Once I also plan to go to Ruš, and I'm interested where that starting point from the first picture is, since I'm almost a local but it's not quite clear to me. Thanks. lp

Yesterday to Ruš some km below the Rezman farm (road in poor condition, steep). Due to soaked, rotten terrain change of plan and ascent from the easier side. Most of the upper part is overgrown pathless terrain, in wet dangerous for slipping. Ascent good hour and a half, peace and solitude. I'll return maybe sometime along NE ridge. Some additional info on conditions also in pictures.

To Ruš along NE ridge I set off from Rezman. Already on the way to Močnikovo sedlo there is quite some fallen trees on the path, later there were really a lot. I followed the described route from hribi.net to the end of the forest road, where a path should turn towards Sp. Ruš. I didn't find it (most likely chose the end of the wrong forest road), but continued in its direction, northwards. After good ten minutes crossing over fallen trunks, rocky ground and coniferous slope, I headed up the slope and via pathless terrain reached the ridge, which I followed to the top. The ridge is overgrown, but at larches on its precipitous edge there open nice views to Košuta and continuation of Karavanke and surrounding peaks. Individual parts of the ridge offer quiet, hidden spots, at once so far and so close to this world… At the top surprises a bench with logbook. Descent to marked path (Pri Lojtri or Fevča) along SW ridge of Ruš is hindered by numerous fallen trees, but I was quickly at the markings. From there onwards on the path running on southern slopes of Ruš there is huge amount of fallen trees, mostly spruces. At two places real fields of this windthrow - the path where I was for the first time, I barely followed, so many trees I haven't crossed in my life Larger "fallen field" is a bit above Močnikovo sedlo, but the direction of the path can be guessed. Markings are solid.

Hočo, yes super hike for lovers of peace in the mountains I like going to these parts, as it seems to me there's some special energy here. Given that Kozji vrh is similar height to Ruš, no major snow drifts to expect. Below the summit on the north side you can see there's still snow, but I doubt it'll be a problem, as it's rotten and soft. Probably worrying about that last steep part, but I think no panic, it'll be fine without issues.

This Saturday I tackled the NE ridge from the base, from Komatevri. I headed off-trail at the old, collapsing farmhouse and through almost marshy forest reached the stream confluence, which I crossed and climbed into the steep slope that was very "loose" below due to moisture, higher up less of that terrain.. To avoid the very steep cliffs I'd reach in the direct line of the northern ridge section, I took some good game trails to SE, where I reached the "proper" ridge. As Trobec already describes, it's really a mix of broken, snapped and overgrown... You can avoid the more demanding terrain lower down on both sides, higher up mainly on the left side of the ridge. From the summit I initially planned a longer loop on logging trails/roads around Veliki vrh above Komatevri, but due to approaching darkness, visibility worsening with "Sahara dust haze", I opted for a shortcut to the road leading to the northern base of Ruš. With about 100m descent I started from elevation 1469 (reached via the first logging trail from Ruš base heading north) first on a nice path, but slippery snow hid it on the grass, so I descended through nasty scree terrain (mud, gravel, rocks) and soon reached the road. But one shortcut wasn't enough so I took another, well-marked on PZS map but as it turned out soon, very overgrown old logging trails, crossed here and there by streams... Well, soon back on the road and later at the car, which I left a bit below the turnoff to partisan hospital Krtina. No snow on Ruš ridge anymore, but still quite some on the mentioned logging trails toward Veliki vrh. Quiet day – despite the rustling of wind, forest, streams and other waters – silent.
