Description:
Fragrant wallflower (Erysimum odoratum) is considerably more common than Carniolan wallflower. Differences between them are often not very obvious. Fragrant has petiolate basal leaves, while the leaf rosette is already withered/dried at flowering time (in Carniolan still green). The stem is often branched (in Carniolan rarely). Flowers and sepals are noticeably smaller than in Carniolan wallflower, measuring 14-18 mm for flowers and 7-9 mm for sepals (in Carniolan flower 18-23 mm, sepal 9-11 mm). Neck length is 1.2-3 mm in fragrant wallflower, 0.8 mm in Carniolan. (Data from Mala flora Slovenije, key for identifying ferns and seed plants, 2007).
