I'm not from Ljubljana, but from Notranjska. So I already have 45 minutes to Ljubljana and my first bus is only at 6.00. Nothing works for me. I just wanted to know if there's really no (direct) bus from Ljubljana (from 6.45 onwards with as little waiting as possible) to Kamniška Bistrica, because this changing is "too much" for me. Already last time from Rateče 7h was more tiring and stressful than it sounds.
Physically I can't be in Ljubljana earlier. I know the search engines. I thought there might be some secret bus in between...

I've decided for Julijce. Logistically easiest, just won't have enough tur. No more ideas where to go without repeating.
No transport to Bovec or in Kranjska Gora I always miss by a couple minutes, no transport to Rabelj, but the Špik ridge and Corsija area tempts me for years... Bavški Grintavec via Muzce tempts me... to explore Trentarske walls and Loška stena I can only dream about in the current situation.

Communicate with as many people as possible and get to know them, especially from your area, since lots of people go hiking. With your age, mountains in the Julians won't run out for you anytime soon.

What about a PD in your area. Arrange to just get a ride with them there and back, pay something for transport of course, then in that mountain group they're going to, find a suitable peak you do alone. Sometimes PD bus isn't full and they'd profit too.

Lijaneja, soon I'll be left only with peaks like Rušica, Vrh Rokavskega grebena, Široka peč, Germlajt or Prevčev stolp... and those unreachable by bus...
Turbo, sadly no good PD nearby. Just retirees who don't go beyond huts in Notranjska or Primorska.
Already now 2.5h ride and not even in Kranj yet...

Yes, transport without a car to the desired mountain goal is a class of its own. Yesterday we three "pensioners" as they call us wanted to Bohinj then Peč, Rudnica and loop around the lake. Already at home station we saw we won't get the bus (already late) with over 50 schoolkids waiting for Gorenjska! How full by our stop was unknown but giving priority to kids we knew no chance. Quick to train station luckily catch train. Off in Lesce wait 1h for late bus again. Only us three and foreign tourists. Finally Bohinj at 9.30 already warm. Shortened tour after coffee to 12.40 bus we miss (lots foreigners). It just didn't come! Wait for 13h bus 10min late from Ukanc to Lake. Goes highway past our town. Still board (southern neighbor driver very unfriendly). Plan off Kranj another bus or Šentvid back. Check trains off Lesce train home enjoy ice cream. Not only case, to Uskovnica from Lj hard shuttle 5min before bus plus delays. TIC Bled said public transport own schedule they have theirs! Forced with husband to Rudno polje own car. So much for big promises public transport even if want often not possible.

A bit of comfort... the late Franček Knez apparently never had a car license either, yet on a world scale one of those with the most alpine ascents 
True though... back then public transport worked much better and of course there was more collegiality (comradeship).
P.S. our pensioners (PD Sežana) are quite "wild"; no problem, they go on tours announced as 10 hours of walking. But really specific things - ZZ off-trail, I think no PD organizes. Too much risk for the club and guides...

Life in the mountains without a car is hard. After 20 years, to go once on foot to the shop for 1kg flour and yeast. There 2.30 hours I'd need, if I go really fast through the forest. Everything has gone much worse. Back then you could at least ride a moped, no need to register it or have a license. Rode it for years almost 7 km one way, even 2 shops a couple of 2-3km away and they sent me home on moped for some small thing.
If you're sick today, and without a car, because say you can't afford it, you're practically on the edge of everything.
Today first normal shop 11km in the valley, the closer one has everything +30% more expensive.
To the family doctor you go only for referrals, medications and further check-ups are 30km away and parking fees are 1.20 euros/hour.
Getting someone for some transport is impossible, everyone has their own needs and excuses....
You can't ride a moped, because you have to reg. it and have a license. Police are also already in the villages.
Public transport is the same as 20-30 years ago, nothing better.
Our municipality, state... boast how people are taken care of, everything better and it works makes you puke.

Rokeg, what if you try two-day tours? Overnight in hut or bivvy, winter room?
To Kamn. Bistrica e.g. afternoon bus. In Dom v KB currently can't overnight because renovating, what about higher up? Later when huts close, free in winter room.
