Cima SAT - via endless ladders above Garda

The most desired access to Cima SAT summit is the Via dell'Amicizia via ferrata. The initial third is a bit boring, but it quickly pays off with the continuation nasmeh. The most beautiful part of the ferrata runs on metal ladders in a steep rock wall directly above Lake Garda. The ladders follow one after another and surprise you with their length and attractiveness nasmeh. The longest is a full 70 m, running at a solid incline with tons of air under your feet velik nasmeh. The difficulty level of the ferrata is B/C, suitable for those indifferent to depths.

Return is currently possible (May 2017) along the exceptionally well-laid path 418, similar to our Komarča. Paths 404 and 405 are closed until autumn 2017 due to renovation.

Coordinates of starting point (Riva del Garda - parking in garage building): 45°53"11.8"N / 10°50"16.2"E

That the peak is 1200m above the lake, but doesn't look that high.

@dprapr ... of course not, I didn't write that anywhere. 1200m elevation gain accumulates on path, more precisely ... for 1220 m nasmeh

Panda, that's above sea level. Garda is, in my opinion, not at 0 m a.s.l.

On the second day of wandering we chose the peak Cima SAT. For the ascent we chose the most attractive path ferrata Via dell'Amicizia, for the descent the comfortable path st 418. The path on ladders is really fascinating and all the way very nice view of the lake nasmeh.

Cima SAT belongs to a small mountain range right above Lake Garda, which during WWI was the front line between Italians on one side and Austrians on the other. Accordingly, there are tons of military remains in this range, a real treasure trove for those who like to explore this topic. Besides Cima SAT, Cima Capi and Cima Rocca are relatively easily accessible, all connected by countless military paths. We've walked many of them in previous years, this time aiming to connect all three main peaks into a circular tour. Cima SAT has the most attractive access, so we took it as the main goal.

We parked in Biacesa, a small village squeezed between Lago di Garda and Lago di Ledro. The central village parking has been repurposed and despite its size is only for locals, tourists have a new one just below the village. From the parking, we took paths 470 and then 405 first to Cima Capi. This is a side peak directly above the lake, with its attractive wall dropping steeply down. There are equipped climbing routes in it, but we preferred the more comfortable access via Sentiero Susssati. Soon we were at the summit and after a short break continued.

Next goal was crossing the extremely steep slopes under Cima Rocca all the way to the chapel of St. Barbara. The path still marked 405, typically military and carved into the rocky slopes. Nowadays it's hard to understand the reasons for building a path in these steep areas, but anyway, something good remained from hard times nasmeh. The beautiful path continued to the chapel, where we headed to the most notable ferrata in the area. It's called Via dell'Amicizia, special due to the large number of ladders in the second part. What ladders, some are real ladders velik nasmeh. The longest among them is about 70 m and in the upper part completely vertical. It overcomes the steep wall and surely leaves no one indifferent. Even further to the summit, another similar treat awaits, and soon we stood on an excellent viewpoint.

Here we were farthest from the start and began returning towards Cima Rocca. We chose combinations of different paths. Common to all is walking through military positions, and so many different remains together you rarely see. En route we hit the last peak Cima Rocca and descended the opposite slope to the church S. Giovanni. From there we chose a more comfortable pilgrims' path for the further descent and soon were back at the start. I warmly recommend the described loop or any part of it nasmeh. More in the photo story...

Data on the entire route: 14 km / 1700 m elevation

Coordinates of starting point (Biacesa - new parking): 45.865080, 10.807301
We park in Biacesa and search for signs to Cima Capi in the village center.1
The sun has already awakened and promised a beautiful day.2
Cima Capi is accessible from several directions. We choose *Pot kozlov* marked 470.3
They've put this one behind bars :)4
In every slightly larger hole there are remains of positions from the first war.5
Cima Capi. We will climb to it along the left edge, the wall is reserved for climbers.6
Here the F. Sussati route begins, although from this side there is no special sign for it.7
Climbing on the excellent rock is attractive and not too difficult8
Throughout there is a magnificent view of Lake Garda and the surroundings9
In summer it can be quite hot, but in late autumn the sun is more than welcome10
The direction is clear, just follow the cables and the 405 markers11
Some passages are fiddly, but the difficulty nowhere exceeds B/C12
At the top of Cima Capi13
View of the upper part of the lake and the town of Riva del Garda14
View of the peak Cima Rocca, over which we will return15
We continue ahead following the well-marked, locally exposed path16
Here the path turns onto Sentiero Foletti and Cima Rocco, we continue straight17
The path still bears the 405 marker and right here the surprise begins…18
Suddenly the path descends obliquely into the rocks, exposure increases sharply19
Accordingly there is a continuous line of protections along the side20
The narrow trail continues to cross extremely steep slopes21
There are few natural passages. Most of the path is artificially constructed and carved from the rock22
Only from this side did I notice that the Sentiero F. Sussati path has its own marker23
The continuation proceeds in gentler terrain24
Here we turn onto 404A towards Cima SAT25
Just above Riva del Garda large granite blocks appear that are not visible elsewhere26
There are also quite a few cables, often more for tourist hikers27
A not exactly short ladder surprises us, which overcomes a concrete wall.28
View in the direction of descent…29
Military church Santa Barbara. This is the lowest point of our descent, ascent follows.30
View in the direction of Arca.31
Riva del Garda right below us.32
Entrance to one of the most attractive via ferratas around here… Via dell'Amicizia, path 404B.33
The initial part is nothing special. Some pulling on cables, some free walking.34
The essence of the via ferrata are its endless ladders that overcome the pronounced wall of Cima SAT.35
One follows the other, the difficulty does not let up.36
In between there is also some minor climbing only with the aid of the cable.37
And already the ladders come to the rescue…38
In front of us is the biggest, most ooh and aah… 70 m long heavenly ladder.39
The view upwards barely reaches the highest point.40
The ascent is long, the incline becomes steeper with every meter. Just below the summit, the ascent is vertical.41
The exit flattens out, the stiffness in the muscles eases.42
Platform a bit higher, where everyone deservedly catches their breath :)43
Summit part of Cima SAT. A ladder is also routed up here.44
Just below the summit. One more look down and we quickly continue.45
We say goodbye to Cima SAT. Nice via ferrata, nice summit :)46
With the help of some pegs and cables we descend the summit rocks.47
At the nearby intersection, we turn left towards Vallone del Concoli. Later we will turn right.48
Almost immediately, remnants from the first war appear again. There are really a lot of them in this area.49
Behind every bend something can be found …50
Every little path was once a military trail …51
In the shelter of the rocks we stumble upon a real military outpost.52
Walking on these paths is comfortable and not strenuous at all.53
Cima SAT from another vantage point.54
The signpost directs us to path 404 towards Bochet del Concoli.55
We have walked here before and have forgotten quite a bit since then :)56
There are a huge number of rifle trenches, which despite the time distance are still very visible.57
Our last goal … Cima Rocca58
View down to the exposed path 405, which we walked in the morning.59
Here there is no exposure, as we are mostly walking in the trenches.60
These are literally torn out of the rock in many places and it's hard to imagine the work back then.61
There is no end or beginning to the defensive trenches. In between everything is full of caverns.62
The markings also lead us through one of such dug-out trenches.63
Cima Rocca with a modest cross.64
Group photo at the top …65
The sunny day has finally said goodbye, cloudiness announces the arrival of the front.66
We cross the summit and descend on the opposite side.67
Some steeper sections are secured with a wire rope.68
Here even the rain can't touch us :). A headlamp is mandatory.69
On the other side of the tunnel. Some steep descent follows...70
Church S. Giovanni above Biaceso. For the further descent, we choose a more comfortable pilgrim path.71
It is partially concreted, partially paved, above all more comfortable than the direct descent.72
We are already in the village and almost at the starting point.73
GPS track of the hiked path. Altogether 14 km and 1700 m of elevation gain.74
