Today with Matej, a day off! We decided on the valley behind Kopica, otherwise the plan was Kanjavec, but we got tired under it and then skied back to the car. Conditions: the road is drivable almost to pl. Blato (4x4), with skis you can continue from the car directly on the road, even wet parts can be skipped with a bit of imagination nasmeh First we went to the hut on Planina pri Jezeru, then towards pl. dedno polje, further to the saddle and past Zelnaricami and Tičarica to saddle Vrata 2192 m a.s.l. We went further towards Kanjavec, but soon turned back as we really didn't feel like it anymore. We noticed that we prefer boots over ski boots, but the skiing was excellent. Especially after sausage and bread, an orange and three bananas! velik nasmeh Yeah, well, Matej cares for the figure... Anyway, conditions: from the hut to ice, to frozen snow to "bare". Snow types as much as you want. For the traverse to under Kanjavec, CRAMPONS and ICE AXE are MANDATORY! What else?! Great day, hot as in an oven, excellent skiing, dead mouse on the path mrk pogled, didn't meet a living soul, but saw movement on Kanjavec. Skied back, except beauty mistake (walk 10 min over wet part), this tour is a pure 10. On the way back stopped in Boh. Bistrica and treated ourselves to well-deserved 10 beers! velik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmehmežikanje

In chronic lack of snow I even prepare to carry skis an hour far aside for a couple of minutes of zigzagging. From Planina Blato over Planina pri Jezeru, across Dedno polje to valley behind Kopica. After more than three hours of walking, finally a view that gives hope that there will be at least some skiing. We climbed further to the ridge somewhere behind Srednji and Zadnji Vogl. Didn't go further as the sun already rang the alarm for sleep nasmeh Snow mostly hard and icy, but here and there sun gathered enough power to soften it a bit. There we could make a couple of nice turns. But snow everywhere too little, hidden stone mines everywhere.
Scratches on skis collected Primož & Zoran.

A couple more snapshots in short film nasmeh

Yesterday I parked at Blato and headed towards Planina pri Jezeru. Snow starts at the fence of the planina, from where I continued on skis. At the hut it's bare, further on still enough snow all the way to Dedno polje. Visible was the ski track from the previous day and some footprints of walkers. Above Dedno polje I had to carry skis almost to the top of the gully. Also below Slatna and Prvi Vogl the slope exposed to south sun already quite bare and I had to go quite around through bushes. In Dolina za Kopico still lots of snow, but overnight didn't freeze and was partly punched through, new snow slid on steep slopes under load. Opposite Kopica I turned right towards Srednji Vogl, but climbed only to the subpeak or to the 2143 m point southwest of the summit. No ski tracks towards Voglovi, snow quite soft. Descent from the top and through the valley was quite enjoyable, further with some trouble through bushes and over quite some rocks finally reached Dedno polje, where I sat in complete peace. After the break I skied all the way to the bench on the path to Blato, taking off skis at the hut on the planina.
It looks like Dolina za Kopico lately not much visited, as the only ski track led to Vrata, slopes of Zelnarice and Voglovi completely untouched.

Hello, tomorrow I plan Blato - Sedmera - Prehodavci - Blato. I'm interested in the section from Prehodavci to the valley Za Kopico. If anyone has fresh info, I would be grateful.

Today a circular tour from planina Blato, namely over planine Jezero, Dedno polje and Ovčarija to Štapce, from there along the ridge to peaks above Jezersko valley (Veliko Tičarico just bypassed), descent behind Kopica. Weather nice, views wonderful, but quite too hot, especially since the path runs all along in the sun. Behind Kopica some patches of snow. Interesting that on Mali Zelnarica stamp from the big one, on which nothing, probably because not marked. In such weather such tours need to start in the early morning hours.

With chains-equipped car I left at the bend of the road in Suha valley, at height approx. 980m. Further it would go another kilometer, but the car would be hard to turn and park.

Road was icy below, higher snow-covered. Snow on road was hard, but covered with some cm of powder, whose thickness increased with height. Near Planina Blato some fallen trees, which can be bypassed on skis, higher at the ramp before Planina pri Jezeru another one. Continued to Dedno polje (where snow up to one's head) and further towards Kopica and through dolinica Za Kopico to pass Vrata. There it was blowing hard, once from one side, then from the other. Tried further in the direction of the path to Hribarice. Steep traverse under Vršaki with dubious exit was icy, covered with smaller slabs of drifted snow, which held questionably, so near the end of the critical section I stopped tempting fate and turned back.

Skiing was not exactly praiseworthy. First ascent under Vršaki back to Vrata. Then in the upper third mainly traversing descent (so as not to lose height, because then you have to stomp) on iced slopes with smaller deposits of slab snow. Somewhat better from Vodenih Rup under Kopica and through the forest to Planina Dedno polje and further to Planina pri Jezeru, where it was possible to carve a nice turn on dry snow. From there onwards mostly rodeo on the cart track to the road, on which minimal snow powder allowed descent without major efforts.

On Kanjavec there were at least five ski tourers, apparently an avalanche even slightly swept one, but he luckily escaped. Despite wind, iced slopes and more or less large and dangerous slabs and slabettes, an unforgettable day in the wonderful remote little valley, where I didn't meet a living soul and which is flooded with snow as it used to be in the best times.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 22 January 2020) I started at Planina Blato and continued over Lazoviški pass through the western area of the Valley behind Debelim vrhom to the area around Hribarice pass. There I went up to the summit (peak, around 2362m) between Mišeljski konec and Hribarice. Then I continued over the pass towards the west and below Vršaki traversed to Vrata saddle and then descended through the Za Kopico valley to Dedno polje and further past Planina pri jezeru back to Planina Blato.

Conditions despite snowfall a few days ago are still ideal for hiking. The new snow was mostly blown away by the wind, here and there in leeward spots with windpacked snow you sink up to your knees. But such holes aren't too many and you can avoid them visually. The majority of slopes is covered with very hard snow where crampons grip well. On very sunny areas (zero isotherm forecast for yesterday was again near 3000m) the snow on top is blown off, usually few cm below surface is icy base.

Particularly interesting was the mix of conditions in the known traverse below Vršaki. In less than 100 meters unstable wind slab holes as well as very hard snow where crampons gripped excellently, and crusty snow with soft slippery base of glacier pellets completely detached from icy base alternated in different order with multiple repetitions. I was glad to have two tools with me in this uncomfortable traverse that I didn't need elsewhere. Crampons are anyway mandatory in these areas in winter. Not clear to me how I traversed it less than a year ago with touring skis, but in these conditions I advise against it for touring skiers. If at all, conditions in upper third (before steepness increases) maybe slightly less demanding.

Weather was sunny all day, without a single cloud in the sky. Here and there a little wind blew, but in momentary real spring sunny bake it was even welcome.

First stars lit up in the sky when I arrived at Dedno polje pasture. Atmosphere was exceptionally clear, at Planina pri jezeru I spotted Orion constellation above spruces in the sky. Haven't seen it so bright for long.
