Yesterday we climbed up to Raskovec in beautiful sunny weather, the highest peak of the eastern part of the Lower Bohinj Mountains.
We ascended to the summit via Planina Suha and Rodica summit, descended off-trail to Planina Poljana.

For interest, let me mention that Raskovec is 10 meters lower than the highest Rodica (1966m), i.e. 1956m, marked on the latest Julijci map. LPP-Rok.

Today we ascended via Planina Poljana to Konto Matajurc and further towards Veliki Raskovec. Snow remains only in deep hollows and in places on shady northern slopes.
We also climbed Mali Raskovec and back pathless to Poljana.
Enjoyed the peace all the time cool

Yesterday we visited Veliki Raskovec.
From Planina Poljana via Konto Matajurc to the traverse Črna prst - Vogel. Below V. Raskovec we left the path and climbed to the summit over grass.
We descended between Mali Raskovec and Novi vrh (Suho Rodica) into snowy valleys Dole, from there to the hunting hut at Glin.
The area is incredibly peaceful, lonely and wild nasmeh

. Snow still lies in all hollows.
From Glin back to Planina Poljana and to the road to the car.

Today's goal was Raskovec, Matajurski & Poljanski vrh, skiing from all three, but it turned out differently. Before Lescami I got a rain shower and the sky was cloudy over Bohinj. I called my colleague to check the cameras if there's more clarity somewhere. Since not, I waited a bit at the gas station, then went anyway and around Triglav it started clearing. When I drove into Laški Rovt on macadam, it looked clear. With the car one can drive 2km further from the parking for Suha, then about 20 min walk to the forest branch. The path is visible for a while, when snow starts it becomes a problem. I was here years ago, according to the description one needs to keep more left for pl. Poljana, but I went obviously too right and came under Gradovec, only scree, looked at Raskovec and other peaks, had to descend back to the forest and find the path to Poljana. This adventure and searching for a passage tires me, so I decided for Poljanski vrh. Snow is so soft that no crampons needed, from the south fog starts rolling in, nothing from the desired trio. Skiing on slush is OK due to steepness, don't feel like going back up, so today for me more a day for walking and orientation. From the planina need to keep left again and although no visible path again, I managed to reach the road, of which I'm very glad. Adventure ends at Danica and observing beautiful Bohinj Mountains.. mežikanje

From Planina Poljana to Veliki and then to Mali Raskovec.
Descent along the ridge of Mali Raskovec. Brush looks impassable, but nice passages can be found.
Enthusiastically arrived back above Planina Poljana nasmeh

Yesterday via Planina Poljana to Veliki Raskovec. Above the pasture we climbed into Matajurc cirque from which we reached the traverse Vogel - Črna prst.
Below V. Raskovec we left the path and went directly up steep southern slopes to the summit.
Plan was also to visit neighboring Mali Raskovec but weather was dull gray, luckily no fog and we descended north side into cirque below Veliki Raskovec, from there to Planina Poljana and road to car.
Snow is record low this year. Only traces in most shaded slopes and hollows.

It's kind of our habit to visit Raskovec when the last snow patches adorn the southern Bohinj mountains.
Again first to Planina Poljana, where snow has obviously just melted. Continued to Gradovec, where now a path is cut through dense brush. Also cut at the summit itself, which is really panoramic (picture below).
From the summit we eyed Mali Raskovec and decided to go there straight over the snowfield on the north side. Snow held well allowing nice steps up the steep slope overgrown with brush in summer. Arrived at the ridge to the hunting trail that led us to the summit. Summit is bare.
Continued to Veliki Raskovec, but due to fog and clouds it offered no special views.
Back via Matajurc cirque, into which we "skied" on boots and continued on snow all the way to Planina Poljana.

We like to head to Raskovec every year.
As usual via Planina Poljana. Road to parking below Planina Suha and further about 2 km is now drivable unmarked path. Fallen trees removed, branches and rocks too.
In Matajurc cirque still quite some snow, frozen solid in the morning. Obviously despite high temps Matajurc cirque remains a frost pocket.
Traverse between Črna prst and Vogel looks fine. Some snow tongues visible below Matajurski vrh north side. But a group of hikers came over off-trail.
Raskovec is bare, same for a few meters lower Mali Raskovec which we also visited.
Return straight along ridge of Mali Raskovec to Planina Poljana, where hunters cut some brush so descent is possible. Some minor orientation zigzags mežikanje

Except for the group from Rodica to Črna prst met no one nasmeh

Yesterday again on Veliki Raskovec. Up from Poljana via Matajurc, down the "winter" variant into cirque below Veliki Raskovec and on to Poljana.
Nice day for mountains. Some fog play and no wind. Most valuable was the peace nasmeh

On Saturday to Veliki Raskovec. Ascent from Rut via Jakarjev pesek, then along SPP to Rodica and descent back to Rut. This team was mainly interested in botany. Good thing no more changing films in cameras, otherwise personal bankruptcy.
Jakarjev pesek is off-trail. Rest is normally passable. Also Rut - Rodica path newly cleared. But logbook at Rodica is full and awaits replacement.

When we want to avoid crowds and there are many now in Bohinj Mountains, we head to favorite Veliki Raskovec.
Via Planina Poljana to Matajurc cirque and over scree to "traverse" Črna prst - Vogel.
On path only briefly, then to summit of Veliki Raskovec.
Still huge colorful flowers all along the route.

Off-trail to Raskovec. Started at former parking in Rutaski gozd. Or about 15 min walk at barrier in right track. Along track 5 min, then left up where sparse trees. Higher walked left side between brush and beech forest. Followed chamois trail into brush and scree. And already on proper off-trail. Up scree, left gully then right. Variant left easier too. On ridge fog appeared, light wind, just right, go to Raskovec. Due to fog check meteo satellite image if storm approaching and nothing. Descend and continue to Rodica. After break, slow descent.

Yesterday we were on Mali Raskovec.
Via Planina Poljana continued towards valley below Veliki Raskovec and before valley turned to path to Mali Raskovec. It's a hunting path, on which we missed direction a few times through mostly cut brush. Dangerous snow in cirques, hollow underneath.
Summit 10 m lower than neighboring Veliki Raskovec, views the same.
Back only part on same path, then free "à la Prešeren" finding passages to valley below Veliki Raskovec, where snow still lies.

From Planina Poljana followed trail towards Planina Suha. At junction continued left on poorly marked and harder to follow trail to Matajurc cirque. Before cirque turned right and via steep grass and scree with easy scrambling reached eastern ridge of peak. Along ridge no problems to summit. No views, as fog pushed from Grape. Descended NW slope and then up steep grass to Mali Raskovec. Descent along S and NE ridge to start is quite bushy but decently cleared.
