Hudičev boršt on Zaplata - 1328 m a.s.l.

Today, bad weather was forecasted, so I headed out on a shorter but pleasant hike. I started at the elderly home above Preddvor on the path to St. Jakob. Up to here it's a nice short mountain outing. From here I went towards Javorjev vrh and Potoška gora. Soon signs direct us left to Javorjev vrh and Srednji Vrh. At the next junction we turn left again and go below Javorjev vrh. Soon we reach a spring. This spring comes in very handy if returning directly from Srednji vrh. At the next junction we head towards Hudičev boršt. We walk through nice grassy hayfields and soon arrive at the little forest called Hudičev gozd. Here stands a hunting hut which is also a mountain shelter. They're renovating it right now. For that they even made a helipad. A bit further along the path there's also a spring. On the hayfield below the hut they even fly paragliders. I returned via the ridge path over Javorjev Vrh. There's even a bench for resting. The ridge path is really pleasant, but we won't pass the spring here. Then over Potoška gora back to the valley. All paths are more than excellently equipped with signs and marked. The hike takes about three hours according to the signs. So an outing for one morning.

Is the hut open?

The hut is locked! Shame! Maybe it'll be different when it's renovated! One should ask the Mountaineering section Preddvor that manages it, at least that's what it says on the door.

We went to Hudičev boršt today early in the morning from Sv. Jakob, where the sun shone for the first time. The path isn't steep, only at the end it drags a bit. At the summit they're still building a new hut. For the return we chose the path to Čemšenik and to Kokro. It was a pleasant and a bit tiring trip.

Hi, I'm interested if by chance someone went by bike over Jakob, past Potoška, past Javorjev vrh to boršt? Is it possible to get there?

Of course it's possible but on some sections you'll have to get off the bike briefly.

The path is muddy and dangerous for slipping. Fog. No view either. But still worth the effort.

The path further towards Cjanovca and Srednji vrh is better! But I recommend at least small crampons, as there's hard ground in the forest and occasional ice where you can slip quickly and get hurt. A bit beyond the pasture there's snow, but only about 10-15cm. Matej

Everywhere it's snowy-icy and there might be some sliding. Choose a gentler or rocky path and away from southern or higher northern slopes, as an avalanche can be triggered in the sun.

It's been 4 years since anything was posted here, so it's almost high time for a new post, especially since we climbed to Hudiček via an unusual and unmarked path. Past the climbing area above Preddvor along the Bistrica valley to the canyon, where we head onto the grassy ridge and where, at least the dog, eagerly collects ticks. At the top the terrain flattens a bit, up to here it's real knee-burner. We're above the Bistrica spring, where a horizontal path leads us over Skodovnik and then straight up the steep slope to the marked path leading to Hudiček. At the shelter, chatting with the keeper Rajko, a pleasant breeze cools the heated body. The dogs cool off at the spring which flows normally. Descent via Mačenska with an unmarked addition at the end, since the car was in Preddvor. For the icing on the cake, a jump into the pleasantly cooled Kokra, what more could you want
