Access to the starting point:
From the coastal expressway, take the main road from Koper towards Izola and then the main road to Portorož. After the pine tree grove, where 110 pine trees (Pinus pinea) grow, turn right at the roundabout towards Strunjan. Drive through Strunjan to a large pay parking area near the beach.
Path description:
The route described officially starts at the Strunjan Centre of the Strunjan Landscape Park at the Strunjan salt pans, but below is the route with the end and start at the Strunjan parking lot, as the salt pans cannot be reached by car.
From the parking lot, continue to the right towards Hotel Svoboda, and at the crossroads follow the European walking route markings. After the hotel, leave the asphalt and continue slightly left on the path, which gradually turns into a forest. The path continues over the top edge of the Strunjan cliff, occasionally opening up to a beautiful view of the sea and the coast. There are a few minutes of steeper climbing, then the path levels out and within a few minutes of further walking we reach Strunjanski križ, which offers a fine view.
From the cross, continue straight ahead, following the path that leads over the cliff, which occasionally opens up to a fine view of the sea and the Bay of the Moon. A little further on, you reach an asphalt road, which climbs a little, then the asphalt ends and you reach teaching board No 10, where the path first changes to cart track, and a little higher up, to a path. Then you cross a strip of forest and reach a meadow with a view that stretches all the way to the Alps.
A little further on, we reach an asphalt road, and we continue straight on (left Jagodje), leaving the European footpath.
There are no longer any European footpath markings along the way, but we follow the signs of the educational trail at the crossroads. We then walk along a narrow asphalt road, which initially continues without any major descents, but when it starts to descend more visibly, we reach a beautiful viewpoint at signpost 13. A little lower we reach Strunjan, and we descend to a wider asphalt road, which we cross carefully and then continue to the right, where we continue walking on the pavement. From the pavement, we soon turn left onto a path that continues along Stjuža, and a little further along Strunjan Saltworks, where we reach the salt houses, where the centre of the Strunjan Landscape Park is located.
After the houses, turn right and cross the bridge over the canal that connects Stjuža to the sea. After a few minutes of walking along the coast, you will reach the parking lot where you started the circular route. The description is as of June 2019 and the images are from June 2018 and June 2019.
