Promontana

Hi, I came across news that some Slovenian mountain shops are in the red due to poor business and on the verge of closing. I'm mainly thinking of Promontana, and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it, because I think it's really a shame if such shops close....

I'm not surprised, their offer is overpriced, prices are skyrocketing.
People ultimately also don't have 500 euros for a jacket and pants.

No wonder! If you check American online shops a bit, you'll see that a thing costing 100 USD there costs 100 EUR retail here. American firms I'd kinda get, but I don't get why our European brands sell there for half the price than in Europe.jezen

Of course they'll flop if they keep inflated prices like this. I work in a shop, know how it is. Real price of a 500 eur jacket there is around 50 eur. Colleague trekking in Himalayas says very very cheap there, few euros for known brands. Europe is the priciest, prices inflated to milk us, and it will stay that way until we resist or stop being consumer sheep (as soon as something is on sale, folk almost tramples).

Yes, jackets are cheap from known brands there, but they are fakes. I also have one at home, bought in Kathmandu. It's a fake of a known brand, but still excellent.

@kopron, obviously you've been there. What gear selection is there in Kathmandu? I'm still missing some things, don't know whether to buy here or there. Maybe some personal experiences, what must-have and what not? And to not hijack the topic, can also PM.
