Very kind, but I wouldn't want to bother you. I think I'll manage the return too. I looked at the map a bit and saw it's about 14 km.

Water yes at the spring between Muzci (village) and Tam za goro - spring a bit above Tam za topolom, don't know about other springs. As I remember the huts at Casera Tasaoro - Tam za goro are more weekend cottages and not bivouac, at least then everything was closed. Anyway it will be a long day every day if you plan to do it in three days.
Good luck

From Muzci - Pian di Tapou - good hour

Pian di Tapou - Lanež (Cuel di Lanis) - less than 3 hours

Lanež ridge - Veliki Karman - approx. 5 hours

Veliki Karman - Gemona - 3 hours
OR
Veliki Karman - Muzci (via Ledisa and back over Pian di Tapou) - good 6 hours

Roughly maybe oštir to Ai Sorgenti. Don't know if it's still the same but when I was there first he (especially if you overnighted with him) came with his off-roader to Pers village to pick up hikers returning from Karman ridge. To Pers from Karman summit same direction as to Gumin but at Predola saddle instead of to Gumin, to Pers.

Fitness-wise it's quite demanding yes, but for someone with mountaineering fitness I think it's doable. Lanež - Karman ridge is slightly more technically demanding and at times a bit more exposed than Stol ridge.

One more thing: orientation on both ridges is not problematic but can be on the passage between ridges.

Approaches on our side probably not orientationally demanding either (from Učje and Breginj to Božca is road anyway, from Kobarid along the ridge, don't know, maybe @igor.b can say). Descent on Italian side to Gumin is ok to Predola (how from there to the other side to Pers I don't know), further to Scuglielarsa (Gumina suburb) reasonably well marked. From Karman to north side to Ledisa (turnoff couple dozen meters after descent from summit then soon right down, poorly marked) can have snow in upper part even in May, I didn't need crampons (poles almost mandatory), can confuse orientation a bit of course. Then small issues a bit after Scric pasture, otherwise to Ledisa ok. Both approaches described here on hribi.net. Just from Ledisa of course not to Gemona but at junction before it right to nice little church we reach in about 10 min. From there right to Tacca pass and Pian di Tapou.

Problematic though can be connection between both ridges, it goes at least partly by road and through settlements: path 710, which is last (at least official and marked) descent from Stol ridge, goes north side to start point couple km further from Tam at border (Tanamea) south to Monteaperta. For latter don't know exact route cause haven't been there (maybe someone else). From Monteaperta probably to Lusevera then Pradielis, Cesariis then path 729 to Dolina saddle then further to bit before Tam za goro then to Lanež.

First connection: path 710 to start point which is few km on Terska side of Tam at border pass, from there left along main road to Ai Sorgenti (some 3-4 km). If I'm not mistaken correct me, there is some path along the road too, at least to start for Muzce or even to Ai Sorgenti but not sure.

At Ai Sorgenti then to Muzci village. There junction. Follow path 709 left (right path to Kadin). We didn't miss, path although under Muzci ridge and just a bit above valley gets real mountain character, all until after about 45 min we cross pass. From there as cut off - forest. After some 15 min we reach second marked turnoff to Kadin which we ignore and continue straight. Then after some 5-10 min we reach junction which I'm not sure is marked or not. Anyway mustn't miss it cause straight goes to Pušja ves (Venzone), left quite soon (no more than five minutes) we reach Pian di Tapou and small parking with info board. So can reach there by road from Ai Sorgenti (if someone wants to bring another vehicle up for return), but it's closed (at least last time I was there). Driving at own risk, stones on road (even some bigger ones), can extend to Forcella Tacca (again no entry sign) for those who don't mind undercarriage of their car.

As hiker though after arriving at Pian di Tapou to Lanež turnoff from mentioned parking onwards two options:

- along mentioned traffic closed road to Tacca pass. This path obvious, but less marked turnoff from it few bends before pass summit. When we hit it arrival to Lanež turnoff is 5-10 min matter.

- for second option from parking along road couple 100 m back direction (to Ai Sorgenti). If look carefully right we'll notice in forest signs (path 729) both for Lanež and Karman and High Gumin path (Alta Via Gemona). Follow them and after good 45 min we reach Lanež turnoff too.

This turnoff marked only with arrow on rock and especially in autumn due to leaves (personal experience) can be missable. But once found no more major orientation problems. Just need to watch to go a bit across Tam za Goro pasture to Lanež (not to Dolina saddle). Interesting then the start to ridge from Lanež summit. From summit go a bit further as if to other direction, but path after 100-200m turns, goes under Lanež summit and on to ridge towards Karman.

So, hope useful to someone. Let someone else supplement and correct if something wrong.

Too much writing can do more harm than good. Definitely some trudging on the road around Muzca (village) you won't avoid. I recommend Tabacco map 027 and it will be clear right away. I would probably choose the nice path 709 for the continuation towards Pian dei tapou; and then further on both variants for continuation to 729 join at Vodičca spring. If the option for return from Pers holds (Breg is the name for that westernmost village with Slovenian name, even we Primors don't understand the inhabitants much) that's the winning variant.

From Kobarid to Stol summit prob. 4h well marked so no problem, midway Bivak Hlek see upper link. From Stol to Muzca, Bivouac under Muzec prob. 1h30min. From Muzca to Breški jalovec (ita) prob. 2h30min, further on Italian side unfortunately don't know. But sharing link of Italian hikers ---> http://www.sentierinatura.it/EasyNE2/LYT.aspx?Code=SentieriNatura&IDRPE=2068&IDLYT=1130&Nrw=10&LPAGE=1&FROM=PGR

Alpine path on our side of Stol ridge is nicely set up, demanding due to length and no water on ridge.

Also sharing link to map of Italian hikers where alpine paths on ita. side of ridge are marked ---> http://www.sentiericai-fvg.it/MAP_SETTORE_7.pdf

Nice alpine greeting.

After a long time, the traverse of Stol ridge and Brinica also got its conclusion. From Kobarid I started ascending through the forest which seemed to have no end, but when it finally ended, a smile-inducing view opened up. nasmeh Although the continuation offers nice views, the path seemed monotonous and little interesting to me long before Stol summit (mountain road partly overgrown with grass patches). The greatest satisfaction hit me because the ridge changes appearance further on, becomes more rugged, in the first (larger) part of the last third, i.e. at Brinica traverse, also much narrower and exposed in places.
I planned to descend pathless to Sedlišča / Micottis, but due to approaching night I changed my mind, returned along the ridge to the CAI 710 path junction and descended to Viškorša / Monteaperta. The descent in the upper part is very steep along grassy rib leading to a drop. Before it, cross the gully on the left, i.e. eastern side. Markings on descent not well visible and path lost in tall grass.
Nice, but due to length quite strenuous hike. mežikanje

I've already read the thread, but still, is there any water source near the Italian border on this ridge? On another open topo map there are stream beginnings drawn on the Italian south side right below the summits. But the question is how it is in practice and their accessibility. Maybe someone has some info? Thanks!

A long time ago (20 years ago, probably more) I was often on the ridge, one summit or more, depending, for water I remember getting it here. I also slept in the hut several times. Water probably is still there, maybe someone has more recent info.

@Turbo, thanks for info! Water is worth gold on such tours. Definitely will call when Rifugio Ana Montemaggiore is open. Pity no water somewhere in between on Slo side. Anyway as avid ridge lover I'll go across this ridge and check water sources all the way to the extreme Italian edge (Mali Vrh, or summit) and post info on forum.
