A little-known mountain is an excellent viewpoint over Resia. I've been eyeing it for quite some time; today, though, when there was no time to go anywhere higher, I drove over Karnica saddle to Resia or to Liscac. From there on the really nice path 703 to Skrbina, then down to Rio Nero shelter (almost 350 m of elevation lost). The doors are locked shut, and when I go around back I find an open shutter; on the table some food from inside, but as if I heard snoring. Well, it's 9 o'clock and if someone slept, they really slept well. (By the way, has anyone overnighted there?) From the shelter I continue on the gentle path 707A to Tasacuzzer skrbina. From there on a somewhat worse trail marked 707 to the summit. The view is wonderful. Almost the entire Muzcev ridge surrounded me, Javor, behind Lopič, on the other side of Beli then Pisimoni, Grauzaria, Sernio, Zuc dal Bor, and the entire ridge from Cuel della Baretta to Montaza, Zrd, Vrh Krnice, V. Kanin, V. Baba, Mulec, and all the way to Skutnik and Krn. Below, the villages of Resia. Really nice, and all this to see only from 1462 m. From the summit I descend on path 707 (sentiero Claudio Vogric) to Gost village, a really nice trail, even mowed. From there, still about 2 km on the road to the car. Warmly recommend.

Don't let the modest height of 1462 m deter you from the visit right at the beginning, as we won't easily find such beautiful views in all directions.
Low start over the bridge in Tigo settlement at modest 360 m. After the bridge we go some 2 km along the river, then across interesting streams and deep gullies towards Rio Nero shelter. There we branch off to Tasacuzzer saddle and from there to Kucer. Before reaching the summit, a small descent awaits us and then ascent to the very top.
As I wrote, the views won't leave us indifferent. Maybe the right time for a visit is late spring or autumn, when not too hot, but if low temperatures like in recent days, also in summer.
If returning home via Učja border crossing, note the otherwise beautiful but very narrow road, where meeting oncoming vehicles is mostly possible only on designated pull-out areas.

Access to Monte Kucer via path 703 is officially closed.

In the picturesque gorge of Rio Nero stream a landslide occurred. From the rock face high above the path thousands of cubic meters of scree broke off and partly blocked the path.

The blockage can be bypassed without major difficulties or exposure, but the question is how active the landslide still is. Probably that's why the official closure.

Path 703 through the picturesque gorge of Rio Nero stream is still officially closed due to landslide. No new collapses since last visit, passage past the rocks is already trodden. Nowhere else on this path any peculiarities, same for circular descent over Kuclj summit.

But ticks are common here, recommend long clothing. Don't let that deter you from wonderful gorge and very panoramic summit.

Coordinates of start (parking just before footbridge): 46°22'30.0"N / 13°16'49.0"E

The path through the gorge is officially closed, but the path is well maintained except for the landslide.3

In the village of Tigo, over the hanging bridge and left on path 707. Before the first houses in Gosta, right, and then the steepness does not let up to the top. Due to the slower pace, you can really enjoy the pine forest and higher up the beech forest. From the top, descent to the saddle before the forepeak (don't let the marking on the beech tree a few meters below the path mislead you). To the forepeak and then only down towards Rio Nero and along its gorge to the end, right over the bridge to the starting point. In this direction, it seems much more interesting to me, you just need a bit more fitness. The ascent in the opposite direction is also about an hour longer and those endless zig-zag turns above the hut can be really soul-destroying.
Really nice tour.

On Saturday up the steep 707 and down the easier 703, alone on the hill, the weather could have been friendlier. The princess and I agree with the descriptions of GITA and jani, only the word "soul-destroying" does not seem appropriate for a hiking path description. Even though some trails have dragged on for us like chicken intestines mežikanje Great trip, surely not the last time.

Igor liked, I'd say, this rugged part of the Southern Julian Alps that gaze at the Carnics. This peak is a bit remote from the hustle of Montaza's high plateau with Montaz at the front and looks across the Kanin range at it. Hikers rarely go there. But it's not that far. From Tarvisio only fifty kilometers. From Tarvisio we drive to the fairy-tale Resia for us, which was once completely Slovenian. Today there's little Slovenian life here. But they have an interesting dialect that you actually don't understand. Start was in village Tapar Tigo (Slovenian Liščac), shorter just Tigo. Then across the stream on hanging bridge to the left on path 707 to our peak - Monte Cuzzer - Slovenian Kucer -1462m. Don't let the height deceive you, because you have to overcome 1000m height difference. First we go through hamlet Gost. Path 707 runs on steep forested slope (called Sentiero Claudio Vogric - our Slovenian?). Since the slope is narrow here there's actually no zigzag. After three hours on the panoramic summit where view opens to the right on Southern Julians with Kanin range in foreground and Poliške Špike with Montaz at front in background. Far right we see Strma peč. On left Carnics. At summit there's this mighty iron cross. Weather was wonderful autumnal, October - pure enjoyment. Down we went on path 703 above the gorge or through gorge Rio Nero. First short ridge path across forepeaks, then path zigzags pleasantly down through forest into Rio Nero gorge. This path is much nicer and effortless, just one hour longer. In between we reach pleasant, well-equipped bivouac at 867m. Then we actually descend into gorge and see beautiful waterfalls and cascades, jumps and potholes of mountain stream. Water is cold, even in summer heat pleasantly refreshing. Path then runs high above gorge. Several times descends and rises again to overcome side gorges. Path is all the way extremely picturesque and well protected with cables, railings. Crossings even made with wooden footbridges. Here is actually natural park Rio Nero - we'd say Black River. When we exit gorge then one-hour path back to start awaits. We cross river first already earlier over similarly hanging bridge as at Tigo village. From that bridge we have still about one hour to start. On return we sweat a bit, but worth the effort. This is beautiful peak, not so far - worth going there.

Pictures I'll upload tonight when I return from next trip. They are beautiful!
Start in Resia in the village Tamar Tigu, also just Tigu. From Trbiž we have fifty km to here.1
On the path.2
Immediately across the road is a suspension bridge over the river Rio Nero and here one crosses.3
We go left along path 707 - three hours of walking await us.4
Across the hamlet Gost.5
There are not really many houses to see.6
We have been walking for half an hour already.7
The path is well marked and rutted.8
Actually a fairly steep path through the forest awaits us. Here the slope width is narrow and it goes more directly.9

11
In between there are also some steel cables.12
13
Before the summit. To the summit the gradient never eases.14
Summit with a dominant cross, which is so common on Italian summits and also many other places.15
The view was a bit hazy, but all around godlike. Here in front Kaninsko pogorje, behind Poliški Špiki.16
Here in the middle is the easiest to reach summit of Poliški Špiki - Hude police.17
Summits in all directions as many as you like.18
19
The firefighters' one of course must not be missing.20
Down the other side of the mountain along the ridge -707A. That path one hour longer - thus four hours.21
View back to our Cuzzer.22
Let's go along the Rio Nero gorge. This is a picturesque river - here is the regional park.23
At the Rio Nero bivouac.24
Bivouac.25
Interior of the bivouac - excellently equipped.26
Down to the Rio Nero gorge in pleasant gentle zigzags, which could be counted like those at home on Kobla.27
The path is secured.28

Descent to the river - beautiful.32
This wilderness enchants us.33
Close to the starting point - we arrived here now from the other side - right.34

We still have about an hour to the first bridge.36
And it finally appeared. Arrived pleasantly tired, but full of new impressions.37

Monte Cuzzer was put on my list at the beginning of the year, which I realized exactly one month after Velkavrh's post. I have to admit that the posts on this page really captivated menasmeh
Our large group was just the right size on Thursday, and the hike direction was charted by Lojze, whom we of course fully trustednasmeh We definitely wanted to see Barman waterfall, which hasn't been mentioned on this page yet.

Kucer is a wonderful viewpoint over Resia valley, allowing us to see this beautiful valley in full. By height it's really a dwarf, but has everything that other peaks in its vicinity have. The view of Javor really attracted me, which accompanied us for a large part of the path, even though often obscured.
Our path went like this: we started walking from parking in Liščaza village on path 703, at Tasacuzzer saddle turned to path 707, which connects Gost, Kucer summit and Liščazo into a circular tour. From summit we returned on path 707a, but only to Črni potok shelter, from there again to path 703 over La Forchia saddle to Barman waterfall. It enchanted us all so strongly that we were speechless, stared wordlessly and marveled at the beauty we reached when we crossed its waters.
Quite dazed we left that scene, as we stayed there quite some time.
On return we also stopped at Tiga place, crossed hanging bridge to admire closer Resia river and Kanin mountains, which at that time glowed in setting sun.

That it was a beautiful trip, we loudly agreed at Aljažev hram, where of course we toasted the well-chosen tournasmeh

Finally came its turn. We didn't go to the northern summit because there was too much snow on descent from first summit to notch, otherwise snow wasn't obstacle up to there, just here and there some icy section right below first summit. Needs a bit more caution because path is steep, especially on descent. From Tam pass behind Kucer to bivouac and from it back to start no issues and very nice path.

Resia, Resia... the little beasts already knew where the fairy tale was at homenasmeh
I drive to the hamlet Tigo, where I leave the car, check out and reserve the beach for the return, and already hurry across the nice bridge, along the nice path 703. Just right for warming up, at the junction I continue on 703 into the valley of Crni potok (Rio Nero), 703a leads to "Pobičev".
Already at the start EE mark and I really didn't know what to expect. Wauuu, unique gorge that leads along or above Crni potok, winding little path that winds on unimaginable steep slopes incised into the forest slopes. The path then descends right to the stream, crosses it, then ascent again and traverse along a nice forest trail to the shelter Rio Nero, which offers quite a few options for tours. Here I just sit and meditate with a view of the wilderness above me. Obviously I stayed too long, as I hear some voices in the foresteek; I think the little beasts started chasing me, so I hurry on, path 707a to the next junction Forca Tasacuzzer. I choose the summit, it can continue to Liščacev, and here the path stands vertical, you reach the first summit, from which you slightly descend, then the final ascent and again wauuu... given the height, Kucer is really a unique viewpoint. I count the little houses in Resiamežikanje and the peaks surrounding me, then a well-deserved snack. Descent along path 707, Sentiero Claudio Vogric, passed quickly and I arrived in Gost, where the "marks run out", or I missed them. Behind the chapel, by the road, I just rush into the forest on a trodden little path, then marks and green arrows appear again and bring me back to the little bridge.
Rio Nero gorge, extremely beautiful, interesting, sometimes you need to watch out, especially since it's slippery in the morning, otherwise I really recommend it, at least to the lowest point, but if you make the effort to the shelter, maybe some fairy-tale little beast will surprise youjezik

Like about five years ago up 707 and down 703, this time without princess, I didn't meet any other kinds of little beasts on the path either..

Weather divine, conditions dreamy, a little snow before the main summit, nothing special, and more on the neighboring summit during descent, there caution is not superfluous, winter gear not needed. You help yourself with brushwood and hanging cables, pull yourself up a few times and you're out of winter conditions.

At the summit pleasant meeting with acquaintance-stranger velik nasmeh, L., I greet you nicely, your fellow hiker and fellow hiker too nasmeh

Really nice nice tour, almost wrote epic, but better not, because I know it can get even more exciting mežikanje

Monday 28.4.2025

Surprising start, even before I hit the trail, Ločanka and Jože show up, heading to Ta Staro pot. We chat about this and that, then each goes their way. If it had happened at the end instead of the beginning, we could've sat somewhere and chatted over coffee, so we still have that ahead.

At Gost by the chapel I turn into the forest, a bit later I scramble over the raging stream and already my knees are burning. The merciless steepness doesn't let up all the way to the top, in between views of the Kanin range, towards Zuc dal Bora and of course the valley, which due to the steepness quickly drops lower and lower. A bit before the summit I start feeling pumped, at the top looking at the clock I see I pushed too hard, even though I didn't feel like I was rushing. Up top as usual panoramic views and during them getting lost in memories and wishes, then I catch my breath, quench my thirst and already heading back down. Nice weather otherwise, but clouds are gathering over the surrounding peaks, I remember the fine print in the forecasts mentioning possible showers in the mountains. Before just going down, I have to go up a bit a few times, then I notice the trees on this side are still bare, while from Gost up they were already leafy and shining green in countless shades. I descend for quite a while until it's leafy green here too, then from Force Tasacuzzer - Tam za Kucrom down it drags a bit, probably fatigue, but the path is gentle and friendly to tired legs. Just before the hut, I'm surprised by gravel deposits, avalanches, severe storm or several have ravaged here too, last time I was here it wasn't like that. Below the hut part of the forest is completely down, thick beeches lie scattered like matches. The path is cleared, sometimes a bit detour, here and there secured. No water at the hut, tap still closed, so thirsty I reach the stream a bit lower, where I not only quench but properly refresh. It was hot and I could hardly wait for refreshment. Lower I cross a bridge to the other side of Črni potok, Rio Nero, then descend for a while high above the gorge and finally reach the valley, from where it's mostly flat to the car. Before getting there I take another break by a nice pool, drink what's left, and if the weather hadn't already turned nasty, I'd have soaked my feet too. Further on occasional heavy raindrops, at the bridge beyond which I already saw the car, it poured. I ran across, found the car keys during the run and sat dry at the last moment. Timing perfect.
Paths are normally passable, signs and pointers in place, what's down in Črni potok valley has been exemplarily restored. Great nasmeh
