From Planina Kuhinja past pl. Kašina, Leskovec towards Rdeči rob. Little snow at the start, path occasionally icy, but you can avoid the ice along the side of the path. From the viewpoint, at the bench, the snow cover depth slowly increases, at the summer path junction towards Rdeči rob or Lužnica valley it's already quite substantial...up to the knees.nasmeh. Snow of all kinds, slush prevails, but walking is comfortable since someone already made tracks. Weather gorgeous, warm, occasionally a cold gust blew, but the sun took care of heating nasmeh, the lake in Lužnica dressed in ice shell and snow blanket. Solitary, beautiful, just like around Krn always is.

Yesterday on a sunny day we went from Planina Kuhinja past Leskovce to check conditions across Lužnica. Behind Rdeči Rob footprints were visible in the snow. People walked there. Conditions mixed. Hard base in places, wind-packed snow elsewhere. Towards Vrh nad Peski we turned back instead, because snow was softened and icy base underneath, where you can slip quickly on descent. Above Lužniško jezero it was nice to go with winter gear. On the way back we detoured to the lake, where there was an easier crossing to the path. We met almost no one. Where not windy the sun was almost too hot for January. Nice tour, even without summited peak. It will wait.

Darinka, great tour and nice photos! I missed exactly posts in this direction.
I always like such mountain wanderings without peaks, so what if you didn't climb them, you admired them more easilynasmeh.

Not that much snow, doesn't look dangerous for avalanches, but need to walk carefully, with winter gear, I prefer walking on dry ground myself.

Thanks Ločanka. Really unpredictable conditions especially regarding snow. We expected definitely more. But until you get there you don't know. Then you decide as you think best. Views and sun that pleasantly warmed were there. nasmeh

So we went. Yesterday. From Planina Kuhinja over Leskovec. Right on the path. We knew there's plenty of snow back there. Also fresh snow crossed plans. But in such you go as long as you see it's possible. Then turn. Weather moody. Sun just a glimpse. In vain tried to peek from under clouds. Also windy. And cold. At 1600m we spotted a chamois already summer-colored. Persisted to 1850m height. Then turned, because it was closing more. Under Rdeči Rob avalanche debris where snow slid. Only there it didn't sink. Also some holes in snow. Winter gear came in very handy. Sign for Planina Sleme avalanche tore down and lies in snow. There also some broken trees. Snow back there will stay quite long.

We harbored no illusions where we would climb. There over Leskovec behind Lužnica. Haven't been here for a long time. We knew it had snowed. We'll see when we're there. On the planina a really pleasant chat with a local preparing wood. The talk also turned to the barrier, which now - apparently - is in repair. Despite video surveillance something went wrong. Doesn't matter anyway. We continued on the known path. Wind was cooling. Because this part was shady. When we got higher it was a real winter idyll. Everything decorated. We just stared at all of nature's creation. There is some new snow. We decided to visit Maslenik. We checked Vrh nad Peski. It's quite covered. Given that the snow is still unprocessed we didn't decide to continue. We stayed on Maslenik quite a while in great views. With backdrop of white sea. Which persisted almost all day. Met no one. Descent on ascent path. Gorgeous tour. Completely different from the last one last year, where we had no views from Rodica. Now it looked nicely dressed in white. (4.01.2024)

11.4.2024. Planina Kuhinja-Leskovec-Lužnica. The aim was to look towards Vrh nad Peski. Now conditions change every day. Snow didn't sink much. It's melting. We had quite cold wind almost the whole way. Only in the last part towards Vrh nad Peski it calmed a bit. At height 2163m a bit below the summit we decided not to go further. Due to hazards that could be triggered. Now also holes in snow and you quickly find yourself in one. From the ridge we also went to the neighboring peak. Monument at Mali Peski is in snow. Only the roof is visible. Still plenty of white there. We descended to the lake in Lužnica. Snow is melting there too. And on the ascent path to the start. Really nice almost spring tour. 14 km walking and 1430 m elevation. Met no one.
on Krnska plošča it picks up snow.1
even higher there is less and less of it.2
we don't know how it looks ahead.3
we go along the known path.4

Although yesterday 10.02.2025 the weather forecast wasn't exactly good, we set off from Kuhinja mountain pasture via Leskovec to Maselnik. They also call it Leskovški vrh. Quite a lot of snow piled up back there. Winter gear needed where snow starts. The path is known to us. Although visibility was poorer, no problems with orientation.
Something was visible.1
probably Matajur.2
more and more snow. 3
or rather on the path here and there.4
mists in the valley. 5
here we use winter equipment. 6
The wind was blowing icy at times. 7
further on it's known. 8
the top of Maselnik is visible. 9
we go a bit higher in the snow than on the hiking trail. 10
it opens up a bit. 11
the snow holds well. 12
there towards Vrh nad Peski is visible. 13
towards the top there is more and more snow. 14
we stay for a while. 15
the summit is elongated. 16
there is quite a lot of drifted snow. 17
view towards the south. 18
it opens up a bit, but closes quickly. 19
it's a bit different than in the sun. 20
Škofič. 21
we'll have to head to the valley. 22
there is really a lot of snow. 23
descent along the ascent path. 24
