Gjaideit is a hill about 5 km north of Tolmezzo, panoramic and relatively easily accessible. We climbed it from Imponzo, which lies on the left bank of the But river gravel bed, along the road to the famous Plöcken pass. From the parking lot at the northern part of the village we headed to the church, where we found a signpost and first markers – to the top of the 1082 m high hill with an interesting Friulian name via circular path no. 460 from the village church is a 2-hour and 10-minute walk.
At the church there is also a board with a map of the Carnic Churches Path, which the mentioned hiking trail uses well. It gently ascends through the forest to the saddle below the rise with the nice St. Florian church (50 min walk), where hikers head to the start of the ridge to Gjaideit, pilgrims continue the descent to Illegio. Despite visible storm damage, the path – to the saddle and to the top – is well maintained, only the section bypassing the initial ridge head at its western foot is a bit tricky due to erosion. The still forested trail soon climbs to the ridge, on which it persists to the top. It is steep, with some leaves on the path, this Sunday it was dry. Later the path opens up, views are always wider, soon we spotted the cross on the forepeak of Gjaideit. To there a steel cable is stretched over slabs, the summit is just a few minutes away. There are nice views of the Carnic Alps in all directions – also on Monte Coglians, which presides over the entire group – only Kanin, Baba and Skutnik managed to secure their place in this Carnic panorama. Although the path can be continued and completed circularly, we returned the same way.

I've been to Strabut too. Nice, but unfortunately overgrown at the top and no views. During descent I got a bit lost and didn't do the loop tour I wanted, so a remedial exam awaits zavijanje z očmi

After somewhat expected unsuccessful scouting of snow conditions in Carnia velik nasmeh

I parked in Imponzo and hit the trail. Third time on Giaideit, second loop, first solo. Past the footbridge into the forest, path quite muddy all the way to the meadow below St. Florian church. There sightseeing, during which I was mildly stunned by the beauties the eye beheld. Continued to summit b.p., dry grasses no less slippery than mud, steepest spots decently secured, can go fast if pulling on cables. Not necessary even with poles in hands, just lift legs high. At pre-summit cross and bench and golden yellow grasses, tall enough to lie down easily. Alone, as they were dry as pepper, sun warming like late spring, breeze you could imagine, nature didn't provide. After snack headed to nearby summit, but before a step or two, white-headed vultures, griffons, glided over me, circled the hill a bit, descended toward church, glided there some more, then flew off into unknown. At top with panorama board checked my knowledge of nearby and some farther peaks (did well, actually very well), then descended to forest and soon to road. Along it far up out to Forcjute saddle, there left down toward Rio Mignezza stream, across it to Pracuc, on to Mignezza building, then road and finally path back to Imponzo. It was great, solitary, scenic, memories of Giaideit rambles for at least two such loops, preferably more, plus griffon visit, can't complain, such a small hill. During descent remembered first ramble, during which I "noted" some nearby hills nice to add to Giaideit zavijanje z očmi

Djimuzl and turbo described the tour well, so our feet started itching nasmeh

We too from the same starting point. First past two churches, at St. Florian already quite exceptional views of But river gravel beds, down to its outflow into Tilment and up to upper Carnia where But rises. Wonderful views, so we made the tour end above its course.
Then continued to Gjaideit summit, but first of course step on its forepeak with cross and bench. Actually beautiful views all along the path, no matter which way you look, beautiful pines along ridge, views to highest in Carnics Mt. Coglians, Amariani, Verzegnis group are staple. On top the view is joined by also M. Sernio, Javor and Lopič, even parts of Kanin and Bab visible, and Zemula and surroundings. Everything's there. Even Antelao peeks from behind the corner. Along whole path also view to Nearby Strabut, which predecessors mention too.

Continued path along little trail ahead and via Ria and Mignezza screes back to parking, thus fully circular tour. Got a bit confused only crossing Ria gully, where need to go a bit further along gravel then left up bank.

Short and sweet, more hill than mountain above Imponzo has all that "the big ones" have. Paths on both sides, even unmarked with red dots, very steep slopes, almost directissima, secured with cable, and of course great views reaching farther than eye can see. Also nice little church along path, sin to pass without stopping to enjoy views and peaceful calm. At start greeting from few dogs, all fenced, good-naturedly barking, at least by ear. Then britof and first views of But valley, then into forest to St. Florian church, from there even better views, also to Giaideit itself and steep path to it, then again forest, this time pine, some knee-grinders, then cables, forepeak with rest area and cross, bit more and no higher. Yay. Wherever I look, familiar mountains and valleys below. Some familiar cause we've met personally, others for now only by name, some still hiding here and there whose names I don't know and not sure if I'll find out. Time for what I have and what I want, then time to lift butt and head to valley. Descend around to other side of hill to forest road, leave marks and continue left. Where road ends into red-dotted trail, clearly visible and already known, descend on it to junction with previous path. One more stop before church on britof, last views, then first houses and already at car. Dogs quiet, probably afternoon nap, no people around. At car couple minutes to turn experience into memory, then drive home. Congratulating myself, it was so cool cool
