Bošana (Sv. Marija) - Sv. Vid (otok Pag) (approach on north side)

Access to the starting point:
From Pag, drive in the direction of Bošana (not along the main road to Novalja, but along the local road leading into the bay below the long rocky ridge, at the top of which St. Vid is situated). Drive for about 10 km past a number of more or less apartment houses and through the small landscape park Dubrava-Hanzine, where the interesting evergreen oak Quercus ilex grows, to the end of the village of St. Marija (St. Marija). There are hiking signs for Sv. Vid and a small roadside refuge, but there is no major parking area. About 500 m further along the road, where there is a nice viewpoint over the coast and the sea, there is more space for cars.

Path description:
First of all, a warning, the approach on this trail is on average "difficult", according to our comparative descriptions of trails from Slovenian mountains it is sometimes "very difficult" and not to be underestimated, also footwear for scree and rock should be properly mountaineering, walking sticks and helmet are also very useful, especially if there is a large crowd of people on the trail. The rock and ridges here are quite crumbly and if anyone is tempted to do some climbing along the way, they should just take this into account with the relative difficulty of such a side climb.
Except at the start of the route, where there are some sheep net fences set up over the road across the grazing grasses, the route to the top is well marked and it is almost impossible to miss the route.
From the road, head a little to the right and then after about 100 m to the left through a narrow lane oak forest to the first rocks, where you will reach a large scree slope to the right of them.
Over the scree uphill, the path then leads left to the first low rock spine descending from the summit, then cross it a little to the right and up again diagonally to the left along a narrow rock hollow. All the more difficult and dangerous places to slip are pre-marked with a triangle and an exclamation mark. For hikers: nice and attentive, but for real mountain lovers there are almost too many signs, but they come in handy on the descent. The upper part, just below the summit, is a bit difficult in places and sometimes you have to use your hands.
The comfortable and spacious stone-lined summit of St. Vid is reached by a marked path to the left of the remains of the old church, overlooking the town of Pag and its salt pans. At the top there is a box with a registration book, a mountain stamp, a Croatian flagpole and a stone pedestal with the altitude of 349 m inscribed on it.

It will take us about 40 minutes to reach the summit, but if we walk with a camera, it will certainly take longer, because especially in the afternoon or evening the views and colours, down to the sea and the bay of Paski and further to Velebit, are really wonderful, and one can't stop walking.
Ps: if you park your car above the coastal lookout (stone circle) behind the village and start your journey from there, there are sloping paths leading to the central scree, which are not marked, but are visible and also a bit trodden.
