Little Altar

On Friday, 8.8.2014, we climbed to Little Altar via Three Larches and Kotli (that mau, ku...k). It really looks like something from Kotli that reminds us of something... Just, it looked a bit strange when we old guys were riding it.

Yesterday again on this unjustly neglected peak. Maybe the name repels, not the one in the topic title, but Tamau, Kurček. It really looks very similar...nasmeh
Access isn't everywhere the most pleasant (scree, scree slopes), but varied and snowfields in the upper part, above Three Larches, made moving old bones easier for us.
From the fascinating Kotel, still snowy, we turned right to the ridge and along it to the notch between Small Altar and Little Altar. There the rope finally came into play, which we alternately hauled from the valley. The summit ridge is short, with excellent rock. We lingered on the summit, although mists occasionally teased us. Mainly they hid daddy.
Nice day up there.

Ponce, Little Sleeves, Little Altars..., what would we do without them.
Drago took me again yesterday into the wonderful world of Martuljek. Since I'm a 'safety freak', I hauled everything again - at least the backpack stood nicely at the endnasmeh
We started early, because I hate fog on first ascents, which usually rolls in around eleven, and descending in scorching afternoon sun isn't nice either. Anyway, everything worked out well; we saw no living soul other than the herdsman at Dovški Križ and the cow on Little Altar. Drago (as always) ensured 100% safety, so we hauled the rope, which gave me confidence on the loose scree... No snow lower down, the larch plantation is thriving, but I'm annoyed by the carelessness of mountain folklore that despite the waterproof summit logbox at Three Larches the book is destroyed. People treat them really like pigs with a bellows.mrk pogled
Drago discovered a nice passage to Little Altar and since I'm too much of a wimp, we didn't spice up the already nice tour. On descent I enjoyed the snowfield, and also the scree, refreshed myself with cold snow several times.
And my (lay) difficulty rating: With a cupboard on my back from Za Akkom it's quite demanding pathless terrain, the cherry on top (Little Altar), is close to a III.
Also the often published height of Little Altar is highly questionable. I'm convinced it's (two meters up, two down) 2438m.
Drago, thanks again for the unique day.

Is that cirque perhaps Kotel, which Prle mentions as a beautiful place for admiration?

lijaneja10. 07. 2020 14:55:48
Yes, it'll hold, @ločanka. Prle was the first to describe (and probably also climb) this little hillock a quarter century ago, at least that's how it's described in the Planinski Vestnik of that time. Interesting read.

I ended up here, and exactly three years later I continue againnasmeh.
Plans were completely different in the morning, as I intended to go over Snake Tongue to Altar. I progress extremely fast and cheerfully when, surprised, I realize that the 'tip' of the white tongue is missing.jezen Looking at the wet, steep, cluttered walls above me, I try twice, but they are too much of a security risk for me. Two years ago (even a week earlier) I approached Altar here without the slightest problems, as the tongue was filled to the top of the saddle. During the sad descent, the idea comes to me to try solo on Little Altar, which is 'at hand' here, since I have plenty of time. The steepness of the scree wasn't any less demanding than three years ago, when I was also hauling a long rope. Weather was ideal, I had enough water. More than last time, I struggled from Kotel to the saddle between the Altars, as then Drago led me over obviously friendlier terrain. For the third time today, I change my completely soaked clothes at the saddle. For the short scramble to the summit, I take only the phone and pull myself up the dry, safe rock to the top. I take pictures and quickly return to the backpack while the knees are still nicely mobile and not cooled down. At 'Three Larches', I vegetate almost naked for at least an hour, below them I fill cold snowmelt, which I sip also at Ingota, since it has neither Schweppes nor Fanta..., at Dani I indulge in cream slice.
Yes, next year to Altar already in June, as I have enough of Little Altar for a few years.jezik

If you mean Oltar via Kačji jezik, no problem, just more snow than this year or a week earlier up. Monte Tamau is much shorter, but due to the killer scree, take only a sandwich and phone upnasmeh
