Jof del Lago 1761 m

On the last day of a short vacation, I used it for the ascent to the hill rising NW above Rabelj Lake. I started the ascent right by the road to Neveja opposite the summer nautical center. First I walked along a forest track, then turned straight up through the forest, where I soon reached marked trail 656 leading from Rabelj village towards the saddle under Visoka polica. In Mali Krnica I turned right and crossed all the way to the highest point of Vrh nad jezerom (Jof del Lago). In between I had two snow showers, and some sun too. I descended from the top straight down, crossed the mentioned trail and lower picked up a path that later widens to a proper cart track, which obviously hasn't been used for a long time as there's quite a bit of fallen trees on it, which can be nicely bypassed though. I reached the Rajbelj-Neveja road at the second nautical center or former lake fortress (top). Then less than 1 km along the road to the start. In dry conditions the described tour can be extended with ascent to Visoka polica (II difficulty) and descent via Škrbina to Beli potok valley, but then count on about 4 km walk along the road to the start.

Actually I planned to Neveja, but since the road is still closed, supposedly they should open it for traffic on Wednesday or Thursday, and I didn't have much time either, I decided for Vrh nad jezerom. In Rablj I drive to the start of trail 656 leading to Škrbina Visoke police (Forcella delle Cenge). First some kind of road that higher crosses the ski slope, which sadly won't operate this winter either, and on until the forest road ends, then a nice mulatiera continues all the way to Mali Krnica. If there was just a cm of snow down in Rablj, here there was already good 40 cm. I turn right and up through pathless terrain through the forest, sparse spruces and larches, but lots of brush that's only partially covered. Somehow I clawed my way to a small saddle from where there was a nice view down to Mrzla voda valley and to Kamniti lovec towering over the valley. Further I really didn't feel like trudging and pushing through the brush anymore, so about 50 m below the summit I turned and descended the same way down to the valley.
The road through Jezersko dolina will presumably be opened mid next week1

We today went ski touring from Sella Neveja to Prevala, and the barriers were open in the morning, so we could just go past normally!zmeden

If anyone else ever feels like visiting this summit in dry conditions - along the ridge dropping towards Rabelj Lake there's a quite comfortable approach. Just at the very top it's no longer smart to follow the old pathmrk pogled.

I started at the top by the lake, along the hunting trail to Vette Scabre. At about 1250 m I turned directly up towards trail 656. Then descended it a few steps to where the trail swings towards Rablj and there turned onto the ridge. In the lower part the path is still visible, higher it disappears, but the terrain isn't too demanding. And so it went nicely as planned to 1700 m. From there to the top though less than 60 m took me one hour. The mistake was going straight up fighting the brush and ignoring fairly obvious tracks leading traverse left.

At the summit itself I didn't find space without brush, so I started descending down some kind of traverse that got better step by step. At the same time the will strengthened to try the adjacent subpeak too. After some 50 m descent a poor traverse path offers itself again. This time I follow it first horizontally for a bit, then up through clearing and finally along comfortable traverse to the summit ridge, where I finally take a break.

Return was along the approach direction, without the brushy part. The traverse tracks safely brought me to the point where I hadn't followed them before.

No markings anywhere, not even a cairn at the top. But it can be done without brush. But I know that only today ...velik nasmeh
