Sele pri Cerkvi / Zell - Pfarre - Koschutnikturm (Košutnikov turn) (ÖTK Steig Neu)

Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice take the exit Ljubelj (Tržič) and then continue in the direction of Klagenfurt / Klagenfurt. After the Ljubelj tunnel, the road starts to descend and we follow it to a junction where the road to Borovlje / Ferlach branches off slightly to the right and downwards. The road continues to descend and quickly leads us to the aforementioned place, where we soon cross the railway line. Just after the railway line, we join another road, which we follow to the right, and we follow it towards Sele / Zell-Pfarre. When you arrive in the town, park in the parking lot opposite the church.

Path description:
From the parking lot, follow the main road back towards Borovlje, then before the end of the village, notice the signs for Koschutahaus, which direct you left onto the road leading to the courtyards of the nearby houses. After the houses, the road changes to cart track, which ascends across a meadow, from which a fine view of Freiberg / Freiberg opens up. After a few minutes of climbing, you reach a hamlet of a few houses, where you get on the initially still asphalted road that leads to the Cottage pod Košuto. For a short time we walk along the asphalt road, which opens up a beautiful view of the Košuta walls, and then the road turns into a forest and loses its asphalt coating. Walk along the macadam road, which leads us higher up past a small waterfall, to a marked crossroads, where the marked path from the Ridovc / Ridovcsäge homestead joins us from the right.
At this point, leave the road and turn left up a steep bank, which leads to a steep path through the forest. Higher up, we return to the road and follow it out of the forest to Mrzli Log.
From here you can either continue to the right along the marked path which continues along the valley floor, or you can follow the parallel dirt road. Wherever you continue, after about 15 minutes of further walking you will reach the Cottage pod Košuto.
From the hut, continue left into the forest, where the path quickly leads to a marked crossroads. From the crossroads continue left (right Ridovc / Ridovcsäge, Maleejska mountain pasture / Malealm, Pesšinca saddle / Pischenzasattel. . . ) in the direction of Cjajnik and Koschutnikturm / Koschutnikturm along the path which ascends transversely to the left. After a few minutes, you reach the next crossroads, where you continue straight on in the direction Koschutnikturm (Cjajnik on the right).
Further on, the trail begins to climb a little more and, with occasional views of the walls of the Košuta, leads us to the saddle Mejnik / Mejniksattel, where, right after the Koschutnikturm markers, the trail leads straight down gently towards the village of Trkelj / Terkel. The path then climbs through the forest for some time and then leads to the scree slopes below Košuta. After a short crossing to the east, we reach the signposts where our path branches off to the right and climbs slightly steeper on the scree. The left-hand path continues to cross the slopes to the east. At this point I would like to point out that the path leading to Koschutnikturm from the north-east is closed. After climbing over the scree, enter the climbing part of the route. From here on you will need a helmet, and it is highly recommended that you use a self-belaying helmet. The path climbs steeply up the right side of the ravine and leads above a notch. The path is well protected at all times by a steel cable and there are a few staples to help us. Above the stubble our path turns right upwards, and to the left (northwards) there is a suspension bridge over the stubble over which we can cross to the other side of the stubble. Our route therefore does not cross the bridge, but climbs steeply along the staircase with the help of some staples to the south. On the left we can already see the precipitous north face of Koschutnikturm, followed by a short climb along the glacis to the main ridge of Košuta. Here we reach the less steep southern slopes of Košuta. Bear left towards Koschutnikturm and after a few metres the western path from Mountain pasture joins the lower Dolga on the right.
