PP 3: Vratica-Korenske police-Vovovje-V. Mavrinc

Today, Domn and I hiked another section of the Planica-Pokljuka trail, namely the Korenske ledges in the north face of Robičja. The day didn't promise good weather, but in the end it turned out that at least we wouldn't get wet... That was sufficient reason to head beyond Vratica to PP 3. Threatening clouds over Prisank hinted at the worst, but in the end it turned out that the dog that barks doesn't bite. We walked dry across the first ledge, found the passage to the second ledge at the green promontory, descended from KP, climbed to Vovovje and treated ourselves to two beers at Mavrinc. On the ledges we were in complete wilderness, completely alone. KP are really for the soul, the only pity is they're so short, exposure is phenomenal. Although Mihelič writes in his description to take a rope for this stage, Domn and I stuck to the old school and didn't take it, of course. Otherwise, no problem "over the two", which it isn't. It only annoys me that there's a piton with a sling for descent at the top! Although some write that the ledges are poorly marked, I must say there are only 7 PP dots.... The others were apparently erased by a smart person because they really aren't needed. But the ledges are a bigger orientation challenge than PP 2 Gamsove riže. You need a good "nose", orientation in the right place and no fear of height, exposure and climbing the presumed two downwards... Anyway, regardless of the weather, tour to repeat (many times). Nicest on KP is... Ah, go yourselves and earn the rest of the answer. Cheers from PP Domen and Juš When you see how the ledges are routed, you know why DV and UZ named them "real chamois passages".

Again on PP3 Vratica-Korenske police-Vovovje-Mavrinc-Krnica, this time again in good company ... Discovering "secrets of uncle UROŠ and uncle DUŠAN". Interesting fact that since 11.06.2011 only one entry recorded, and even that one (of three, one) I know , third this year again mine. Ha, what else to add? Through in less than two hours, we climbed the double both rikverc (peg there completely senseless...). From Vovovje this time did PP to Mavrinc (previous hike path disappeared under feet and I scrambled to hunter's from KNG) I'd add that enthusiasm is exceptional over PP (you know who I mean ) so we decided (on Mavrinc already at half past 11!!!), to nip to Planica and do PP1 too. From Ovčja side but it just wouldn't! Anyway, super, so super that we're going tomorrow "to check" above Pišnica... Timings: Erjavčeva-Vratica 20min Vratica-Vovovje 2h 15min Vovovje-Mavrinc 20min Skakalnice-Ovčja side 1h 20min Ovčja side-Tamar 1h When you have enough marked paths, switch to off-trail, when off-trail no longer challenge, switch to PP. You won't regret. Respect this exceptional heritage given to us. Not about popularizing PP, but just so you know it exists there. Not long ago got email... Thanks to you PP this year will be (s)hiked more than it was in previous 30 years. That's biggest reward for me. Worth more than all my ascents on "marks". For you privilege, that maybe some of you hikes it... Regards, Pipi duo To next stage...

Thanks for discoveries. Didn't know it even exists, that it's real. S5 I won't sleep, adrenaline does its, when reading and watching this. Some off-trails I've done, some planning and surely true, it's another world. PP certainly remains for the chosen, I think. LP

This trail is understandably and rightly hard to describe, so..., everything legendary Tine wrote in Northern Approaches still holds true, but you fully understand the description only after hiking PP3... ... so just some pics from yesterday..., well yeah, for the first time orientation is quite complicated..., admit, at the beginning before entering the real ledge I got a bit tangled..., and the descent into the ugly gully wasn't nice either..., then I spotted the saving dot... but I reached the goal anyway, extremely satisfied...

Like my predecessor, yesterday I also got tangled at the beginning , but that way I found an unknown path to me, which needs to be explored to the end. ... all ledges beautiful, walked without issues, but since there was so much hinting at beer, right SilvestrO, I treated myself to it at Vovovje saddle too . Couldn't find continuation on hunter's path at end of scree, so I took transversely under Robičja walls to 17th bend...

Yesterday after work to the ledges. It's strange because the last entry in the "book" is 25.09.2013 We approached via the upper variant. Over BP, snow rather eases walking. At Vavovje we were in under two hours. At Firer the same... What I think about the cutting I've already written. Good thing some don't find the entrance to the ledges!

Today I took Branko, a friend from Litija, to the ledges. He was thrilled with the ledges and the ambience, less so with the friability. The logbook is in place, now it's even in a bag. Korenske ledges are really a typical stage with all PP elements. It was a nice morning that ended at Dani's.

This afternoon I blasted the PP3 stage. But I found Korenske ledges and reached the logbook, the pages were full so I tore the cover from today's (ouch!) bought Triglav 1:25000 map, signed it and added it to the cairn. After the logbook it got stuck. Somewhere there where the logbook is hidden, according to Mihelič continue on the "lower ledge" to the "nice promontory". From the top wall check I found at least two candidates for that lower ledge, both seemed so dangerous that I thought it can't be that. So I climbed down, a bit more down, even more down... Exposure was big, also friability, but passages were found... After a while I knew I was too low per the description (Mihelič says 12m descent), but since nowhere on the way down I noticed convincing continuations forward, I still tried downward. In between ledges appeared several times raising hope, but they led nowhere. In the end I found myself just a few meters above the scree, but turned back up because it smelled of even harder climbing and I didn't want to risk (even more). Time was flying by... I climbed back to the book and thought about continuing. I was haunted by the feeling that I missed something obvious, but I don't know what. Maybe when climbing down I went a bit too much back relative to the traverse direction, instead forward, and maybe that's why I didn't find the continuation... but in reality I don't know what I did wrong. I didn't notice the promontory anywhere during the descent either, but I didn't worry much about it because it could be hidden behind a bend. Time ran out, night was close, goal far, and I turned back. All warnings for this stage hold true, maybe even some are too few.

Today PP3 (on 2nd try and with Juš's hint - thanks Juš!) succeeded fully! Crazy nice. Such beautiful passages, in such forgotten places, just a stone's throw from the crowds. Priceless. Promontory a bit further from the log sheets is nicely visible, so it doesn't matter where you go down - in any case you know where to arrive. I let myself down on the rope from the spot where the sling for descent is ready. Hardest for me were the last 20m in steep scree - before the promontory with larches (which separates 1st and 2nd part of the ledges). It seemed to me that even left among larches the scree wouldn't be any less dense.
