Yesterday climbed three ferratas on both mountains.Ferratas are long and great arm strength is needed,on some sections foot holds are very rare so we need strong arms.Self-belay kit and helmet are mandatory equipment. No snow on the path, protections in excellent condition.Views wonderful.Nice mountaineering greeting.

5.8.2020/Monte Peralba /Pic chiadenis/Monte Chiadenis a real fairy tale
At the starting point by the direction sign1
at Rifugio Calvi, chapel2
and we are already in the Sartor ferrata — to/on Monte Peralba3
view of the ferrata starting point4
On the summit5
I confess my wishes to you6
In memory of the Pope's ascent to Peralba7
descent on the Pope's path,,crumbly,8
Pic Chiadenis, course of the unsecured path, simple stepping across ledges, scree is quite demanding — to/on Monte Chiadenis.9
On descent from Peralba we spotted it right away and couldn't resist,,we climbed the solitary peak,,10
and the action began11
demanding unmarked route12
on top a beautiful viewpoint13
descent along the ascent path,,14
and already from Passo Cacciatori in Via di Guerra ferrata15
quite demanding/even through such obstacle one must squeeze through16
through chimneys, gullies, overhanging rocks, exposure aplenty17
in short ,,the ferrata runs along the entire Monte Chiadenis,, ascent and descent possible only via ferrata18
at the top very little space,,lucky we are alone in the ferrata and on top19
a little breather enjoying silence peace beauty ,,,20
and ..the passages here are very problematic,,for some21
If you want to the valley also through this hole you must,,22
short ledge23
and again cheerfully to work24
several times we descend and ascend to the ridge section of the via ferrata25
From the extreme summit edge all three visited today are visible,, — to/on Monte Chiadenis.26
from here it only goes down27
from the entire via ferrata exceptional views,,that you forget everything28
view back,,29
the descent also requires considerable strength, caution and time,,30
enjoyably,,the descent is quite long,,and it is wiser to choose descent this way31
I really enjoyed watching her descend enjoyably towards the saddle32
Rifugio Calvi and Pic Chiadenis in the background,,very attractive, it would be a real sin not to climb to the top,33
friendly and interesting company for me along the path, haven't seen a white donkey yet..34

On Sunday we parked near the Piave source hut. For the ascent to Peralba we chose the western ridge and I must say right away that of all three routes it's my favorite. We were in shade almost to the top with nice views and flower patches along the path. We descended the normal route where groups of hikers were coming towards us. Over Sesis saddle we crossed flower gardens to Falso passo dei cacciatori saddle. Right above the saddle in the gully starts the pleasant Cai Portogruaro ferrata; upon reaching the military positions on the ridge I was surprised by the branch (new?) right to the higher summitnasmeh with position remains. Descent is fully secured too, from there it led us past Calvi hut partly on road and then shortcut directly to the car.

We used the nice weekend also to visit Monte Peralba and Monte Chiadenis. Particularly interesting for us was the western route to Pope's Mountain, which we hadn't hiked yet. It runs along a steep and mainly shady ridge, which is great in warm weather. Its start is behind the Piave source hut, indicated by the only signpost. The path is gentle at first, then steeply rises over rugged terrain. Above the tree line it eases and becomes more visible. Direction is given by rare marks and cairns, to be considered when following. Steepness is great but not much feeling of exposure. In the summit part there are some harder passages over rocks, but without major issues. We exited directly at the cross and were a bit surprised we were already at the top velik nasmeh.

We descended the rugged classic marked 131, where crowds were just starting to pour. Lower at Sesis Joch saddle we continued straight towards the eastern slope of Monte Chiadenis. There starts the harder of two ferratas to its summit. Besides demanding passages, difficulty shows in cables. Most are renewed but so loose you have to get used to it first. Such style was characteristic of Italian ferratas in the past, but not for long. Here they kept the loose style, probably for selection among candidates. The ferrata on the other side is completely different. We descended via it from the summit and there cables are tight as strings. Accordingly greater visits from that side.

After ferrata end followed descent to start and drive home. The narrow winding road to Sappada is badly worn by time and calls for renewal. All other roads were fine, except Sunday *drivers* with open windows who slowly but surely test nerves of all behind them. But that's the weekend scene nasmeh.

Start coordinates (before Rif. Sorgenti del Piave hut): 46°37'13.1"N 12°42'57.9"E
We start at first light. We leave the car at the last official parking before the hut.1
We still have to walk some asphalt to it, which comes in handy in the cold morning.2
It's still early, so we don't stop for coffee either.3
This interests us: the crossing to Peralba via the western ridge. We haven't done this yet.4
At the beginning the path is fairly gentle and easily passable5
With altitude the character changes. It is steep, walking on smooth rocks and scree difficult, path poorly marked6
Monte Lastroni is already in the sun. We will be on the shady side for long7
We enter high alpine terrain. Here the path is gentler and easier to follow8
We are constantly in shade, so not many photos from the ridge. This is a look back, especially down :)9
Only below the summit pyramid we greet the first sun. In green background runs wonderful Karnijska 40310
We tackle some more rocky terrain and we are already at the top11
Memorial on summit of Monte Peralba, also named Pope's mountain12
View to the valley towards Monte Chiadenis. This will be our next target13
First we must descend the scree gully where classic access marked 131 runs14
Rocks here are glued with mudstone and it is hardly more crumbly15
View back to the worst of all accesses to Peralba, at least for us16
Border, confine, Grenze is very close, but Peralba is entirely on Italian side17
In WWI it was not so obvious. Army completely drilled the green pyramid nearby18
We continue descent. Chiadenis already much steeper :)19
Numerous signs at Passo Sesis Joch saddle. Red via ferrata signs are new20
First small descent, then ascent follows …21
We arrived at eastern side of Chiadenis and here is via ferrata entrance22
And these are not exactly easy. The eastern via ferrata is the most difficult ascent to the summit, the western one is significantly easier.23
And the welcome sign …24
And *gripping* the cables. Already the entrance is a sort of selection for the less experienced.25
We'll leave this rock right here :)26
Similar vertical sections we will see a few more times. It's not our first time here, but with numerous via ferratas you forget a lot :)27
Cat-like :)28
Curiosity … the cables on this side are renewed in the old, very loose style. On the western via ferrata it's a different story.29
When progressing upwards looseness is no problem, but the rungs require more attention.30
Once again steeply upwards …31
Interesting remnant of the past. Some sort of palm-sized clamp.32
All sorts of passages line up, the via ferrata is enjoyable :)33
Not exactly for everyone. In many places muscles and skill in progressing are needed.34
Northern summit, nicer in view and access. It is full of remnants of the first war.35
Southern summit of Chiadenis we will cross on descent via the other via ferrata.36
Crowds come from there. Access is easier there, cables more taut.37
The passage runs on the left side of the ridge.38
View down the valley to Rif. Pier Fortunato Calvi hut.39
Ascent to southern summit first begins with descent on military passages.40
Then some traverses between numerous corners follow.41
View back to northern summit. On the right slope a group of mountaineers is descending.42
This is how the descent from the southern summit of Monte Chiadenis looks. The cables are fully tensioned.43
The via ferrata ends right at the bottom, where there are numerous military objects.44
Conclusion. From here on, it's just a walk.45
The descent can follow the access road or the path in the foreground of the photo.46
This one is called Sentiero delle Marmotte, locally Marmot Trail.47
View of the former marble quarry. It is of warm, reddish color.48
We are closing the loop. The parking lot is completely full, only the drive down the valley on the narrow and gravelly road remains.49
