From the foggy valley we had to go up for the sun and almost summer temperatures a bit higher. On the, for those not used to poorly maintained roads to pastures, a bit less nice narrow gravel and partially concreted road to pl. Kuk above Tolmin. Then path under feet. The dogs kept our pace and we reached the hut on pl. Razor in half an hour smile, from there to Globoko Pass, again thanks to the four-legged ones, in less than an hour. The sun was warming, even a bit too much for this time, on the pass no one, just vast and lush views to the Dolomites in the west, to daddy and other Julians in the north, to SE and S sea of fog which cleared around 12. We continued on the path below the north side of Krnice to Vogel (path well marked). Annoying is only the descent from the pass on collapsed and unstable terrain to the crossing, then the path is very nice and scenic towards Bohinj side. At Vogel top quite a few visitors. From Vogel back to pl. Razor and then to start. Nice loop tour, recommend.

Ksena, how much time do you need with such a more relaxed walk up there? If maybe you know something? I'd like to get to know these areas, but something always comes up. Thanks and good luck.

Yesterday I went to check my condition on a circular tour pl. Lom- pl. Kuk- pl. Razor- Vogel- Zabijski kuk- pl. Kuk. The whole way a cuckoo accompanied me, but I didn't see it. I paid more attention to the flowers waking up and enjoyed realizing that spring is also coming to the high mountains and soon I can climb higher. The walk was pleasant, in the sun already quite hot.
On the way to Vogel there are some patches of snow, which don't pose much danger, except at the sides where there's a hole under the snow and it can break through and the foot gets stuck in the scree. At the top there was no sun, Triglav and neighbors were hiding in the fog.
The path to Zabijski kuk is pleasant, scenic, with some sights along it. But the descent from Zabijski kuk is quite demanding, requires a lot of attention, especially on the scree. But I missed the path- I lost the trail on some clearing and descended to the road leading to pl. Razor blindly through the forest. Now I'm tempted to go in the opposite direction to see where I missed it, but I don't know where on pl. Kuk the path starts, as there are paths everywhere made by livestock on the pasture. If someone knows please write to me at least approximately where to look for the start of the path.

At 05:45 I looked towards the Bohinj - Tolmin mountains and despite the cloudy weather decided to go to Vogel. I drove to Planina Podkuk and then via Planina Razor climbed to the top of Vogel. At the top the view was spoiled by clouds and fog, but I enjoyed all the more the wonderful alpine flowers, which are now really in bloom. On the way back a shower caught and refreshed me at Planina Podkuk.

Hello !

@Tolminc ! I have to correct you regarding the name of the pasture, which you have listed under picture no.1 and others who name it wrongly. The correct name is: Planina Podkuk ! ( See the dairy pastures in Zgornje Posočje ! ) Of alpine flowers now, I'd say, the most in the Julijci right in the Peči
LP and safe in the mountains !

Not too early I drove to Planina Podkuk, from where I headed towards Globoko Pass. At Globoko a wonderful view opened to Bohinj Lake and Triglav, but it was more or less hidden behind clouds. I planned to extend the trip a bit, but dense fog crossed my plans, appearing from who knows where above the peaks. Alpine flowers mostly wilted, still some adorn slopes of lower Bohinj-Tolmin mountains. No special features on the path.smile

I also visited the Bohinj mountains on 6.9. I left the car in Žlan village and went to the main road towards Bohinj - 10 min walk. The first car stopped, a friendly local took me to the cable car and then with him to the top of the cableway since it wasn't operating at 7am. Then I went over Pl. Zadnji Vogel and Globoko Pass to Pl. Razor, where I first saw the sun that day as dense fog accompanied me the whole time (despite different forecast). I continued to Vogel top, where there is a sign for Rodica - 2h. After a good hour fast walk to the Šija junction there was again a sign Rodica - 2h. So the time on the info board right below Vogel top for Rodica 2h is not accurate, need to add a good 1.5h more. After Rodica I continued to Črna prst, where first signs of sun rays appeared but couldn't break through the fog. I arrived at Črna prst around 15:30 and after a short chat with English-speaking tourists descended back to the valley / Žlan. The path was pleasant despite no views. So I will probably have to repeat this path in good weather, as per descriptions it's incomparably nicer in sun. By direction signs 15h for this path, I used 11h from upper cable station to Žlan (with occasional stops on path and at both huts). smile

Did a loop from Pl. Podkuk, to Vogel, Globoko pass and back down. At Vogel met four and then maybe eight more on the path.
Weather really nice and clear, a bit breezy...

Hello,
has anyone walked from Planina Razor to Vogel in recent days, is the track somewhat beaten, is there avalanche danger?
like
CD30. 11. 2013 17:30:11
Hey... I was yesterday on the red ridge... In my opinion conditions are similar... snow is windblown and even some drifts or slabs are not big, so no panic with avalanches imo....
Anyway, it snowed in the mountains today but I doubt more than a few cm fell. Best to go to Razor and see on the terrain... LP

Yesterday at Preval Globoko and on Vrh Planje. Conditions excellent, path without special features. Fewer visitors, so we could completely alone enjoy the beauties of Lower Bohinj - Tolmin mountains nasmehnasmehnasmeh. More photos on the link.

Tolminske Ravne - planina Razor, Globoko saddle - Vrh Planje. (9.4.2025) When the weather forecast was more or less cloudy, the trip to Globoko saddle was just the right choice. Snow starts higher up around 1700 m, where we use winter gear. Because previous days were cold, the snow base was firm. Only the wind was cooling. Some sunshine also showed up. It added up to 12km walk and 1000m elevation gain.
The plan was to go up there, but we changed our minds.1
