the wrong end. At some places there are some sprayed markings on trees, but you can't rely on that too much.

The tour was pure romance, complete peace reigned in the forest, from the turn-off for Zaprete in the BP valley to the chapel there were no human traces. From above the bushes the Martuljek giants occasionally watched me and from steep walls occasionally smaller avalanches could be heard. Atmosphere-wise this was definitely one of the better tours I've done lately. I hope to repeat it sometime in similar conditions and then in the same go also visit Smrajka.

From the parking lot along the cycling path between Podkužami and Gozd Martuljek to planina Smrajka, from there across the northern ridge of Votlega Slemena to Skočniki, onwards to Rutarski Vršič and along the transverse path to Ingota and back to the parking lot.

At Lešnikov graben with some fresh tree falls in the forest track I got a bit orientationally tangled, but after crossing the stream bed on the other side I discovered a poorly visible path and quite a few cairns.

At about 1000 meters the path forked, I followed the traverse to the left, the right seemed to go into a precipice. Through low bushes it initially climbed steeply upwards, a bit steep but nothing special, then turned right roughly towards the hunting hut. About 200 m higher it seemed to me to be going too much upwards. So I descended slightly and happily stumbled upon a path before the overgrown scree, which led me through the scree and across a dry stream bed to the hut. Well, almost to it, when I should have been there, the path disappeared, and I was gaping around like a fool where the hut could be. And it was, about 15 meters behind my back.

From the hut towards planina Smrajka, which is about 500m away, there are two paths. The first roughly in the area of the smaller ridge (Glava, 1199 m), starting above the hut, and the second through the overgrown valley and then along the torrent bed and then right out of it. I walked the first for a while and past young beeches continued on the second. The path appeared occasionally, then disappeared again. There was no sign of the planina, only in the forest I found a dug clay pit with a puddle, which I assumed collected water for livestock from the planina times.

The path, which becomes visible again in the forest above the planina, led right across a rocky slide and back into the forest, which thinned gradually. A bit further at the end of a small clearing I came upon a salt lick, followed by less than two hundred meters of traversing and I was already standing on the northern ridge of Votlega Slemena. Exactly there where on the other side the path down the gully leads to the hunting hut above Skočniki, left an arrow and dot point upwards to the path along the ridge to Votlo Sleme.

The world there is magnificent, wild and lonely. Right at the saddle is a small rocky hillock, perhaps once even a hunting stand, all around green larch and undergrowth. The path down the gully to the hunting hut was not demanding, just due to the steepness had to watch a bit. And in the upper part of the gully it gets lost here and there.

From the forest edge above the gully I spotted the hunting hut. And of course the severe blowdown caused by the wind a few years ago. I descended to the hut roughly through the middle of the blowdown, there it seemed easiest to me.

To Rutarski Vršič from here it's very comfortable. It starts in the forest at the remains of a bench by the stream bed, the path elegantly zigzags through the forested slopes at a suitable gradient. Not marked but indicated with orange arrows and dots. If I was somewhat worried in the slopes above Smrajka that I'd hit a landslide or tree blowdown that would hinder or even prevent continuation, here I was carefree. But it started soon enough. About 10 minutes from the bench I met the first tree fallen across the path. Hop over it. Then after a couple minutes the second, hop again and a bit of scratching on the bark, then the third... At the thirtieth I stopped counting. But these unfortunates have an interesting characteristic: their mighty trunks are not felled in one area, but randomly, sometimes every five meters, sometimes every hundred. Just the right distribution to kill the walking pace.

At the top of Vršič, as once before, a little tree in the shape of a scarecrow awaited me...

I descended along the eastern ridge, parallel to the ascent path. The little path there is exceptionally beautiful, a real hunting one, and leads along steep, vividly green grass and a lively varied ridgelet with aesthetically arranged ancient fallen larches. At the flat area (Robičeva planina) barely traceable it turns left and down into the northern slopes of Vršič. Right across the planina probably possible to cross to the path I ascended.

After some cairns the path disappeared, but soon I hit it again, it became nicely visible. And that's good, since further on it crosses quite a few gullies, and some bushy areas too, and finding passages without a path would go much slower, if at all.

Up and down through passages, gullies and scree are nice but drag a bit. Roughly in the middle of the traverse a narrow scree slopes down into the valley towards Glava 1243m. Under it apparently a path through the forest straight to Ingota. I don't know the path, if it exists. I thought a bit but decided to continue the traverse towards Zgornji Martuljek waterfall, where the path in zigzags descends into the valley above the precipitous steepness. The punishment for not obeying the exploratory urge didn't take long. Right in the steepest part it poured like from a bucket, in panic I wrapped the phone in the bag so it wouldn't get wet, then on the damp, not very trodden path soaking wet to the skin extremely carefully descended, while about two hundred meters lower the waterfall threateningly roared with all its might.

At Ingota the water pumps are still working at full power. To the car less than six kilometers, the last part I walked along the path under the hill on the right bank of Sava. I chose that because I thought the tree shade would protect me from the afternoon sun on the way back. But nothing came of it, as from the trees above my head on the gloomy rainy afternoon it just - dripped.

Four walked hunting paths lead through one of the loneliest parts of our Julijci. None of them is technically particularly demanding, discounting climbing over fallen trees nasmeh. But in many places you need to slow the pace and step carefully. The path(s) around the former planina Smrajka is orientationally quite demanding. When wandering there it's always good to know where you are currently and where you're headed.

Nice, one of those explorations that can be unreservedly called 'par excellence'.

Palčica, many thanks! But I think “par excellence” belongs primarily to those who found these passages who knows how many years or perhaps centuries ago, logically connected them and with great effort built and maintained the paths. And left us a unique heritage that unfortunately slowly disappears before our eyes.

Safe travels on your paths!

Yesterday I climbed to Rutarski Vršič past Krnica Za Akom. I haven't been in these beautiful parts for a few years, so my pace in the Rutah relative to other hikers - most of whom turned towards the lower waterfall - looked somehow at 45 rpm compared to their 33 nasmeh

At the hut at Jasenju, which was closed yesterday, I soon headed to the chapel and crossed the stream to the marked path, where new views awaited me, as there is now a large clearing due to the windthrow. Due to the new conditions, I somehow lost my orientation for a few moments nasmeh

The path to Za Akom was without problems, and the outdoor fireplace at the bivouac also obviously often "operates".

After enjoying the views on the screes, I descended to the lower edge of the cirque and headed towards Vršič into the forest. In previous years it was a pleasant walk, but now - apparently due to fewer visits in recent years - one has to make more effort to follow the path in its lower, "leafy" part. There are quite a few fallen trees along the path, including one major windthrow that requires attention when searching for the path, which is, however, in the larger part nicely "cairned". When the trail is covered by needles, there are no orientation problems, and there is no snow anymore either.

First I went to the viewpoint, then to the summit of Vršič, and returned to the valley by the same path. A warm and sunny Martuljek day.
