Poludnig (1999 m)

Today I ticked off another mountain peak in my Carnic Alps wanderings. I had tried it in winter before, but with those conditions (tons of snow) it was definitely too far from Italy. This time I leisurely drove up the Gail Valley to Hermagor and then on an interesting mountain road to Egger Alm and a bit further towards Dellacher Alm. I parked about halfway between the two alms at the western end of the now frozen Brško Lake. I went straight across the hummocky meadows (such as on Zasipska Planina, and also found in Zadnjica) then up through the forest, where I reached the road and later the marked path leading to Poludnig Alm (1708 m). Snow was barely a trace. From the alm I went a few hundred meters along the asphalt access road to the fenced parking lot, then along the marked NE ridge path to the summit. Nice sunny weather, light breeze and great views. At the top I was there too soon, followed a short stop with views of the familiar peaks around, then descended via NW ridge or marked path and returned to the car past Brško Lake. Since the easy circular tour wasn't too long I used the time and drove to Dolska Planina, then back to the valley and over Mokrine Pass back to Italy and home. Recommended snow-free for not too demanding touring cyclists as well as hikers with children. On the alms there are numerous weekend houses as well as inns.

a-ha, just like that; hi, I/we were at the top mid-October, it was lightly snowing, a little wind was blowing, cloudy around but quite a nice autumn tour, we left the car at the first parking lot and turned right on the white road between weekend houses already to Egger Alm (sign) and then on the path on the north-west edge to the top, we went back a bit on the same path (descent about 150 m) and turned right on the marked path as it goes under the top to Dellacher Alm (your second pic from the start), here we got a path with old red marks as it turns towards west and probably the same as the one you came up to the lake and across the meadows almost to the car (almost = we made a small "pit stop" at Gasthaus ZUM RUDI); then back towards home, of course still one small "pit stop" in Hermagor at the confectionery KANDOLF (at least it's not a tour if then there's no some pit stop for a wish). Nice regards. Ciao.

Alessio, small correction: from the top you went to Poludnig Alm, Dellacher Alm is lower, but the "pit stop" is nice to me, I think it was even open at Rudi's, but no thirst, lp.

Today was a perfect autumn day... even the fog stayed deep in the valley. From Brška planina, where we left the car, we climbed the NW ridge to the top of Poludnig. Under the wooden cross it was calm, warm and we took time for a snack and looked around all sides. We descended the NE ridge to Poludniška planina and continued for a while on path no.408. Then at the sign for Brška planina, turned west and as alessio described above, followed the red markers that brought us to Brško Lake, which was already covered with a thin ice crust. Then just a walk to the inn PRI RUDIJU, where we warmly concluded today's nice tour ...with cold drinks of course.

As befits a mountain that marks noon for someone in the valley, we arrived at the cross on the summit exactly at noon. So many views that we could spend the whole afternoon identifying the peaks worth throwing an eye and organizational will at. We dropped our heads below 2000 and lounged in the warm grass and quietly cursed the fog we had to return to willy-nilly. Poisonous cold in the shade, but still autumn in the sun. Some brave Italians were already walking on Brško Lake.

Through the Ukve valleys I drive to the farm tourism Rosič. Then with skis along the road to the saddle at Mrzli Vodnjak. Followed a very long descent along the road and some through the forest to Kesselwald (1400). Followed an unmarked ascent past some hut on the SE slope of Poludnig all the way to the eastern ridge, where I joined the marked path 408 which leads up from Poludniška Planina. The ridge was quite windblown, so I had quite some trouble walking with skis, well skiing in the upper part wasn't great either, lower down there was still quite a bit of powder on grassy base. From the lowest point I turned to Goričanska planina, and then crossed under Konjščica back to Mrzli Vodnjak and down to Ukve, "skied" to the car, still missing about 30 cm of snow. For non-knowers the description is of course too skimpy, actually it's about huge distances that you can only cover in reasonable time with skis.

To "squeeze in" among the masterful and grandiose ones a simple, short and sweet one (yes, we had chocolate with usmežikanje), which we came up with on Sunday, for the last day of potato holidays. It almost falls into the category "more driving than walking", but in the end we agreed it was worth every kilometer and every drop of gasoline. We can't boast about anything else but that it was nice… Larches on the alms caught in the most beautiful colors, views were great, hikers just "a sample", the circular path option that always makes the tour even nicer and more interesting.

P.S. I believe current conditions are already different and will be even more so in the coming days, so let the pics be just an invitation for next autumn, if not sooner nasmeh.

Since 2014 no new post here. Well, retirees – Thursday hikers PD Škofja Loka went to conquer this so desired Poludnik – 1999 meters high. Quite some turns to drive on mountain asphalted road to parking before Brško planina – Egger Alm – 1422 m. Then across this pasture uphill to the mountain. Path is quite steep and doesn't ease up to the top. Middle part runs through clearing on border Austria – Italy. Border marked by boundary stones. Spacious summit with cross awaits. Down along eastern ridge past Poludniška planina – Poludniger Alm – 1710m and past Dolska planina – Dellacher Alm – 1365m and past Brško jezero – Egger Alm-See – 1399 m. At that time almost no water.
At the parking lot before Brška planina-Egger Alm.1
In this I would say high mountain plateau three beautiful alpine pastures are located.2
Up we go across Brška planina -1422m.3
From Brška planina to the top of Poludnik we have two hours of walking ahead of us.4
Brška planina is the largest among all three planins. Mainly these are weekends. There is also a cekvica, a dairy and even a guesthouse that is open all winter.5

Today a short and sweet tour above Brško planina. Vacation in Gail Valley spiced up with a family trip to this beautiful planina, I quickly hopped to Poludnik and joined "mom" at the lake via circular path.

The path is pleasant, steep, you quickly reach the summit slope and enjoy views that really enchanted me. Dobrač, Stol, Storžič, Kukova špica, Škrlatica, Triglav, Kanjavec, Ponce, Mangart, Jalovec, Bavški grintavec, Montaževa group, Zuc dal Bor, Monte Chiavalas, Grauziara, Sernio, mokrinw and surrounding peaks, dolomites and high tours. Really great! Descent to Poludnik pasture and back to Brska. It was so nice to hear the accordion here, but it's been a long time no mežikanje

I see that the whole year there was no post under this title. This time Pondeljkovci - retirees section PD Škofja Loka went to these parts of Carnic Alps really just these pastures under Poludnik. Five years ago I was here with Četrkovci - on Poludnik. When I looked back at the posts I hardly believed there were so many of us. Also this time with several vans. Our biggest van had to adjust at least one turn downhill. Went via Trbiž - no real life noticeable here anymore. Return also not better looking. But note on Monday most inns closed. Also we after long time no hot lunch in inn. Drive past Moderndorf village, past entrance to Garnittenklamm gorge and on narrow winding road to big parking at Brška planina - Egger Alm - 1422m - hairpins marked like ours to Vršič. Then across wide grassy plateau, past Brško jezero - Eggeralmsee - 1399m. Past Italy border. Return on road to start. Walk past interesting hummocky meadows like old mine excavation. Reach Dellacher Alm - Dolska planina - 1365m. Then only half group to Poludniška planina - Poludniger Alm - 1708m. Up on path under road - return on road. Really nice. Had nice autumn weather. Larches already slightly autumn colored.
Up to the parking lot at Brška planina along a narrow poor road.1
Hairpins -of course there are few- but they are numbered.2
Starting point.3
There are plenty of info panels at the parking lot.4
Weekend cottage next to the parking lot.5
We go to Dolska planina-Dellacher Alm-1365m.6
Cart track.7
To Dolska planina one hour of walking, to Nasfeld we would walk four hours.8
Path No. 403 - named Karniska visoka pot.9
These mountains confuse me a bit - first we come to Brška planina -1422m-Egger Alm.10
Winter is coming.11
Here is that lovely little church.12
We go past Brško jezero -1399m-Eggerralmsee.13
We are at the border with Italy.14
Play of clouds.15
This is rarely seen.16
We walk past these hummocky meadows; on the way back we went along the road.17
Even hunters are hiding somewhere here.18
We cannot get lost.19
Before Dolška planina-Dellacher Alm-1365m.20
Already above the alpine pasture-half of us goes further to Poludnikovo planina-1708m.21
We go up along the road.22
23
Almost in front of the alpine pasture.24
And we spot it.25
26
27
This time the photos are full of blue sky dotted with clouds.28
Above the alpine pasture, Poludnik-1999m reigns.29
Of course, on these mountains, the obligatory crosses cannot be missing.30
There are even two here.31
Back to the starting point, we simply go along the road.32
By Preseško jezero, which is actually artificially dammed.33
See you again sometime.34
