Center Vintgar - Lookout point at Ančnikovo gradišče (via Bistriški vintgar)

Access to the starting point:
From Ljubljana, take the motorway towards Maribor. Exit the motorway at exit Slovenska Bistrica South.
Head towards the centre of Slovenska Bistrica; go straight at the first roundabout and right at the second roundabout. Go straight ahead at the first traffic light.
In the centre, at the second traffic light, turn left towards Zgornja Bistrica. Pass the health centre. You will come to a roundabout,
go straight ahead. At the next roundabout turn right. There is also a signpost for Bistriški vintgar. Take the priority road.
You will come to the Vintgar Centre, where there is a marked parking lot for visitors to Bistriški Vintgar. Park here.


From Maribor take the motorway in the direction of Ljubljana. Leave the motorway at exit Slovenska Bistrica north.
Drive into the centre of Slovenska Bistrica. In the centre, go straight ahead at the first traffic light and turn right at the second traffic light towards Zgornja Bistrica.
Pass the health centre. You will come to a roundabout where you go straight ahead. At the next roundabout turn right.
There is also a signpost for Bistriški vintgar. Take the priority road. You will come to the Vintgar Centre building, where there is a marked parking area for visitors to Bistriški Vintgar.

Path description:
From the parking lot in Zgornja Bistrica by the Vintgar Centre, go straight along the asphalted road. Keep on the road to the right. After 1 km walk
you will come to an unpaved parking lot and the "entrance" to the Bistrica Vintgar. From here, continue through the forest. We start to climb a little. Soon you will see the Bistrica stream on your left. After a while, we go slightly down the path.
You will come to a bridge, which you cross. From here on we have the Bistrica stream on our right. Here we walk more on the flat. There is a slight ascent where the path continues above the stream. There is a crossroads where you turn right downhill. The path leads past the Rimski quarry, the stream is again on the right next to us. From here on the path becomes narrower. We are still climbing gently.
We come to the turn-off for the Šum waterfall (to the right), we go up to the left. In some parts we go slightly down the path. Followed by a crossroads.
The right path leads over the bridge towards Močnik and Trem Kralji. We take the left path, which is a steep climb up. To reach this crossroads, follow the marked path the whole way. From here on, the path is not marked, it is marked.
At the top of the climb, you will reach a crossroads, turn left towards Ančnikův gradiště (Ančnik's Castle). Go straight up slowly.
Re-visit the crossroads where the path to Ančnikovo gradišče leads off to the left and the path to the Lookout Platform to the right. Take the path to the right. After a short walk up a little, you reach the Lookout Platform, where you are rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley.
