Fallbach

On the last day of vacation I planned to head to the three-thousander Säuleck via Buderusweg. Unfortunately bad weather crossed my plans, so I stayed in Koschach (from where the road branches to the starting point of this trail).

Well, there, as extreme ferratists especially know, is the highest waterfall of Carinthia, Fallbach with the famous extreme (E) ferrata. Well, let's at least go see that, I said to myself.

The waterfall, visible already from the road, excited me, of course, the ferrata next to it is really just for watching for me. But from the scenic balcony halfway to the top, despite bad weather and resulting slippery rock and thunderstorm danger, I still saw three climbers. I didn't know what to think: 'hats off to them' or some Czechs mežikanje

Of course you can reach the top also via normal path that bypasses the ferrata and serves ferratists for descent. It's part of the circular path around the waterfall. That's the path I took.

From parking lot we go some 200-300 m back along the road towards Gmünd, then signpost directs to the path which soon enters the forest. To the viewpoint halfway, some 10 min from our path (signpost) the path is relatively undemanding both fitness- and technically wise. Suitable for all therefore. From there onwards it's a bit different: path becomes somewhat steeper, somewhat more demanding fitness-wise, we also encounter some 50-100 m secured path. For average hiker there shouldn't be problems here either, the cable is more for securing exposed area than for progressing and for ferratists returning down here it's merely decoration. velik nasmeh Some securing for kids still doesn't hurt.

At the top (there also ends the extreme ferrata which our path bypasses) over the waterfall is a little bridge, then we can continue further to the gravel road (still some knee-biting awaits us without cables), where we turn left onto the road. After some 500 m signpost directs us back to the valley. When we reach the main road, we go along it for a while towards Gmünd then markings direct us again into forest and after some 10 min we reach also the lower scenic point. From there to the starting point (parking lot) it's still 5 min.

At the parking lot there is also an information board with the path drawn on it.
