Jezerski Stog

Yesterday (Thursday, May 7). From Blato pasture along unmarked path to both Grintovici and further to Planina pod Mišelj vrhom. From there over Jezerski pass to Jezerski Stog. Via Krstenica pasture towards Planina v Lazu (in between to Ograde) and back to the car.

The huge, muddy and ugly cart track above Blato pasture kills the will to walk. Fortunately, three marks on trees remain, warning of turn-offs at really suitable spots. The fallen trees, several years old under the hill Na vrhu, are bypassed on the right; after barely noticeable crossing of the marked Voje - Krstenica path I headed left under the fallen trees and hit a well-trodden path to Grintovici.

I avoided the first snow patch in the valley west of Planina Vrtača, snow was hard as stone. Further to Planina pod Mišelj vrhom despite numerous snow patches no problems. Below the pasture I laughed heartily at a curious marmot that kept coming to look at me from its hole. From there on orientation in the completely snow-covered forest was very difficult. Any deviation from the invisible path usually meant risk of sinking into snow-covered scree, sometimes up to the waist. Although I was there three months ago, everything seemed new and unknown, I used GPS. The last slope to Jezerski pass was ideal for ascent - only the front sole sank, I didn't need the ice axe I had ready.

The path to Jezerski Stog is completely dry, on northern sides almost complete winter. Above the summit a paraglider was flying who ended up there from who knows where. Continuing to Krstenica was not problematic (the little valley from Jezerce pasture up towards Hribarice is mostly snow-covered, snow probably sinks quite a bit).

Similar conditions (occasional snow on path) on the way to Planina v Lazu. The path to Ograde marked with cairns tempted me, so I went up there too. Unique peak surrounded by walls on all sides, but when walking the path you don't see the abysses at all. Except some harmless snow patches among scree the path is completely dry, on the shady side of the summit though a meter or even more snow.

I caught Planina v Lazu in the last sun rays that gave the green grasses around the hut a fairy-tale color. Descent to Blato pasture without features, only in the lower part instead of cart track almost a km of muddy and churned tractor path.

Weather was ideal. Except at Krstenica pasture where I met one gentleman photographing, no living soul anywhere. But plenty of roe deer, chamois and curious marmots below Mišelj vrh. Lonely, quiet, pleasantly spring-like. On shady sides winter still reigns and dictates winter gear.

Yesterday to Jezerski Stog.
Around Blato pasture there are many new log piles for timber extraction so the path to Krstenica is a bit harder to follow. The piles extend far towards Krstenica.
Further path o.k. From Krstenica we went via southern variant to the summit, down to Jezersko saddle and Jezerce pasture. Met only a couple of hikers.

Short video from the hike to Krsteniški and Jezerski Stog, and the rocky loners Adam and Eva. We intended to conquer also Prevalski Stog, but due to thick fog decided to go back. At the end we barely escaped the rain too. Video at the link: Krsteniški Stog, Jezerski Stog, Adam and Eva, 16.8.2020

Safe steps.

Sunday's ascent to Jezerski Stog I started at planina Blato, ascended through the Bušnica valley to planina Krstenica, from there continued along the ridge path over Mali (Krsteniški) Stog and over Krsteniški pass to the summit. I descended via planina Jezerce and from Krstenica along the hunters' path to the starting point.

The path through Bušnica is poorly traceable (although you can find some cairns), the best orientation is the stream bed, which sometimes even allows faster progress than searching for the path now on one, now on the other bank of the stream – of course, when the bed is dry nasmeh

At Krstenica in a good hour, there I continue straight towards Mali Stog. The path to it branches left just below it from the "main" (which continues right, along the eastern slopes of that mountain) and through sawn dwarf pines seeks the most comfortable direction to the top. From there I continued through the dwarf pines along the ridge, which eventually descends to Krsteniški pass and rises again with the slopes of Jezerski Stog. The well-traceable path has some more demanding sections, but no major difficulties, from the pass I was on the summit in half an hour.

On the way back I descended to Jezersko saddle, took a close look at the biblical couple nasmeh and continued to Jezerce and further to Krstenica. I returned to the starting point along the hunters' path, which is much "hotter" than the one through Bušnica, but also more scenic. Nice and already quite hot day on the return, although the real temperatures are yet to come…

From pl.Blato via Krstenica to all three Stogs. I circle Krsteniški Stog on the eastern side along a scenic path cut through the dwarf pines and larch grove. From the pass with Jezerski Stog I climb up the easy grasses between dwarf pines to the KS ridge. I descend the same path to the pass and the clearly visible path to the JS walls, there left along the walls and higher across the grasses into a steep gully, behind the edge right to the JS summit.
I descend to Jezerski pass, circle Prevalski Stog along a poorly visible path over scree on the eastern side to Mišeljski pass, there through the scree to the PS summit.

Yesterday I went from planina Blato along the hunters' path to planina Krstenica and further to Jezerski Stog. Continued to Vodnik hut, which is still closed. There's only one snowfield, no problem. Lots of snow around Triglav and Kanjavec.

On the way I came across wedding-mood forest ants.

Hello.

all described feats start from planina Blato. But what about the path if I started at Pokljuka, went to Veleg polje and from there past planina pod Mišelj vrhom? Is it traceable, demanding?

From Planina pod Mišelj vrhom to Mišeljski preval, the path is marked and leads further to Planina Laz. From Mišeljski preval you can climb to Prevalski stog, continue to Adam and Eva, descend to Jezerce, from there to Jezerski stog and continue towards Krstenica. These paths are unmarked and not demanding.

In short: Veni, Vidi, Vicivelik nasmeh
Start from Pokljuka at sunrise. On the path from planina Konjščica to Jezerce there are plenty of freshly sawn logs or beams + stakes along the path. Looks like there will be "action" in springnasmeh Commendable!

Path ok, in shady spots 1-2 cm snow lingers. Otherwise dry path, no wind, hot in the sun. The whole path should take 5h to the goal at normal pace, with intermediate stops for photos and admiring, I reached the summit in 3.5h. So it's not far and not necessarily from planina Blato, the standard starting point. Only the last approx 80m below the summit is very tricky for descent. Up no panic, for down really very careful. Full of scree, narrow goat path, below you a couple of 100m air or extremely steep grasslands. Luckily I met two experienced senior mountaineers (husband and wife) and joined them for descent to the saddle. Much better feeling right away. Thanks to both!!!

Views are top-notch! Didn't expect such views. Really worth a visit. Really!
