FERRATA BOCCHETTE CENTRALI-Dolomiti di Brenta

JORDAN17. 08. 2015 19:44:21
After coffee in the Brentei hut we started at 7am towards the Alimonta hut. It took us 1:30h to the hut, then we had breakfast on the rocky ledges under the hut in the morning sun. From the hut we went along path no.323 to the Bocca d'Armi pass 2749m. From the east side the very demanding ferrata Felice Spelinni also leads to the pass. Right at the pass the Bocchette Centrali ferrata starts which according to visitors is the queen of ferratas in Brenta or even in all Alps. Using a system of vertical ladders we climb to the shoulder and we're already on the narrow exposed ledges on the east side of Torre di Brenta peak 3008m. We continue on well-protected ledges and suddenly the tower of all towers, Campanile Basso 2883m, appears from around the corner. The view of the tower and surroundings is so wonderful that the feelings it evokes are hard to describe. We continued along the ledges towards the gully that cuts through the peaks Torre di Brenta and Sfulmini 2910m. At the spot before entering the gully the exit ledge is clearly visible on the other side. Before entering the gully we heard people coming towards us and since meeting on narrow ledges is tricky we waited for them. We waited a good 10 minutes because they were taking photos for a long time. The photo from the end of the gully where both ledges are visible is the motif where most photos are taken on this ferrata. I have to admit the view from the gully is really fantastic and we were lucky that mists came up from below spicing up the picture. Along the ledges and also through the tunnel we continued towards the Campanile Basso tower. Climbers were clearly visible in the tower. The surroundings are very magical and the rock formations are such that you wonder how physicists can climb them. The path then starts descending towards the Campanile Basso pass and caution is needed on descent because here the path is not secured everywhere. On descent we also notice the stone Madonna carved by nature. When crossing the narrow gully in case of snowfield extra caution is needed, in early or late season winter gear is also required. At the pass we reach the west side ledges in the wall of Cime Brente Alte 2960m. The ledges here are even narrower and wind around pillars and gullies. Where the ledge ran out they installed wooden bridges. Deep below us is the Val Brenta Alta valley and the depth is really impressive. The ledge then widens and at one spot we can refresh with water flowing directly from the wall. Down steep ladders to the snowfield under Bocca di Brenta pass 2549m and the ferrata is finished. The ferrata is really scenic and offers hikers lots of enjoyment. Since it's not too difficult many hikers visit it every year. Hikers enter the path from both sides, in my opinion the path is easier if we start at Bocca di Brenta pass but in the opposite direction it's surely more experiential. For the ferrata we needed 4h. Over the pass we went to Pedrotti e Tosa hut 2483m and rested there. We continued the path along Sentiero Palmieri Alto no.320b towards Silvio Agostini hut 2410m. The upper Palmieri path is more scenic and panoramic than the lower one but at the end it's also secured with cable but nothing too difficult. Over Noghera pass we entered the head of Val d'Ambiez valley and under Cima Cedo 2757 continued the traverse towards the hut. To Agostini hut we needed 2:30h. In the hut we had half-board reservation with accommodation for 40€ with discount. After 10 hour walk of the day a hot shower was the best-3.5€ for 5 minutes. Agostini hut has been renovated and is really nice, and it was completely full. After excellent dinner we visited the chapel and the second day of wandering was concluded.

And who knows if ferratas Alta and Centrali are open after last rockfall in Brenta? As far as I know ferrata Benini is closed.

Visited yesterday. Very nice. Since the last visit in 2017 a new Tibetan bridge has been built on the Alte road.
