Montusel (1881m)

In the Bela valley near Dogna village I drive almost to the abandoned hamlet Costamolino. From here onwards along the initially nice marked path towards Forc. del Montusel saddle, the trail narrows later, above the saddle or right below the summit it almost disappears, but the ascent is not too demanding. From the summit wonderful view of the nearby mountains, then off-trail descent down the gully towards Riu Molino stream, back to the trail and to the starting point. Nice autumn day with wonderful views.

I climbed it years ago in November. Dense fog in the valleys, but beautiful sunny weather greeted me at the top. Charmed by nearby Zuc dal Bor, one of the hardest peaks in the Karnic Alps. Regards!

....Montusel.....What an interesting path. You walk a long time on macadam with concrete drainage ditches and ups and downs. At the last house a nicely laid out trail through pine forest begins. But couldn't breathe. Sweat from hair and elsewhere. When the forest finally started thinning and clearing began, it got more interesting. Nice little path almost to the saddle. But those ahead soon realized they were full of small brown bloodsuckers - ticks. Bushes along the path full of them.zavijanje z očmi Grassy slopes to the summit quite steep, full of scree in between. Once on the ridge just grass and flowers to the top. Not much view. Fog took them again this time.jezen On return the tick race started again. More than 40 they counted, I luckily only two..nasmeh

From former Cas. Torgul along the already described path to the summit, from which we descended to Forc. del Montusel saddle and along the ridge to SE slopes of Cozzarel, then along the former path now heavily overgrown with brush to the exposed passage which we managed without problems and descended to the remains of the former barracks below Cozzarel. From the barracks along the newly cleared path 425a towards Kluž, but below Forc. Pedot we turned onto unmarked path that brought us to Agar de lis Tais saddle below Plananizzo. From there less than an hour to the starting point above Costamolino hamlet.

Given today's -8 from Kranjska Gora all the way to Naborjet, -3 at the start before the tunnel at Kluži was almost pleasant nasmeh.
Quickly warmed up on the pleasant mulatiera towards Costamolino, where I was soon. A bit higher the sun caught me, which I was very happy after gray morning. Path 427a, which soon branches right from its "superior" nasmeh is well traceable in the forest and "serviced" (windfall), after exiting forest marks disappear, path requires more attention. To the saddle also somewhat exposed in places, but no major issues. From saddle path doesn't lead directly to summit as grasses too steep, but towards south subpeak on partly eroded terrain (scree). Little snow on path, no problems.
Views nice, sun warm, only from saddle onwards windy. Really sorry to descend from warm sunny Karnic into cold shady Italy nasmeh

In Dogna I turn left towards Visocce and Plagnis, where I park at the trough at the end of the asphalt. The path leading to Costamolino with its steep ups and downs (up-down about 70m alt diff) is suitable for off-road vehicles, plus prohibition sign somewhere in between. From the last house a trail winds in constant ascent through sparse mostly pine forest but gets lost more and more as trees slowly thin out and give way to grass. Since south-facing slopes, almost no snow - view to north slopes shows different picture. Quite strong SW wind still didn't disturb our admiration of views from summit too much. On return we look around Costamolino a bit, where most houses are decaying - yesterday weekenders in three. Still holds that you can't live off beauty.
