Ridovc / Ridovcsäge - Koschutnikturm (Košutnikov turn) (along Mrzlem potok and via ÖTK Steig Neu)

Access to the starting point:
From the motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the exit Ljubelj (Tržič) and then continue in the direction of Klagenfurt / Klagenfurt. After the Ljubelj tunnel, the road starts to descend and we follow it to a junction where the road to Borovlje / Ferlach branches off slightly to the right and downwards. The road continues to descend and quickly leads us to the aforementioned place, where we soon cross the railway line. Just after the railway line, we join another road, which we follow to the right, and we follow it towards Sele / Zell - Pfarre. Higher up, the road leads us through a short, picturesque gorge, and then we soon reach a sharp left turn at the Ridovc homestead, where we see yellow mountain direction signs and a bus stop. Park somewhere nearby in a suitable place along the road.

Path description:
From the Ridovc bus stop, continue along the asphalt road (right along the macadam road for 15 minutes, a longer route through the Huda Jama valley), which you leave after a few metres and continue right towards a nearby residential house, which you pass on your left. After the house the road turns into cart track, which you then follow for some time as you climb along the Mrzle potok. At a higher altitude, join the forest nature trail and follow it to the right, first crossing the stream and then, after a short climb, leaving it as the signs lead you left onto a relatively steep path. Climb up the slope quite steeply for a while, and then the path and slope lay down. There is a short walk along cart track, then cross the road leading from Sele towards Koča pod Košuto.
There is a steep climb of a few minutes, then we return to the road, and we follow it out of the forest to Mrzli log.
From here you can either continue to the right along the marked path that continues along the valley floor, or along the parallel dirt road. Wherever you continue, after about 15 minutes of further walking you will reach the Cottage pod Košuto.
From the hut, continue left into the forest, where the path quickly leads to a marked crossroads. From the crossroads continue left (right Ridovc / Ridovcsäge, Maleejska mountain pasture / Malealm, Pesšinca saddle / Pischenzasattel. . . ) in the direction of Cjajnik and Koschutnikturm / Koschutnikturm along the path which ascends transversely to the left. After a few minutes, you reach the next crossroads, where you continue straight on in the direction Koschutnikturm (Cjajnik on the right).
Further on, the trail begins to climb a little more and, with occasional views of the walls of the Košuta, leads us to the saddle Mejnik / Mejniksattel, where, right after the Koschutnikturm markers, a straight, slightly downward trail leads towards the village of Trkelj / Terkel. The path then climbs through the forest for some time and then leads to the scree slopes below Košuta. After a short crossing to the east, we reach the signposts where our path branches off to the right and climbs slightly steeper on the scree. The left-hand path continues to cross the slopes to the east. At this point I would like to point out that the path leading to Koschutnikturm from the north-east is closed. After climbing over the scree, enter the climbing part of the route. From here on you will need a helmet, and it is highly recommended that you use a self-belaying helmet. The path climbs steeply up the right side of the ravine and leads above a notch. The path is well protected at all times by a steel cable and there are a few staples to help us. Above the stubble our path turns right upwards, and to the left (northwards) there is a suspension bridge over the stubble over which we can cross to the other side of the stubble. Our route therefore does not cross the bridge, but climbs steeply along the staircase with the help of some staples to the south. On the left we can already see the precipitous north face of Koschutnikturm, followed by a short climb along the scree to the main ridge of Košuta. Here we reach the less steep southern slopes of Košuta. Bear left towards Koschutnikturm and after a few metres the western path from Mountain pasture joins the lower Dolga njiva on the right. Continue along the south side of the ridge and, following the path which becomes slightly steeper, you will soon reach the summit.
